QuickBooks error in Windows 10 Virtual Desktops

Hi,

I have a client with a Microsoft Windows Server 2016 that users log in remotely to use QuickBooks in a Virtual Desktop. These Virtual Desktops emulate Windows 10

The problem is that when the clients log in to their Virtual Desktop and start QuickBooks, they are presented with a QuickBooks warning: Unsupported Windows 10 OS detected…. [The user has to type] Yes.

I know this is a relatively new issue since the EOL of Windows 10, but are there any suggestions to stop this message from appearing?

All of our clients have been hit with this stupidity.

Until a workaround is found, or Intuit reverses it, unfortunately users will need to run the process.

I've not seen anything yet on the workaround or removal front.

Yep, no workaround just now, somewhat bizarrely they are just detecting if your OS isn't Win 11, all other operating systems trigger the pop-up, (even Mac OS or Windows LTSC!)

Just to join the chorus; have got the same problem.   Didn't start looking for a solution yet.

Short sighted on Intuit's part given that Microsoft does have the extended servicing program for Windows 10, which as a result, will be around for a few more years at least,  especially for mom & pop businesses.   They won't replace something until they have to.

Jim.

Well, this is not unexpected but kind of what I had expected.

Perhaps QuickBooks will get their act together and issue a patch to deal with this.

I'm of the mind that Process Explorer and Process Monitor would provide us with the insight as to where the initial version scan is happening. I highly suspect it is registry based so all it would take is a registry change to whatever Windows 11 has to make it go away.

Agreed, but I'm guessing that QB is going to use HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion as a low-effort shorthand rather than having it's own Key and value.  Changing the OS identifier in the Registry is likely to cause all manner of issues with all the other calls that rely on that being accurate!

Hopefully they'll get enough noise that they'll add an option to suppress within their own code.

IMO I wouldn't count on it.
I'm sure the response will be Upgrade to 11, or move to QB Cloud

<<or move to QB Cloud>>

+1 on that.   Everyone's answer to everything these days.  Sigh :(

All of our accounting firm clients absolutely despise the online product. It's horrible they say. It won't customize the like the desktop version does.

I wonder about Intuit getting compromised. I think it's only a matter of time given how all the big companies are falling lately.

I've tested several "self hosted" alternatives, some came close to being a viable replacement for us but in the end they all fell short.

The biggest issue is most are developed with EU accounting / reporting practices in mind.
While they can be made to technically "work", they don't really work with US Sales Tax needs too well.

I just installed QuickBooks on a Windows 11 computer and it said, …No longer supported if installed on a Windows 10 computer… - those guys can't even program an object to check what OS QuickBooks is getting installed on.

Personally, I avoid cloud environments like they were Liver and Tuna sandwiches

@kenfcamp I actually like both when made by my wife. :0)

That being said, yes, same here and our clients are all on-premises with the exception of one but that was because leadership bought into the marketing.
