SBS2011 - unable to access Exchange 2010 management - unknown user

I have the task of migrating a SBS2011 containing exchange 2010 to Office365. However I am no longer able to log into neither the Exchange Management Console nor the Exchange Management Shell. When I try to log in I get the following error: "Initialization Error - Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : Logon failure: unknown username or bad password"

I am logged in as a domain administrator. I tried IISRESET, restarting the Server, with no luck. I also tried dozens of possible solutions on the web but nothing worked. Apart from not being manageable Exchange works as expected, Outlook Web Access is accessible, no related error messages in the event logs.

Have you tried after removing the username from credential manager ?

If not please try that.

Hello Anton,

you are connected on the SBS server itself ? Verify that you are using the administrator of the domain, and not a local administrator (on a member server/workstation).
In AD management, you can also verify that your account is member of the group "Exchange Organization Administrators".

ASKER

Hello Thierry, thanks for your assistance! The user is both a Domain-Admin and a member of the "Organization Administration" Microsoft Exchange Security Group.
You can also try to use/define another Exchange admin account.
Verify that this (or your actual) account has a mailbox connected to the Exchange server (and not migrated to O365).
You could also try to install a remote Exchange admin console.
