2010/16 hybrid with exchange online and autodiscover

hello, we running hybrid with onprem 2010 and 2016 and are slowly getting rid of our 2010 environment. I need some pointers/advice about what i believe is an autodiscover issue.

When a user in Exchange online has access to a user mailbox stil on prem they can only access it if its sitting on the exchange 2010 server, if its moved to 2016 they get an error. I done some intial research which suggests it an issue with the public autodiscover records. Currently our exchange 2016 server is the one setup with the hybrid connectors so there is already connectivity between 2016 and exchange online.

Any suggestions or assistance will help. im fairly experienced with exchange just havnt had to sort this kind of problem before belive it or not

Agree with Shreedar.
If your autodiscover points to the higher version that will proxy with the other Exchange servers.

You can test our environment and see what suggestions Microsoft makes by using their online "Test Connectivity Tool". It will test both M365 and Exchange. It may help you narrow down where you need to make changes in your environment to address this issue. It may be as others mentioned, where you need to redirect your autodiscover. There could also be other issues.

thanks for the feedback both exchange 2010 and 2016 are pointing at https://mail.mydomainname.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml  is it as simple of changing the mail internal and external DNS record to go to 2016 as its currently pointing at 2010 ?
