How safe is it to delete a vSphere VM snapshot?
There are several VMware virtual machines in my environment with snapshots that are several weeks old.
These are for virtual Windows servers.
I have been instructed to delete these snapshots but I'm wondering if it is safe to do so.
Is there any chance that deleting these snapshots might damage the current virtual machines or cause other problems?
Or is it safe to delete vSphere VM snapshots?

The problem is that these virtual machines aren't currently being backed up and we don't plan to back them up at this time since we don't have enough backup storage capacity currently available.
However, I have been instructed to create snapshots on several Windows virtual machines before important changes are made so that these machines can be reverted to their previous state in case these important changes produce undesired results.
