Removable Storage Folder Appearing on Desktop

I would like to know about this mystery folder that I have been seeing few times and then it vanishes on it's own. There is a folder that is called " Removable Storage" that I see it appearing on my desktop and by the time I refresh my Desktop it disappears. I would like to know what is this folder ? and why is it appearing and disappearing randomly on my desktop? Please help shed some light on this strange folder.

Thank you,

I've never heard of this, but located this page which sounds like describing your issue:

What Is the Removable Storage Devices Folder?

If so, this command is the cure:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Hi Joe,
Let me take a look at the suggested links you posted here and I will let you know of my findings.

Can you think of any possible pattern as to when the folder appears on your desktop and when it started appearing? Were there any recent changes to your system prior to when the issue started occurring?

By any chance, do you happen to have removable storage connected to the PC when this happens?

Hi Gerwin,

No it just happens randomly. I am not quiet sure what is causing it . I am going to follow the instructions in the articles posted here and hopefully I won't have to see it coming back again. I only can think of thing that is after I was emptying the recycle bin and also emptying my temp files I saw it appearing momentarily and then it was gone after I right click on the desktop then refresh.

Thank you,

Hi Kenfcamp,

"By any chance, do you happen to have removable storage connected to the PC when this happens?"

Yes I do. I have an external HDD, and CD Rom in the optical drive.

It's possible the folder is somehow related, but it's more than likely a bug of some sorts.

I have ran a search and found that this isn't a "new" phenomenon with reports starting around 2017

Computer data storage, often called storage or memory, is a technology consisting of computer components and recording media used to retain digital data. In addition to local storage devices like CD and DVD readers, hard drives and flash drives, solid state drives can hold enormous amounts of data in a very small device. Cloud services and other new forms of remote storage also add to the capacity of devices and their ability to access more data without building additional data storage into a device.
