I have a serious issue on one old terminal server (2003).

I have recurring virus, coinminer it seems, which I don't know how it passes into the computer. It is quite isolated environment.

It creates either gfxdrv.exe or gxdrv.exe in windows\temp and coin mines.

Did anyone encountered this problem? I don't know how to get dir of it.

I have a client who had a scareware event with a threatening dialog that offered a number to call to "help him".  I disinfected, as I normally do, with Adwcleaner, Malwarebytes, and Hitmanpro64, which usually does a nice job eradicating the beasts.  Another has appeared that seems familiar, and so I'm concerned that I might have missed something   The dialog, which my client sent me, and I didn't myself experience, is attached.

My question is how can I find the source of that dialog, or others of that ilk, and know that I've removed it, or not, using the above system or another.

Your insights are appreciated.

DO Microsoft offer any tools to check the configuration of windows defender AV against best practices?

also if you use windows defender in a corporate environment, what tools are used for oversight of AV status across your devices like you get with other commercial AV products? with defender, does a central server push out the updates, or is it more common they download directly from the Internet?

can defender be amended / disabled by standard users or only local admin rights.

How can I temporarily disable Windows Defender within Server 2016?

I don't want to uninstall or permanently disable Windows Defender.

I simply want to temporarily disable it and then I'll enable it again once I'm done.

How can this be done?

We have Trend Micro in our network. After looking at  sever audit failure logs on windows domain server, we ran scan and couldnt find anything.

After running scan by malwarebytes we found several issues and cleaned up. This appears to have helped with malwarebytes.

Can we do away with Trendmicro and just have malwarebytes or do we need both malwarebytes and trendmicro?

i work in a school that is famous for getting viruses especially the shortcut virus. i recently got a virus that was actually deleting files from people flash drive and even trying to run cmd to see if it was just hidden have proven to be futile

we have plenty computers that do not have internet access so i was wondering is it possible to like have a flash drive that has antivirus installed in it which you can plug in and get rid of viruses without having to worry about anything happening to your flash drive?

Any way to do this ?

My question is about Virus, Malware and Phishing protection.

When I receive an Anti-Phishing alert from Bitdefender with computer name, ip, threat threat type (in this case anti-phishing), url, action (in this case anti-phishing blocked), the timestamp for last blocked url and number of attempts...WHAT should I do?

The alert is telling me that it detetected some phishing activity on a particular site and blocked it.  Right?  Is that it?  Does any/everyone need to be notified?  I know reposes my be varied and opinionated, I'd just like to get a general consensus or industry standard/best practices.

Thanks

A Windows Server 2016 OS will only successfully restart or shut down when installing Windows updates.

This is an Active Directory domain controller that is running at the Server 2016 domain level.

This server was infected with malware and viruses.

I was able to clean the malware and viruses using Symantec Antivirus, Malwarebytes, and the SFC and DISM commands. Now there are no longer any traces of malware or viruses but the server continues to hang while shutting down or restarting.

When shutting down or restarting the server will go through all of the proper shutdown steps and will then stay stuck at either the "Shutting down" or "Restarting" portion of the process and stays stuck until we hold down the power button on the server or until the power supply is powered off.

There have been too many changes to the server and Active Directory since the virus infections to justify using a past backup to restore the server so we would like to fix this issue so that the server will successfully shut down and restart.

What can be done to do this issue so we can successfully shut down and restart the server?

lookat bugtraq   and look for "Defense in depth the microsoft way" a now 52 part series.
... of microsoft not following their own advise. (With a side step of 30 something installer failures).

I need a service to monitor incoming emails to prevent viruses and spam from getting to my clients.

I Install my product using SageKey which produces an executable install file.  It is often rejected as potentially harmful.  Would a digital certificate prevent this?

Digital certificates are expensive so I don't want to waste money.

If you have any experience, please share it.

Thanks in advance.

Malware removal and tools.  For several years Malwarebytes, gmer, autoruns, TDSSKiller, process explorer, and HJT were my go to tools for malware removal.  As of recently, it seems like Malwarebytes isn't catching as much as it used to and I was curious what are the top tools and order of progression in using them?

If you were to choose between Malwarebytes Premium plus Windows Defender or BitDefender primium,  which would you go with?
I've been  putting Malwarebytes Premium on my client's computers, running Win10 and Win7.  Malwarebytes seems to use quite a bit of system resources.
It advertises that it works as an anti-virus too but I also enable Windows Defender, or run the free Avast with it on Win7 systems.
Any opinions?
Thanks,
Alan

Hello
Can anyone explain how the Coinminer trojan infects a machine?  Our web server keeps getting re-infected.
We have AVG File Server edition and CCleaner running on it, plus Malwarebytes(free version only at this stage).
AVG and Malwarebytes keep picking up the infection and remove it, but within a day it's back.
thanks
