If users are synchronized from Active Directory with ADConnect, emails must be modified there (in AD).
If Exchange attributes are synchronized from AD (that has or had an Exchange organization), the hide in GAL must also be defined in AD (Attribute name : msExchHideFromAddressLists with value True).

Is this a Hybrid enviroment? If you are using Azure AD Connect, you should modify the msExchHideFromAddressLists attribute on your internal Active Directory. This then synchronizes with Azure AD and removes it from your GAL. In Azure AD, you can only hide objects that were created within Azure AD, and are not synchronized with an on-premise Active Directory infrastructure

Its not and that is the issue. I just started at my new job. Last time they had an exchange server was in 2016. So we need to get exchange 2016 setup files so I can update my schema. Then I will be able to fix this issue
