Azure File shares question

Hi Experts,

Do I need to setup an Azure VM to configure Azure File shares for my cloud users?

My understanding is , that if all your data resides in the cloud and all users are cloud users and authenticating against Azure AD, Azure file shares can be implemented by two ways, one for the traditional way with an on-prem file server and Azure file shares, and the other one that is the way I need is with serverless Azure file shares technologies

Can you please clarify this for me?

As per https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/services/storage/files/

Take advantage of fully managed file shares in the cloud that are accessible via the industry-standard SMB and NFS protocols. Azure file shares can be mounted concurrently by cloud or on-premises deployments of Windows, Linux and macOS. Azure file shares can also be cached on Windows Servers with Azure File Sync for fast access near where the data is being used.

Dude, a copy paste of a MS url that I already had does not clarify my question.

Can someone please provide some thoughts?

Do you need to setup a VM for clients to access files in Azure Files? No you do not.
Might you want to setup a VM for clients to access files in Azure Files? It depends.

What do you mean by a "cloud user"? you might mean just an account in AzureAD, or you might mean a user on a VM in Azure, or you might mean something else...

A cloud account means an account that authenticates against Azure AD, so no VM is required when data is hosted in Azure and user account is in Azure AD, correct?
