how do I have emails only in a folder in gmail and not in the inbox

In using gmail.com, is it possible to create a label and have the emails only show up in that folder, and not also in my inbox?

That's what I do with the mails from experts exchange. I have labels for them & rules that move them to the respective label on arrival. They are then no longer in the "Inbox".

But GMAIL also has an "All Mail" folder, & they don't move out of that one.

So is there a way to remove the "all mail" folder from the inbox?  It's so annoying, I can't believe people don't complain about this issue.  So there's no work around, unless I stop using gmail?

I get a lot of emails from a few senders, and I just want them to go to a folder, and I'll view them when I have time, I don't want them to be in my inbox view. So there's no way to resolve this?
No. The All Mail Folder is an essential part. But you can ignore it if you want.

Open a Web-Browser, logon to your Gmail account, & then in settings you can create labels & rules which move mails to those labels. You should find all the necessary details there.

As long as you have setup your E-Mail Client for iMAP, & set it up to use all your folders, you'll also see the labels & mails in that Client.

Besides that, if you are using an Android device, you probably need a Gmail account, as it syncs data between your Android device & Gmail, & you need it to access the Play Store so you can install apps, get updates etc.

I have an iPhone, are used Chuck, it’s an awesome powerful iPhone client to delete large amount of emails, and I also use the built-in mail app and Outlook on my desktop, and they all still display all those emails in the inbox instead of that respective folder. I have set up the labels, all those emails are still in the inbox and not in those folders.
I don't use iCrapps or Outlook clients, but rather Thunderbird on my Windoze & Linux PC's, & there it works just great. On Android I use the standard GMail client it has, & that also works great.

I do have the "All Mail" folder, but I ignore that. I only look at the labels I have setup, or the normal inbox. The All Mail Folder I use only to show me the number of unread mails, that is useful. But I don't read them there, but rather in the Folders I have setup in GMail.

gmail uses tags. tagging an email does not move it to a different folder. it rather adds a tag to the in place email.

to be consistent with previous folder based implementations, gmail has a move command that removes the email from the inbox at the same time it applies a tag.

for some reason, gmail does not display inbox as a tag. the way to remove the inbox tag is to archieve the mail. this does not remove the email from the all mail folder nor remove any other tag.

this may seem circomvoluted but it is indeed a great technology. understanding it allows to make reasonable assumptions to get the job done.

i totally second excuding the all mail folder from sync. very few clients will decently cope with 100k or more email in a single folder even if you have lots of ram. if needed, claws copes almost decently, seamonkey or whatever name bares it successor would be your best bet. tbird behaves rather decently if you remove indexing.

I only have about 5K or so in that folder, so it's not super huge.
I understand it's not folders and it's just tags, but by selecting the archive feature, and tagging the email, it's doing what I want, making it seem like it's in a "folder", tagged, it removed it from my inbox view it shows up only when I click on the tag, so it's exactly how I want it, so it's good.
