I just got a great help from Tom in a PowerBI question and wanted to ask if PowerBI have some sort of templates that by setting up the data accordingly I can use said template? or PowerBI is just create & execute not re-use designs?

Hello. I have imported data into Power BI. The data consists of a server name, count, and time. The time is broken down into approximately five minute intervals with seconds being included in the time format.

I would like to report on the total per five minute interval for all servers and not just for each individual server. Below is what the data looks like and the desired out. I have tried group by in multiple ways but cannot get it to work properly. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I am using Power BI Report Server with Power BI Desktop (September 2019). I have imported in a CSV file and I am having problem adjusting the output the way I need.  The data consists of a server name, date, and a count. I have also created a new column that sets a location using a SWITCH measure based on the server name.

The CSV  contains results in five minute intervals for over a week for each server. My problem is getting the table to just display the latest reports. Below is an example of my table. Is there a way to just show the latest five minute interval by location, server, and count?

Hi,
I have created a tabular model in visual studio [Enterprise 2017 version 15.9.04]
I have deployed it to my analytics server.

I want my college [Enterprise 2017 version 15.09.14] to be able to work on the model also, so they have copied over the complete solutions folder onto their own drive and they opened the file and can see the model and the tables - however when they look at the grid [on design view] it says 'does not support preview' and they can not see the data against the tables.

we have tried to rebuild the model on their machine, and refresh, all connections to the source are working. we then tested and imported a new table into their model, when they do this they can see the data for this table. but still nothing for the other tables.

What could we do to help this? If we want to build tabular models in the future, can we not build them on our desktops and deploy them and share the solutions with others to work on, do they have to be on the servers workspace (desktop).

We googled a few suggested solutions: we checked the configuration properties for the solution was tagged so when it was built it would build everything.
We also tried deleting the bin and obj file closing VS and reopening and and rebuilding everything. Can anyone please help?

We are using CRM application which uses MYSQL database. we have customized the CRM application for our core process therefore the CRM modules marketing, sales and contacts and opportunities are not made use instead we have completely customized, the solution is deployed on premises.
Challenges: to build/develop certain reports which are very much essential for daily operations and monthly reports and analytics. At present we are taking csv dump from crm and preparing it manually by applying formulas,  this is time consuming and resource dependent and as reports are not ready made available therefore end users to depend on the technical resource to export the reports and bring it to the required format and then provided to the end users. We also require analytics from the CRM data.
We are planning to implement SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and integrate with Power BI for analytics the data source will be CRM application either integrated OR excel as input to the SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or Power BI.
Please suggest will this approach work for us.

My client has Google Analysts for 2 primary domains, and I have a custom carts in other sub domains.

How do I go about and send purchase info to Google Analytics? Do I need to setup the Product IDs within Google? And, is this even possible considering I'm using sub domains.

The intention is to keep the existing code.

Hello all, I have been asked to re-brand and create a brand new website for a company that is currently unhappy with their site and the lack of traffic it brings.  Here is the situation, they want a new hosting company to host their new site, using the same domain, using Wordpress.  I understand how to create the new site using Wordpress and implementing Google Analytics, but I have never migrated a site from one host to another host.  Also, their existing site was not created with Wordpress CMS.  So my real question becomes, how would I migrate their website from the existing host to Bluehost Wordpress CMS?  Or is it possible to leave the old site on the old host and create the new one on Bluehost Wordpress and then effectively cut over from one host to the new host?  I would assume you know what I am asking now and I apologize for my lack of knowledge and experience with this situation.  Thank you very much!  Please let me know if you need more information from me.

We are likely to get the power BI implementation project for this we have to hire the resources,  the customer will provide various data sources and we have to implement for this  what resources should we have to hire.
 I am not sure power BI developers alone can handle this hence I am thinking that we may require technical architect who can map the requirement to the power BI technology platform and prepares the functional specs and  tech specs document so that Power BI developers can use this document and develop. Please suggest is my understanding is correct and if found incorrect please help met to identify the right resource is it Project Manager/Solution architect/Technical architect who can fit this role and what experience they should be having. Please suggest.

Hello:

Below is a screenshot of a very simple Dashboard that I created in Power BI Desktop.  When I uploaded this to powerbi.com, I created a bar chart afterward.

When I pinned that bar chart to the Dashboard, I could not move it onto page 1.  Instead, to see the added bar chart, I have to scroll down.  This is shown in the second attached screenshot.

Anyway, not being able to drag the chart onto page 1 does not make for a very nice looking presentation.

In Power BI Desktop, how do I shrink the size of page 1 so that I can add charts, graphs, KPIs, or whatever I want later in powerbi.com?

There are 2 questions

1) data analytics addin shows active under file - options - Addis’s but doesn’t show up in toolbar under data in excel

I unchecked and checked add in but still doesn’t show

We have active directory group policy applied but don’t know what to disable or enable under excel 2016 when going to edit the policy

Any suggestions if I need to check trust center settings or protected view settings to be edited

2) my ceo is trying to open excel file and from excel trying to send as an attachment when he does this step it attaches in outlook

But then god knows why before sending he wants to open again and the problem starts ex el file doesn’t open

Vice versa if he opens outlook first and then attaches 3xcel file it opens right away

We are looking for on premise application for warehouse management the application should have capability to develop work-flows and ability to trigger automatic email alert , we are not into mass production we mainly receive the items, unpack and see if documents are missing and if so escalate to the concerned to have good reporting engine and analytics. Hi:

I really hate that someone has made it very difficult to create or edit a SQL Reporting Services (SSRS) Report.  In the old days, when I worked with SSRS everyday, I simply used the Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS).

Now, you cannot find anything like BIDS in the newer versions of SSRS.  I hate Report Builder and refuse to use it.

Last week, I followed instructions found online and installed Visual Studio Tools.  And, I asked the IT department to reboot the SQL box late at night.  This was all in an effort to find the latest equivalent of BIDS.

But, I cannot find this.

What in the world do I use and how do I find it?

Please help!  I can't believe that this tool has been buried, in the newer version of SSRS.

Hi all,

After creating a CAFE list within Excel, we are assigning an excel "named range" in order to reference the "Cognos" list in VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP functions etc.
From what we can see, the named range gets lost (disappears) after pressing the "Refresh all data" button.

Is it the expected behavior? Is there a workaround? This does not happen when using Cognos for MS Office but the functionality there is different too (no exploration module). Obviously, without being able to use formulas like VLOOKUP functions in combination with Excel Ranges (which are dynamic and not static), the power of the module is very much limited.
In Cognos for MS Office, we can refer to the "identifier" of the Cognos list inserted in the report in order to create functions in Excel, and it does not get lost when refreshing.

Any help welcome …

We are evaluating right fit product for our business processes and we found Microsoft Dynamics NAV (which is going to be business central) is right fit. We cannot keep our data in cloud and understood Dynamics NAV has on premise deployment option. Now the challenge it has become essential to have advanced analytics reporting and dashboards for which Power BI is one of the  option,  understood power BI has on premise deployment option think we have to go for Power BI Reporting server and at this moment I am not clear about licensing the advanced analytics requirement is for 15 users only.
 If we go for on premise power BI deployment, will the installed power BI application on each of the end user systems OR power BI reporting server which is behind my firewall will it send our data which is residing in on premise server to external/internet server for processing and showing up analytics/dashboards, Our requirement is code and data to be processed and rendered within the applications behind my firewall. we cannot allow our data outside our network. Please suggest.
Also if Microsoft power BI cannot work without connecting to their servers then please suggest any BI software which can suit my requirement. Thanks in advance, this is most critical decision that we have to take, please suggest.

Hi All,

I have a report that have been created a long time ago in Cognos 8, then migrated to Cognos 10, then now in Cognos 11.
It is working perfectly fine in Cognos 10, and the validation of this report gives only a warning "XQE-WRN-0018 The dimensionInfo in V5 query has been deprecated. The query will be planned regardless of dimensionInfo.". Warning I've never been able to solve, and that is not blocking for Cognos 10.

Now in Cognos 11. when trying to validate, the only message I get is "RSV-VAL-0010 Failed to load the report specification. XQE-PLN-0001 Internal error. The query could not be planned by the Query Service: java.lang.NullPointerException ".
I have checked all queries: they are all working when using "view tabular data". No errors, some data are displayed, etc...

Does anybody know how to solve this?
Any help, advice, etc.. will be appreciated...
