I would like an efficient way of summing monthly totals.

Would it be possible to add another column and place the month in it (can be calculated from column A with the Month() function easy enough). Or is there no chance to change the data?

Great.

Once you add the month you could of course add a pivot table based on it as well, but the result would look the same. see attached (new sheet)...
