Since I've pretty much owned my 2010 MacPro it's had slowdowns when accessing any network functions.  When doing file transfers I can't do anything else otherwise pretty much all the apps freeze and I have to wait for the file transfer to finish.  When I remote control it with ARD, it responds very sluggishly.  File transfers themselves are relatively fast as is browsing the Internet however some local pressure is being put on some internal hardware component when doing network intensive tasks.  Any ideas?  I've gone through a number of operating system and PRAM resets.

Hi,
I have a client who has his own collection of photos taken on his iPhone and synced with iCloud through his own account. He wanted to share his photo Library with his wife and vice versa . Is this possible even if they have separate IDs ? I don’t think family sharing shared pictures , only purchases etc..
Would be great to know

Thanks

When user does a screenshot, there is a delay before it appears on the desktop, it normally appears once he has deleted something else.
Also, if user drags a file from an email or somewhere else on to the desktop or in to a folder, it again does not appear straight away, but will after some other form of action is taken.

This has been observed on couple of Macs: 10.10.5 and 10.9.5.
We have older Macs that do not have this problem.

Do you have any idea what may be going on there?

Hi - My client is running Windows 10 Home in Parallels on his macbook pro. He's complaining that its sluggish so i am going to switch him to Bootcamp.
The bit i am unsure of is the Windows 10 license. Will it still let me activate in Bootcamp? Presumably the details MS needs to authenticate a license will be the same on Parallels VM running Windows as the newly created Windows 10 install? It's the same mac afterall.
Should i try to extract the license key beforehand if i can?

Thanks

I play movies or youtube videos from my MacBook pro late 2016. I stream them to the Apple TV 3rd generation. Invariably the playback on the TV is jerky. Very irritating. Impossible to watch. For movies, I use VLC. Or for YouTube I use Firefox. Where should I start to troubleshoot this issue? Thanks

Do macOS come with any full disc encryption and option for encrypting inserted USB before they can be written too, similar in fashion to bitlocker and bitlocker to go on later releases of windows OS. If they do can you provide details, and any tips on how you could verify that these encryption controls (FDE and USB) have been applied to all devices in the environment? we need some assurances from a partner for security audit and are aware they run macos.

out of interest are there any major providers of anti virus for macOS or does the OS itself have any inbuilt AV similar to windows defender?

How can certain usernames be hidden from the Mac OS X logon screen window when the login window is displayed as a list of users?

We want to keep the list of users view (and not switch to the "Name and password" option and want to simply be able to hide certain usernames from appearing in this list.

How can this be done?

This needs to be done within a macOS High Sierra version 10.13.4 OS.

Is there a system event viewer for a mac computer.  I have an imac and it alll of a sudden shut off.  Lost power.  Not sure if the cable was loose and this is why or some other reason.  Is there a viewer that would tell me that I lost power?

Hi
I have an iDrive subscription, 2TB, with 2 accounts, mine and my mother.
We both need data backing up. me code en masse, 24/7, she paint en masse 8/7 not to mention diary and ladies/book/painting/prayer/garden clubs.

It looks like that having an account means one repository to backup into.
Whenever I backup my MacBook, it is a single entity, It doesn't do date-specific backups, right? I only get one restore data-set?
My mother will get her own one, also..
So, if we just backup whenever we need to, it should all work out?
She'll insist on doing it every night, FYI
I might do it once a week.
I was keeping my Python code files on iCloud. What are people doing? A mix of the two?

Thanks

I’m trying to update my firmware on the SSD (aftermarket) by crucial, but it just sits at this weird screen.  I tried two different dvds and a usb thumbdrive.  The device is a 2014 mac mini.  The DVD drive is an external apple superdrive.

Hi all, we have a macbook air that we use here solely for backing up 2 ipads and some iphones, however it is running low on space and we dont want to use icloud.

I am thinking to use an external hard drive to store some older backups to free up space.

What do guys recommend?

Is there a way of using an iPhone X GPS map to mark a location I have parked and will be returning to later?

I visit a lot of cities and places I have never been to before where I park quite I ways from the places I visit and will later need to return to when I'm done to get my car.

How can this be done?

I want to record everything happening on my iPhone screen. Kind of like Techsmith Camtasia only I want to record my iPhone 6S iOS 11 screen, not my windows PC.
Which app does this?
I would like the output to be an MP4 file. I want to edit it in Premiere Pro or Camtasia, or some other tool.

Using Migration Assistant returns 'Logout Failed'

Repeat...

Migration Assistant returns 'Logout Failed'

If this does not work, can I use Target Disc Mode? I want to move MS Office 2016 to another Mac Mini - both with High Sierra

I have a Mac OS Sierra machine that is not detecting the mouse or keyboard, but does work with external keyboard and mouse.  The power button works on the laptop, but that seems to be the extent to which it functions.

can macbooks/apple macs be joined to a windows AD domain and used by end users in the same way as a domain joined windows 10 laptop?

Or would there typically be an additional application on the macbook installed to allow connectivity to the domain, e.g. file servers and applications, and the devices not directly added to a companies AD? I'm a tad confused how these devices would be managed, as I don't suspect you can deploy group policies to macs for example to lock down USB ports etc, as you can with windows devices.

Mac mini (late 2014, 8GB RAM) has become agonizingly slow to boot up - 16 minutes returned by macOS 10.13.3. Applications (e.g.Pages, Safari) will not start - system returns 'Application Unresponsive'.

I have at least three backups of full system or needed data (Acronis True Image, Time Machine, iCloud)

How do I determine where problem is - Mac mini HD and what to do next - reformat HD (how?) , reinstall macOS (how?) - or...?

I need to find out how often a user has been rebooting or shutting down her Mac laptop.

How can I query the Mac logs to determine the dates and times when a Mac OS X computer has been rebooted or shut down?

Hi

A brand new 13" MacBook Air has a keyboard problem
The following sets of keys don't work :
789,  uio,   jkl,   ?/

I reset the NVRAM ans SMC but that didn't make the slightest bit of difference

The funny thing is that when I type these keys while at the login screen (for the password field)
dots appear thus proving that the keyboard is actually sending a signal

Any ideas ?

What are the costs of converting back to Windows?

I love my Mac, but have how two bad buying experiences in the past couple weeks. I am now considering NOT spending a bunch of money getting some new PAC and just going back to Windows.

I have an iPhone and use iCloud for data sharing, but even that has had technical troubles, to be honest.  Apple ID has let me down with log in problems, even the Apple Care seems to have trouble getting to work.

Any advice on dumping the whole platform and just saving a lot of money?

I have an iPhone 7, and intend to keep that. But I am not a power user at all.

I really dislike Windows 10, though. At least when it shows me all this flashing junk in all these different windows.

The new MacBook I bought for $2,400, where I would need to spend another $375 for Apple Care, has this problem where the machine hangs on me. As I use Chrome, the whole machine freezes. That is an ugly issue where I would rather return the machine that try and debug it. Also, it's got all these fancy keyboard option, BUT only three hours of battery life. Just like I told the sales rep, those bells and whistles use up all the juice.

So, I am losing faith in the Mac brand. Anyone want to try and restore it?

Or, what brand and model of Windows machine might be interesting to consider as an alternative?

What kinds of file issues might I have? I have all my data on Time Machine backups. I also use Carbonite.

How do I get my 450 GB of files over to…

Brand New MacBook "Hangs" on web browsing

This was supposed to be a fast computer, but while I browse (Chrome) it hangs and the round Google Tab stops, with the whole machine completely unresponsive to any input from the keyboard or mouse. Then , about a minute later, all is forgotten and it works fine.

I got this machine days ago and it's happened at least 15 times over about 25 hours of use.

If I do not find an answer, this machine is going back to the store where I bought it.

It was on discount since the box was opened.

I really do not know what my next move would be.

Attached are the specs...

What processes could be used to identify either unused smartphone or tablet devices which have not communicated or synched with corporate systems and what tools can be used to enforce security controls on such devices.

We have a process for identifying stale laptpps which have no recent login in Ad but want sinilar from smartphones / tablets to ensure they havent been lost or stolen or that when an employee leaves the company they return devices and they are added to the stock room and redistributed as possible.

Also - what security controls do you enforce on mobile devices such as smartphone or tablet and how do you prevent users amending the security controls.
