Trouble sharing printer on WiFi Network.

I have 2 desktop PCs and 2 laptops, all with MS Win 10 Ent 32bit.

PCs have wifi cards.

I HP laserjet printer connected to PC # 1 via USB.

I Telstra WiFi Modem (using 4G Mobile), up to 10 devices.

Printer is setup on PC #1 as a Shared printer.

Having trouble connecting PC # 2 and 2 laptops to the printer.

Each PC and Laptop have the same logins (A, B & C), A being the Administrator.

PC # 1 has no issues printing from either User login.

PC # 2 only prints when  Administrator is logged in to it (not when other two users are logged in)

The 2 laptops can't seem to be able to even see the shared printer on PC # 1.

Network on all devices are set as private and visible.

Any advice appreciated.

>> Having trouble connecting PC # 2 and 2 laptops to the printer.

Can you elaborate on what you are experiencing? Did you install the printer driver on each of the devices you want to print from? What error messsage(s) do you get and can you post them?

Most printers these days have a LAN port or WLAN card built in, along with a Print-Server. Doesn't your printer have that? It would be a lot simpler to use that & connect the printer directly to the router rather than via a USB cable to a PC. Then you can connect to the printer directly via it's IP Address without having to go through the other PC, which would also need to be always powered on. Even if your printer doesn't have WLAN or Ethernet, I would get an external Print Server you can connect to the printer.

Are the users domain users by any chance?

If so, the user that wants to install the printer driver will need to be a local administrator.  Once the driver is installed, they do not need to be local administrator anymore and can be promptly removed.  Alternatively, you could turn UAC on notify so it will prompt for credentials when the administrative permissions are required.

Sounds like the printer nightmare issue

In year 2021 after the install of KB5005010, some companies have resorted to making changes to their device's registry to enable printing, which could compromise their security.  However, this solution was only temporary until the printer vendors could release updated drivers.

The key that can be modified to remove the restriction is to modify the key RestrictDriverInstallationToAdministrators to have a value of 0 instead of 1 (default).

It is important to note that if this does resolve your issue, then you are making your device vulnerable to CVE-2021-34527 and CVE-2021-34481.
