How do i import updates into my Wsus 2016 Server without using IE ?

Since Microsoft deprecated IE and TLS 1.0, I can no longer import updates into WSUS

I have used three different browsers on my WSUS machine; Edge Chromium, FireFox, and Brave. None of these can activate the Active X control that must be run to enable  the Microsoft Catalogue website to download the updates to my WSUS server.

I have followed all the suggestions in these links: including the registry hacks:
https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-server-for-it-pro/issue-cannot-import-updates-to-wsus-due-to-erroneous-redirection/m-p/3053457
https://borncity.com/win/2021/11/03/how-to-oob-updates-im-wsus-ohne-ie-mit-edge-importieren/ .  Here is a synopsis of the steps I have tried to use:

  • Open WSUS MMC and right click Updates from the tree > Import Updates
  • Copy the Link from the Edge address bar
  • Open Microsoft Edge Options > Default Browser
  • Add the link to the IE mode list (HERE IS THE MAIN PROBLEM.  THERE IS NO SUCH SETTING IN MY EDGE CHROMIUM. THAT PROBLEM RENDERS THE NEXT STEPS IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPLETE)
  • Change "Allow sites to be reloaded to "Allow". (Hint: The "Default" setting)
  • Go back to your update catalog tab, Install the ActiveX if you have not done on this box already (check if you have not setup restriction to execute or install ActiveX already.
  • Thanks in advance!
