Proper VMWare Snapshot
I took a snapshot of a server when in the ESXi host.
My opts were for memory. The other option was not available since tools were not installed.
Is the memory snapshot ok for updating a program on the server? Or should I be taking a more advanced snapshot with tools installed?

Seems like a simple question, but really bad consequences if done wrong. So great to have clarification.
np just be careful do not forget you are on a snapshot and delete after 48 hours!

Thank you for the tip. I have a lot of updates to do on several servers.

I wonder if it is even beneficial to remove a snapshot of memory after 48 hours.
You should not leave a VM running on a snapshot the snapshot grows filling storage space, also performance is poor when you are certain the VM is performing correctly after whatever you have changed remove and delete the snapshot
No the Snapshot is to capture the contents of the memory not changes to the disk! Eg if you want to revert to a powered on VM with the same contents in memory
But did it create a disk snapshot delta ?
Check the disk properties?
Please note VMware Tools is NOT optional and should be installed on all Guests
If the purpose of using a snapshot is to rollback a VM after applying patches you need the other options
