Where to put TEMP and UNDO tablespace/datafiles for an Oracle database?

We're running Oracle Standard Edition 2 18c on a Windows Server 2016. The datafiles are stored in a attached SAN. Due to some recent events it came to my mind, if we might move the TEMP and maybe UNDO datafiles from the SAN to the server itself?!

Actually I'd like to hear your POVs and experiences and maybe best practices, if possible. Thanks in advance!

I suppose a lot depends on the problem you are trying to fix?

On our 4-Node RAC clusters and few stand-alone databases, we have everything on the corporate SAN.  The servers themselves were individual blades and really had no attached disk storage.

They work fine for us.

It's more a general question on where to put TEMP (and maybe UNDO) files. On our production server, we have some space directly attached to the server (-> local drives), so I thought, it would be "nice" to move those temporary files from SAN to local storage. Or maybe having 2/3 of TEMP and UNDO on local drives and 1/3 on SAN?!

It's a quite fast SAN (SSD compound, as far as I know), so yeah, it would be marginal... But considering the space consumption, I think it would be "better" to have some more space for "real data" on the SAN and move a larger part of TEMP and UNDO to local disks....
This is the best money I have ever spent. I cannot not tell you how many times these folks have saved my bacon. I learn so much from the contributors.

I would HOPE whomever spec'd out the SAN did so with quite a few years of growth in mind and that a few TEMP/UNDO tablespaces wouldn't dent available space.
