Microsoft Exchange Group Emails

When I send an email to an email distribution group, I end up with two copies in my Outlook.

One is the SENT version [in my Sent Items] because I am the author, and the second copy is a RECEIVED version [in my Inbox] as I am also a member of this group.

I don't remember if this was always the case or did Microsoft update/change this process?

This is a default behaviour in Exchange. Option you are looking is available in Lotus notes where it doesn't send duplicate copy.
