Strange problems with Win10 PC
At the customer's office Friday the lights quickly flickered on and off six times. She did not have a working UPS. Now when she turns on her almost new Win10PC it sits on the Lenovo screen for two hours and finally boots up. Any idea what could cause this? That has happened twice now.
Once booted up, almost everything looks normal so far, but I'm starting to see a few worrisome things, such as:
1) If I go to Windows Explorer and right click and go to New > Folder, it never gives me a chance to name it, but instead just 'goes away' and then a minute or two later I see a folder named New Folder.
2) If I try to rename the New Folder it ignores my entry.
3) If I try to delete the folder it just stays there on the screen in Windows Explorer. But then if I try to delete it again it says "Could not find this item...this is no longer located in C:\"
But if I exit Windows Explorer and go back in, I see that my renames and deletes DID happen after all. It's as if Windows Explorer is not refreshing after I makes changes or deletions.
Any ideas what is going on and how to fix it? And also about that two hour reboot time? TIA
saslic what was the solution?

1) Windows was indeed corrupted, and while I was not able to resolve it with sfc and other suggestions above, fortunately i was able to get to the boot option to restore a restore point and that seemed to fully repair Windows.
2) They had an external USB drive connected that apparently got trashed by the surges. That's why it would hang for 1.5 hours before booting. After I did the restore and reconnected all their USB drives, it started hanging again upon reboot--until I unplugged that external drive. Later I tried to reformat it or even see it on the disk management utility, but even that utility hung up since the drive had somehow gotten so messed up. So the drive will be recycled, and hopefully I will remember this lesson next time.

RE: "If you can't resolve quickly, probably quicker to reload the system"...they don't yet have an image backup system set up, so here are we talking about Reset my PC > Keep my files? Or is there a way to "reload the system" that would fix any Windows problems without having to reinstall apps?
Re: sfc /scannow does it automatically know where to find any needed files in order to repair problems? If not, what kind questions might it ask me, and what kind of media or info would I need to supply?
