Converted Hyper V Virtual Server only runs at 100Mb/s not 1Gb/s

Hi all,

I've recently converted a customer's old physical Windows 2012 Server to a Virtual Server (Hyper V) using Acronis Cyber Cloud. The Host Server is a brand new Dell running Windows 2019 Server. The recovery process was very simple and just worked.

The problem I have is that  speed of the NIC in the new Virtual Server is limited to 100Mb/s. It is converted as a Generation 1 Virtual Machine (there was no option to change this during the recovery process).

I have 2 other Virtual machines that are Generation 2 and both run at 1Gb/s. The Host Server has two internal NICs. One is reserved just for the Host Server and the other is configured as the Virtual Switch. They are both Gigabit NICs.

The main switch on site is also Gigabit.

I have also been to site and installed a USB3-to-Ethernet (Gigabit) adapter and set this as another Virtual Switch on the Host. I've assigned this as the NIC to the Windows 2012 Server and it's still only running at 100Mb/s.

Is there anything I've missed in getting this to run at Gigabit speeds?

Thanks.

Wrong network interface in the VM, did you install the Hyper-V Integration tools ? (or reinstall them!)
Hi ,

While moving a VM from one host to another you need to check the configuration of Host and check for the suitable host with increase in RAM for VM which is being added to that Host .There should be enough RAM available in the host to add to that VM.If the configuration of Host does not match with VM then move it to suitable host .

I have actually seen this before and been unable to resolve it (though it was for a small 2-person company running Essentials 2012, so they said not to bother fixing; they only use word/excel and small image files).  And in that client's case, it was not legacy adapter related.
Try adding another NIC to the VM and see whether it reports a higher throughput of the connection.

Which OS is this VM running?

Thanks it does come up as a legacy adapter which explains why it's running at 100Mb. I'll try your suggestion Philip.
