How can I fix the Alert message ""Alert! TPM device is not detected"?
Hello. I have a Dell Optiplex 7050. I started getting this Alert message at start up. "Alert! TPM device is not detected". So I went into the security section of the bios and I didn't see it listed anywhere. Then I went to the Dell site and downloaded the latest bios update. I'm assuming I don't even have a TPM chip in this computer because I don't see it listed in any of the hardware settings. I also don't use Bitlocker, so I don't think I even have a use for the chip. What can I do to fix this Alert?
Uhmmm, weird alert. On plain vanilla Windows 10 or 11 installs, it SHOULDn't pop up. That's the same as a speedometer on your bike alerting you your 50cc motor is missing.
Find the offending "smart" alert app and disable it fully, or configure it to disable TPM alerts.

Hello @☠ MASQ ☠ . Thanks for the advise. It looks like it came with the chip. Doesn't this mean that it has the chip? 329-BBJL : Trusted Platform Module (Discr ete TPM Enabled) . But when I go into the security section of the BIOS it isn't listed.

Hello @Kimputer . I went into the security section of the Bios to disable it, because that is the only place I know of to go to in order to disable it. But it isn't listed there.

Hello @McKnife. Wouldn't the Intel PTT also be in the security section of the bios?
This is Dell's support for this
Note there is no point trying to use the TPM firmware option if it's not visible in the BIOS setup to begin with. It's a kind of "chicken and egg" thing.
Additionally I've found that Dell Opti's like an admin password set in the BIOS before acknowledging the presence of TPM 2.0

Thanks everyone for your help. It looks to me like the chip is bad. I'm going to try a hard reset as fred hakim suggested. If that doesn't work I'm just going to decommission the computer.

☠ MASQ ☠?, Kimputer, McKnife and fred hakim were extremely helpful in helping me fix my TPM problem. They sent me all the resources I needed to fix the problem, and gave me lots of helpful things to do. This is the best Tech site I have visited. I hope lots more people start to use it. The people here try their absolute best to help me with any question I may have.
Does that mean the hard reset took care of the problem?

Thanks. We have had this issue 2 or 3 times here and I saw once myself. It would be good to have a confirmed answer. The remaining question is to pin down the cause. In 1 case I know there was a bios update that preceded the issue.

Hello @fred hakim. I think the hard reset did the trick. I just finished doing that and when I went into the bios after the hard reset, in the "Security" section, there is now a section called "TPM 2.0 Security". In that section I was able to turn off the TMP option.
Use your Service Tag code to look up the Opti on Dell's support page. That will definitely tell you what hardware was onboard when it left the factory.
