Restoring Notebooks in OneNote

I migrated a user to a different profile in Windows 10 and now they don't have their notebooks in OneNote.  Where would these notebooks be located and how do I restore them from the old profile?

ASKER

Looks like a good article but it didn't work for me.  I found the files in a backup folder, but the backup OneNote folder does not have the .onetoc2  file

So basically .onetoc is the file type that I'm searching for?  Where does it default to when it typically saves?

Mine are in OneDrive>Documents  They are all shortcuts that redirect back to https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=abc123

In the OneDrive app, click on the three dots at the top right and go to Settings > Accounts and make sure the app is logged in to the correct Microsoft account.  You can check the users OneDrive too and see if the shortcuts are there, click on one and you will probably be forced to log into that user account.

I noticed that you can sync the notebooks to the cloud directly in onenote.  Did you ever try doing that?  Its under the File tab.

I have a few M365 accounts and the main one I use is my personal M365 account and the File tab is on the Web App and that option is not there for either my personal M365 or one of the business M365 accounts I manage. ?

Looks like this on mine
