Event 'Brother BrLog' Event ID 1001 every second. Windows 10

Problem Summary

I am plagued with this particular Win 10 ERROR Event occurring every second.  Windows 10 desktop PC connected via WiFi to a Brother laser printer MFC-L3720CDW.  If I power off and unplug the laser printer, the ERROR Events continue.

History

The printer was installed about 8 months ago.  To the best of my knowledge, the laser printer functions as it should.  Prior to the laser printer, I had a different Brother printer installed, which was an inkjet.  Don't know if the old inkjet has something to do with this issue.  Don't know if these events were occurring with the old (inkjet) printer. It is very likely that when I upgraded from the old inkjet printer to the new laser printer that I did NOT do a complete uninstall of all Brother software and drivers before removing the old inkjet printer from the PC.

I don't know when these events started because they are ‘quiet’ and not noticed unless you look in the Windows event log.  Since they are occurring every 1 second, the Application event log rapidly fills up.

Failed Attempts to Fix

I have done many online searches, trying to find a solution to the problem.  I have found other reports of this type of problem involving the same Event ID.  However none of the suggested solutions has worked.  As a result, I have tried the following actions:

  • upgrade Brother SW, FW and drivers to latest versions
  • completely uninstall Brother software and drivers, then re-install
  • disabled all Brother related items from Windows startup
  • ran Win Troubleshooter for printers - no trouble found

uninstall anything brother related and see if it clears up. there should be something in task scheduler, services or startup items that start this item.

Use the Revo Uninstaller to completely remove anything to do with the Printer Driver. This tool is the best way to remove everything along with any Registry settings etc.:

Then download & install the newest drivers for your Printer from the brother Website. After that check whether the printer gets shared. Turn any sharing off, that is not required for a printer that gets accessed from the network anyway.

Does it happen also in safe mode?

any other errors in event viewer? or in device manager?

Thank you all for providing rapid assistance.

I had spent days trying to stop this issue, and it was getting to be extremely aggravating.

The suggestion to delete the registry key BrUtilities solved the issue.  I don't know what new issues that could cause if I ever need to use Brother Utilities.

But that change definitely stopped the ERROR events.

Unfortunately, Brother Utilities is a sub-set of the Brother software component iPrint&Scan.

I could not find a way to get the printer to print and scan without iPrint&Scan, therefore there was no way I could find to simply not install Brother Utilities.

That's the Brother recommended fix.  You might try repairing the Driver to get your scan functions restored, if it puts the components back that were creating the error then at least you know how to fix it.

There are other suggestions involving disabling the Windows WIA service which might be a workaround that applies in your situation but again no such thing as a free lunch.  Ideally I guess Brother should provide a better fix.

Just started dealing with this myself after installing the Brother Printer Drivers from EasySetup on 01/08/2025. Solution was to use BrUtilities to uninstall all, then to re-download the current driver (Y21E_C1_ULWT_PP-usa-inst-E1.EXE, Updated 01/10/2025) and re-run the install. After doing this, the repeating (once-per-second) errors ceased!

Software is any set of instructions that directs a computer to perform specific tasks or operations. Computer software consists of programs, libraries and related non-executable data (such as documentation). Computer software is non-tangible, contrasted with computer hardware, which is the physical component of computers. Software written in a machine language is known as "machine code". However, in practice, software is usually written in high-level programming languages than machine language. High-level languages are translated into machine language using a compiler or interpreter or a combination of the two.
