Hello experts,
One of the VM in our 2-node Hyper-V cluster is currently experiencing some problems.
We are encountering issues with the VMs on one of the nodes as they appear to be in a locked state.
It looks to me like the Veeam backup was trying to take some backups and was failing, but some check point file where created.
I found an article in Veeam forums which looks similar to the issue we are facing.
But trying to apply the workaround mentioned in the article did not help us.
https://forums.veeam.com/microsoft-hyper-v-f25/solved-server-2019-hyper-v-new-checkpoint-stuck-issue-t61656.html
Additionally, one of the servers hosting production applications is currently down. We've attempted to examine the state of the "vmms.exe" service, and it is in the process of stopping but is not successfully stopping, nor can we start it.
We tried taskkill command and wmic process delete command etc nothing works and give us some access denied error.
also tried giving permissions to everyone full controll to the folders where VHDs are stored.
none of these helped.
any help is highly appreciated.

You can try to pick up the VM's GUID and kill the VMMS process associated with that GUID.
Is the Checkpoint stuck at 9%?
thank u for the help
it looked like stuck at 6%
also i tried to kill process using pid
it was not working
do u think we need to try using guid of machine.
i couldn't see windows process with vm guid in the task manager
Is this the method you used to try and kill the service?

This method is also not working.
and main issue is that vmms (hyper-v management service is not responding.)
than the VM not responding. There are other VMS in the node, we are not able to migrate them because vmms is stuck
Yeah, but i was worried about other VMs running on the host and with the snapshots being in pieces, if they dont consolidate properly, whether the VM will have corruption etc.
We have raised MS support case, but they are not even responding after ticket is created.
Even we called support center and escalated the case.
do you know any escalation email ids by which we can bring the support engineers to to takeup the case !!

Virtualization is the act of creating a virtual (rather than actual) version of something, including (but not limited to) a virtual computer hardware platform, operating system (OS), storage device, or computer network resources. Virtualization is usually the creation of a system that executes separate from the underlying hardware resources, or the creation of an entire desktop for systems located elsewhere, similar to thin clients.
