I got BSOD in Win10. I installed WinDbg. Opened up the dump file, and got some info, and clicked some links that added more text. Closed WinDbg and reopened it. But this time no text appeared. Hit X on WinDbg and got Fatal error:
Ran WinDbg again, and still no text appeared. Hit X to close and did not get the above Fatal Error.

I haven't used Windbg for years. But leew used to have a link on his Website to which you were able to upload the minidumps for analysis. That link doesn't work anymore, but you might be able to contact him, he may be able to help. I'm also not sure whether Windbg works with modern OS's, I used to use it with XP & W7…
And what exactly is the issue now?
Didn't you get the desired info, and want to repeat the procedure to analyze the dump file, but can't do so?
Because when you start WinDbg, you do not get any text until you choose something.

First time user of WinDbg.
>> Didn't you get the desired info
Initial text had a link which I read that i was supposed to click on. More info came up with more links. I started clicking just to get an idea of seeing if anything useful that I could understand showed up. Didn't understand anything. Thought I'd start over and get proper procedures so i exited and came back in, and then had to write the OP.
What remains is the minidump file.
just post the dmp file here; we'll check it
Investigating into a BSOD makes sense only if you get repeated crashes, or want to know how to analyze BSODs.
If you really want to do it yourself, you'll have to open the dump via menu, then you should see “familiar” text. You can post the result of the analyze link as proposed by the text, or as suggested the dump for us.

Struggled to post dmp file. Bad stuff started after installing WinDbg and getting that Fatal Error.
I am uninstalling WinDbg?
- Git bash now types only BBBB's (and a few other strange chars if I really try hard).
- Can only close Git Bash window using Task Manager on MSys2 terminal.
- Read that this is not just a git bash issue, but also cmd windows. So opened cmd window. I get flickering "Enter char to copy up to:" message in a box.
- Opened powershell, and typing appeared to work. I typed “cmd” and got the flickers again.
- keyboard start key does not bring up start menu. But I get it with mouse on start icon.
- While Visual Studio Community 2022 was doing nothing (and the solution was closed), while doing all these observations, a popup with some kind of error appeared. I lost the popup.
- In File Explorer, left clicking a file causes the filename to look like a Rename operation. If I double-click the dmp file, msg says “you don't have permission to open this file”. I figured out how to restart File Explorer as Admin. (Still got that msg. Copied file to downloads, and double-clicked, and here it is.
After all these problems, and the possibility as MASQ suggested that i could have malware, I may just start with a clean install of Win11 and add the few apps that I need.
8. Also, noticed that entering a URL in address bar often results in a blank screen until I touch the address bar with the mouse.
I do have one automatic restore point (6/17/2025) Type System. Maybe reverting that will help.
I also uninstalled git bash as well as WinDbg, and will reboot for good measure.

Rebooted. Did not install WinDbg or Git Bash yet.
3. cmd windows still has the flickering box with
5. After rebooting, start key worked.
6. Visual Studio 2022 popped up, and the error popup: “Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been return from a call to a COM component”
7. Clicking on file still looks like rename mode. Double clicking opens the file.
I see that clicking on the dmp file opens Visual Studio 2022.
Spoke to soon.
5. . After rebooting, start key worked. But after screensaver came back on and logged in again, start key did not have any effect.
And finally, Visual Studio 2022 did not temporarily accept typing. Then it did for a couple minutes until I tried to scroll down. Then it moved back up to top. I tried Ctrl/End to force it to bottom, and then it flickered and was unworkable.
I think system is hosed. Do you think I should goto restore point (6/17/2025)?

Thanks for analyzing the dmp file.
Not sure what I should do re: ntkrnlmp.exe and WIN8_DRIVER_FAULT.
Search csrss.exe:
Found csrss.exe in C:\Windows\System32 (expected).
Found three in three folders starting with C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-csrss_
Found two in LCU\Package_for_RollupFix…
Any idea how to fix this unusable PC?
Is this a scam site? It says csrss.exe is a dangerous trojan and must be removed.

The correct file is a system file in \Windows\System32, so the site is correct. But that should be emphasized on the site …

@rindi,
I see that article is for Windows 10. In other post, I have your article for clean Win11 install. Do you recommend clean win10 first, and then a Win11 upgrade (since the PC will be fairly clean after I install some apps)?
Thanks,
Paul
Thanks all. I'll start a clean win10 install.
