Alternatives to G-Suite Free Edition for Email

I got a notice that my free version of "G Suite legacy free edition"  I use to host my email domain is being discontinued. The option to move to their paid version is more expensive than the other options I have found so far. My users just have basic email and calendar use and no apps tied to this.

Besides the paid G-Suite options, I also looked at Microsoft (I'm most familiar with that) and Rackspace seems to offer a cheaper option for hosting email at just $2.99/user/month, but I'm not sure if I'm going to lose any features.

Any other suggestions?

Hi,

I would make a list of features you needs then use the trial to test.
Some point that is important: the interface / userfriendly, backup, support and security.
I always check reviews, I usually only use wellknown solutions.
Do this for each solutions and then after that will be easy to decide.

Thanks for that, but I can't be moving my email around using a trial.
Reviews are great and I will read up, but I'd like to hear some word of mouth recommendations from my fellow Experts as well.

Hi,
You can use a new domain for the tests, I always have a domain just for my tests.

I use O365 at the moment and I like it and it has many apps like teams and office suit and this is easy to set.
It has 50G space
You can compare options and price

Thanks, I'm familiar with that one which is kind of a motivator to go with MS. However, rather than pay their higher prices for features that I don't need. That's why I was hoping others might share what they do for email hosting.

Hi,
Contact your hosting provider and domain provider to see what they offer.
They usually offer cheap email hosting and most of them provide web interface to get online access.
Usually the cheapest is the email hosting that come with the web hosting.

All companies are moving to M365. GSuite cannot match M365. I have more than 150 clients moving to M365. Feature wise M365 is way ahead from any other cloud product. MS rules the cloud market due to office product and no other company can compete with office. Just go with E3 full suite. For data migration use Quest tools.

If you need just email and calendar, then I think the cheapest Ms option is Exchange Online Plan 1. But you are probably already familiar with it.
I have a couple of customers in a similar situation, so I was hoping I will get some useful hints here.
On the other hand I'm a little bit allergic on POP3/IMAP clients. I find they have technical problems more often and having a paid support to solve them can get costly. Webmail interface is so-so. Decision depends also on mail volume and how often and how are the costumers using mail.
There are some free mail providers for custom domains (zoho,Yandex,...) but I'm not familiar with them.

Within Internet message handling services (MHS), a message transfer agent or mail transfer agent (MTA) or mail relay is software that transfers electronic mail messages from one computer to another using a client–server application architecture. A MTA implements both the client (sending) and server (receiving) portions of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). The terms mail server, mail exchanger, and MX host may also refer to a computer performing the MTA function. The Domain Name System (DNS) associates a mail server to a domain with mail exchanger (MX) resource records containing the domain name of a host providing MTA services.
