2012 Buck Lacrosse message: ENGINE POWER REDUCED

I have a 2012 Buck Lacrosse E-ASSIST (the one with the battery in the trunk) and a week ago I received the message on the dash that said ENGINE POWER REDUCED. The car did not have any real power to speed up much but I was able to drive it just fine to go home. The next day the car was fine and has been for a week. Why did this happen and do I need to get it looked at ASAP even though the issue has not returned?

Do you have an OBDII code reader or access to one? That's where I'd start. There should be additional codes in the on board diagnostics computer's logs I would think.

I would agree with Philip about scanning for codes.  Readers run about $20-25 US from Amazon.  I'm a fan of the ones that do Bluetooth (if you have an Android phone or tablet).

You should be able to get Auto Zone or some other auto parts store to read it for free, though having your own scanner should prove useful in the long run.  I'd trust AZ or others to give me the scan code reliably.  I'd not trust them to tell me what it means or how I should fix it.
