All of Apple's hardware is produced solely by Apple Inc., who determines internal systems, designs, and prices. Apple buys certain components wholesale from third-party manufacturers. The current Mac product family uses Intel x86-64 processors. All Mac models ship with at least 1 GB RAM as standard. Current Mac computers use ATI Radeon or nVidia GeForce graphics cards and include a dual-function DVD and CD burner, called the SuperDrive. Current Apple hardware includes the iPad, iPhone, iMac, Mac Pro, Macbook, iPod and Apple TV. Discontinued hardware includes the Apple I, Apple II, and the Apple III, the Lisa, the Newton, the Quadra, Performa, Centris, Macintosh II and LC series, the Power Macintosh, iBooks and the MacBook.

What's the best way to update Mac mini "Core 2 Duo" 2.4 (Mid-2010) from 10.6.8 to either El Capitan or Sierra or at least something newer than 10.6.8. We do not mind doing fresh install. We have other El Capitan Mac which we could use to create an installation image. Can we just install El Capitan and will it automatically activate and not ask for licence serial number? Will drivers still be available?

Tom

Can anyone recommend a Performance Test Benchmark software for Apple Mac's running OS X?

I'd like to measure the Disk/Ram/Disk-Swapping/etc on my current Mac against any scale/benchmark, so that I can go to the Apple store and purchase a new Apple Mac that is at least as fast as my current Mac, or compare the Performance of my other Macs again one another.

Where are my videos hiding on my iPhone 7?

I am using a few teleprompter apps and start the recording okay, but I can not find where the video is being placed for either app. I look in the Camera app since that is where I see videos when created with the Camera app, but I am sure they are elsewhere...

Any ides where I can find them?

Thanks

I have 8GB RAM memory on a Mac.  How can I tell if upgrading to 16GB RAM would help? In terms of, for example, how often does an appl need more than 8GB and start disk-swapping, slowing me down a bit? What type of applications are happier with 16GB RAM?
(I have 3 Macs, one with 4GM RAM, 1 with 8GB RAM, and one with 16GB RAM. When I look at Activity Monitor, they all seem to use less than what is installed of course)

Mac user.
User had an old, no longer supported Promise RAID5 that had a drive stop working.
I inserted a replacement, but after 3 days the RAID didn't rebuild.
I pulled the new drive, but even though I was able to see the folders, no files could be accessed.
I called Promise.
Because the RAID was an older model, Promise had no Promise software was able to run on any Mac to do diagnostics.  They told me to find a backup, attach the drive to a Windows Machine, and only use it with Windows.

This is a disappointment.  I had a backup on BackBlaze, but it takes days to recover 2 TB

I need to choose between:
  • Finding an old Mac that will run the old Promise software, reformatting the Pegasus RAID 5, and assuming that the error was a one-show
  • Buying a new Pegasus 2  Thunderbolt - connected unit
  • Buying a CRU RAID one, and connecting it with a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 connector, or else USB 3

User has a collection of Videos that they want to keep on a RAID.
They do not add videos very often, and may do some simple editing from time to time.

I realize that the RAID 1 would allow them to pull a drive out for safe keeping, and then rebuild the mirror.
I am wondering if CRU unit with USB 3 connected directly to a 3 year old iMac would have the throughput necessary to play Quicktime MOV files

Thanks.

Hello I’m using a minidisplay to DVI converter on a retina 2013. Works fine inside OS x or Windows with bootcamp. The problem is the monitor stopped working and I will give my computer malfunction like it is to another person, but when I press Command + R to make the proper data deletion and re-installation to factory, the signal is not passed to the monitor and of course the monitor of the retina not work and I can’t operate. How can I make to pass the signal to the monitor with the mini display to DVI in restoration menu with Command + R

Thank you

Hello, I've been trying to install Windows 10 on an early 2011 Macbook Pro. It's not officially supported, but I  read everywhere it can be done. There are some troubles though.

I have successfully installed it alongside MacOS High Sierra actually, and everything works except for audio.

I found out audio doesn't work because Uefi Windows 10 installation somehow keeps a Cirrus audio-related device from working.

So I tried to install Windows 10 in Legacy/Bios mode. I chose "Windows" instead of "Uefi Boot" at boot.

But just before the point where Windows usually asks which disk to install on, it actually asks for a missing driver. I tried feeding it Intel xHCI drivers with usb keys, it sees the keys but says it doesn't find any driver.

So I was wondering, is this behaviour due to the fact the disk is partitioned in Uefi mode? So is it impossible to install Windows 10 in Bios mode in such a setup, or am I instead missing something?

Thanks for your help.

Working with a MacBook Pro and an iPhone.

Importing videos using Image Capture
It takes a VERY LONG time for movies to import.

Is there another program that can quickly import movies from the iPhone to the MacBook?
Are there any settings to adjust?

Thanks.

2 recently installed HomePods continue to play music (from separate sources) when all computers, iDevices have been shutdown, or so I believe. All devices on LAN are Apple  - Macs/iPhone/iPad. Music seems to be from my local Apple sources - which may be iTunes? Power cycling HomePods no help. Both HomePods controlled from local iPhone 8S/iOS 11.4.

Ah sweet mysteries - whence forth cometh the music?

In Google Chrome Settings we enabled "Show bookmarks bar".

After setting up the bookmarks as we wanted, after a while we noticed what we modified has been returned as before (like we have not modify out Bookmarks Bar).

We have iCloud and it always synced ok, but for some reason the Bookmarks after a while, all reset to its prior stated.

Note,
We have Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer.  and in out mobiles, Safari in iPhone/iPads

What is going on and how can we fixed his?

Update:
To see the effect and maybe it could be fixed,
  • We disable iCloud setting to not sync Bookmarks chrome.
  • then we went into the computer and disable iCloud extension.
  • then deleted all bookmarks in chrome.
  • We went to iphone/ipad and restarted both device (didn't touch the safari bookmark, in both device its the same)
  • Went back to iCloud and enable chrome sync
  • Went back to chrome and re-enable icloud extension

By re-enabling & restarting we though chrome would download from iCLoud, but its empty.

Please advice.

How can he RESET an iPhone 7 phone so it can be reissued to a different employee ?

It is OK if he cannot keep the current phone number

MacBook Pro A1502 got extensive water damage.  MacBook won't start/power.
I am not familiar with Apple hardware.  Trying to recover data from HDD.  I understand this is a flash storage drive?
What kind of interface is that and is there a recovery tools similar to IDE or SATA interfaces, where you can connect/dock it via USB and attach to another device.  Or is there another method for Macs?

Please advice.  Thanks~!!

Can I use a Retractable Bluetooth Headset with my iPhone7?

Or should I use my Canon SX720 HS?

I need to make a video of myself but find I need to stand so close since the sound does not pick up so well. So I hope I can use a BT microphone.

Can this connect to my iPhone and use it as the microphone?

I See the instructions to pair the device, but before I chase my tail, can this device be used for the microphone with an iPhone 7 or a Canon SX720 HS?

Thanks

  • Photoshop CC
  • Macbook

Whenever I save my file on Photoshop CC, my artboard turns upside down. I use a Macbook which is hooked up to two other monitors and this seems to happen when I disconnect it from the monitors (when I need to work elsewhere), then reconnect it to the monitors (when I'm back at my desk). I presume it's some resolution issue. The issue happens when my Macbook is reconnected to my two monitors. When I use my Macbook on its own, it doesn't happen.

What fixes it is minimizing and expanding the Photoshop program but the fix is temporary and the next time I save the file, it turns upside down again. A better fix is restarting Photoshop altogether, but the next time I disconnect/reconnect my Macbook to the monitors, it happens again.

Hello, I have a few Mac Book Pro Mid 2012 systems I am trying to determine the end of life date on these systems.  I have installed High Serria on them so I am assuming this will be the last update these systems may take but not 100% sure. How can I find this information so I can determine if I should keep them in rotation or sell them off?

Thanks

I have a CVS file with thousands of lines and columns. I need to focus on column AM named or any column named  "EA-domain_list" in that row, I have several domains that are separated by commas in there.

Is there a way via perl, or some type of script that will feed this spreadsheet named master.csv in and take all the EA-domain_list that are in commas, and make new columns for each domain. Basically for example in summary

you look in the attached spreadsheet and look an AM you see mobi.sark.net, ne.sark.net,sark123.test.com I need what ever is in there to strip each domain into a new column like AS would be called EA-domain_list an in there would have ne.sark.net, the another one row AT would have sark123.test.com. Keep in mind some times there are 20 of  then in there. So then I would like to spit out a new file called adjusted_domain_list.csv

Also, I am sorry I didn't mention previously that I am using a Macbook

Since I've pretty much owned my 2010 MacPro it's had slowdowns when accessing any network functions.  When doing file transfers I can't do anything else otherwise pretty much all the apps freeze and I have to wait for the file transfer to finish.  When I remote control it with ARD, it responds very sluggishly.  File transfers themselves are relatively fast as is browsing the Internet however some local pressure is being put on some internal hardware component when doing network intensive tasks.  Any ideas?  I've gone through a number of operating system and PRAM resets.
