can't start car with key

I have a spare key for my 2012 buick lacrosse but I found that it has snapped off. See images. I went down to the car and used a plyers to hold the key and try to turn it on. This did not work. Then, when I tried the good key that I have been using it took 3 tries before it started.  Odd thing is when I turned off the car and went back to the snapped off key it started right up. When I turned it off I could not get it to start with the snapped key and then it was about 3 times again to start it with the good key. I guess my question is, why does this snapped key not work? Is there something going on electronically with the fob that it is connected to and why do you think it screws up the starting of the car with the good key.

Does your year/model have a security system like GM's VATS?   If so, your snapped key may have damaged the internal chip or whatever hocus pocus GM puts in there to keep respectable people from starting their own cars when they fat finger the keys.

The good news there is a way to bypass VATS.  Just google it.
