Can't Secure Facebook Account

My Facebook account has been hacked and I can't secure my account. When attempting to, I'm asked to provide a new password. I do, but I'm constantly told that my old password isn't correct and I can't proceed.. A new password was provided recently, so I know it's correct. What can I do to secure the account?

Thanks, Scott--but I'm able to access my account. As I said, I've tried to secure the account, which process takes me up to the point at which I'm supposed to provide a new password, but can't because I'm told the old password is invalid. It seems like the hackers have somehow "fixed" things so the account can't be secured. Any other thoughts? Anyone else? Has anyone had experience with third-party hack fixers?
You can only access your account because whoever took over your account did not click the option to log out of all sessions. Had that been done, you would not have access to your account. Because you don't have access to your password, you really don't have access to your account.  Try logging out, then logging back in again....

I know this is frustrating. Everybody keeps asking that there must be another way. Since your account is free, and so are the millions and millions of others, the only feasible option is something automated.

Those first two links are your options to try and regain your account.
PS  Do not try logging out, that was rhetorical, you will not be able to log back in.
Thanks, Scott. Would it work to delete my account and open a new one with the same information. That is, as myself?
You will not be able to perform any administrative task (such as deleting or changing password) on your account if you do not have the current password. (as performing those functions will require the password be re-entered)
If the the person who took your account changed your password the only reason you have any access to the account is because they didn't disconnect current logged in users as Scott indicated so any function that requires more than basic login security will not work for you.
Normally when something like this happens you will need to contact FB support and prove your identity then they will reset the password and your email address (if it was changed also) for you so that you can get your account back.
I have been logged out of my account. What can I do? I've tried creating a different account and it hasn't worked. Thanks.
You will not be able to delete your account because you don't have the password.

Try the recovery options first.
I've tried the recovery options. I've tried opening a new account with my old name and a fictitious one. As for the latter, I've successed, but can't add new friends. Any options?

I've created a new, second account. I have access to the old one on my work computer, in Windows. I see that the hacker's email address has been substituted for mine. What's best to do? Delete my original account? Is this possible, considering that none of my passwords for this account seem to work. Thanks.
Again, because you don't have access to the password, you can't delete the 'old' account.  If the recovery options are not working for you, then all you can do is start up your new account. Invite all of your friends and let them know it is you and to block the hacked account.  On your new account, make sure to turn on two factor authentication so this does not happen again.
Because you are still able to post on the hacked account, once you get your new account, let people know that the account is hacked and to go to your new account. [MAKING SURE YOU HAVE TWO FACTOR ON]

I am sorry this happened to you!  Good luck with this.
Thinks so much, Scott--and Robert--for your help.
Scott, one more question, if I may: I now have my old account, which I can use, but which is no longer "mine," and a new account under a fictitious name. In that account, I see the option to switch to another account--and listed are two other accounts. One is the old account and the other--I have no idea. My point is, the old account(s) seem to be linked to the new one.

This seems to me a recipe for Facebook investigation--and at the moment, my new account has a temporary restriction on it (I can't join a group). What is the worse case scenario? That FB shuts down all accounts--and if so, how might I regain FB access? Open yet another fictitious account? The thing is, putting together my new account--populating it with old friends--has sort of taken the stuffing out of me, and I'm not sure I could do it again. But this is another matter.

Thanks so much for any help.
There is AI going on under the hood that can link things. I have some fictitious accounts on FB too and when I log in as those accounts you can see linkage.

If you have already exhausted the options above to regain your account, just go through all the settings and keep trying to update things and see if one of those will not ask you for a password you don't know https://www.facebook.com/settings/?tab=profile and hopefully one of those settings will help you regain access
