All of Apple's hardware is produced solely by Apple Inc., who determines internal systems, designs, and prices. Apple buys certain components wholesale from third-party manufacturers. The current Mac product family uses Intel x86-64 processors. All Mac models ship with at least 1 GB RAM as standard. Current Mac computers use ATI Radeon or nVidia GeForce graphics cards and include a dual-function DVD and CD burner, called the SuperDrive. Current Apple hardware includes the iPad, iPhone, iMac, Mac Pro, Macbook, iPod and Apple TV. Discontinued hardware includes the Apple I, Apple II, and the Apple III, the Lisa, the Newton, the Quadra, Performa, Centris, Macintosh II and LC series, the Power Macintosh, iBooks and the MacBook.

We have several Imacs. They were set up when we got them a couple / few years ago so they boot into windows vista.

2 machine have problems now.

1 gets a white screen for about a minute, screen goes black, then an error about no boot drive found.
I read to press and hold option at boot time.  When I do that I get that same white screen and just a black cursor (I did that on an OK machine and see how you see a mac hard drive and windws hard drive.
I tried making a bootable linux usb drive but can't get it to boot off it.  Pressing option, even on the working machine, doesn't list the usb as a bootable option.
I booted off a vista install CD to do a repair install.  It didn't find a windows install.

other machine, boots to white screen then we get a folder in the middle with a question mark.
same boot from windows cd doesn't have it find the hard drive / partition
boot from usb drive doesn't work.
Pressing option gets just the arrow, no hard drives.

2 different situations, but both have hardware failed drive?  I'd love to run a hardware hard drive test app.  Any sure fire way to make a usb bootable drive and what app would you use?

I used unetbootin to make the thumb drive

I have 5 mac clients and a mac server (running latest the version on Mountain Lion) in a remote office from me.  I used to be able to access them all easily over VPN using ARD but over the past year I started having issues with some of the macs (I believe that it was after an OS upgrade).  I am using a SonicWall TZ210 router and the built in L2TP VPN to connect to the remote network.  The VPN seems to work great and I can access all remote network resources.  I also setup a port forward in the router and am able to access my server using ARD and the external IP address (no VPN needed).  The problem I have is when connecting through the VPN, I am only able to see one of the computers and connect to it.  All of the computers are on the same subnet and it is different from my home subnet.  I have tried turning remote management off and back on and even reinstalled ARD and nothing seems to work.  I installed ARD on the local server and all of the computers show up fine.

So to summarize:
1.) ARD works great locally
2.) ARD is only able to see and connect to 1 of my 5 computers over the VPN

I would normally say that this is a VPN issue but one of my computers (not the server with the port forward) is working fine.  And then I would say that it was an ARD client issue but they all work great locally.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Brandon Joiner

In my office, I have a common area setup with a monitor, keyboard, and mouse that I'd like for anyone with a Mac or a PC to be able to connect and use these devices. I would like to know if there is some type of connection hardware or universal docking station that I could have out to make this as seemless as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Have a client that has an iMac that all of a sudden has a white screen.  We have an image of the boot partition on external drive which starts up fine and you can see the screen so the actual screen is fine.  We have restarted the unit several times and you see the apple logo and it appears to even go through the startup.  I can vnc into the machine and you can see the desktop and use it, but the actual screen remains white.  Does anyone know what causes this, I would prefer not to have to wipe it out and reinstall Lion.  (The backup image is too old to use)

Thank

I've seen Samsung Galaxy Note 1 (the 1st version) comes with fine
tipped hard stylus (sort of plastic tip).

However, when I searched in Amazon.com or elsewhere, all the
fine-tipped stylus for capacitive devices comes with piece of pad
at the tip : refer to a few of the links below:
http://www.amazon.com/Adonit-Stylus-iPhone-Kindle-Tablets/dp/B00931K1QK/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1381062041&sr=8-4&keywords=fine+tip+stylus

http://www.amazon.com/Musemee-Notier-V2-Silver-Precision/dp/B00CA67PVO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381062041&sr=8-1&keywords=fine+tip+stylus

I happen to read somewhere that manufacturers faced certain
technical challenges in making fine tipped stylus for capacitive
surfaces but can't recall where I read that.  How then did Note 1
have it?  Isn't Note 1 capacitive?

Is there anywhere I can get those fine-tipped stylus for writing
on iPhone or iPad or capacitive devices?  Pls provide links that
I can buy them.

I'm not used to those with soft rubberized fat tips.

Last nite I used my iPad 3, put it to sleep and went to bed.  This morning it wouldn't wake up.  Put it on the charger, but still didn't come on - no indication that it is charging on either of the Apple chargers I use.  Left it on one then the other for hours.  Also tested the chargers with other devices.  Have cycled the wake/sleep button, to no avail.  This unit has been treated well - no drops or liquids.  Kinda obvious to suspect the battery.  Is there a way to test it? Reset it? Other ideas?

We have a MAC drive - Deskstar - that won't boot - we can hear it spinning, no clicking. We have taken it out of the MAC and tried to boot it in a PC but it doesn't get recognized in the BIOS.

Does MAC do something proprietary with their drives so that even if I took a new MAC drive out of a MAC and plugged it into a PC it wouldn't show up in BIOS?

The drive is about 5 years old.

I have a user who has not backed up her phone and has upgraded to IOS 7 about a week ago.  SHe  also has airwatch as this is company policy.  Suddenly and without warning, all the contacts in the phone have disappeared.  Is there any way to retreive this easily?

I have a Nikon D700 and I am attempting to import photos, shot in RAW, to my MacBook Pro.

I am having a recurring issue where the camera is in the process of importing files to the laptop and then the camera suddenly is disconnected (and no longer detected).

I have attempted importing via Lightroom, Image Capture and iPhoto and the same issue occurs across all three programs. I have also changed my Energy Saver settings so that the computer does not go into power save mode during the import process.

I am attempting to import approximately 1,000 images.

Many thanks in advance

Has anyone come across this and know a fix? It started after upgrading to iOS 6. It just spikes and max's out my networks upload rate, though I have no app that is backing up or uploading anything.

I'm pretty sure reseting the device would fix it, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Any suggestions?

Our school provides iPads to the students. All are imaged identically. A teacher wrote a book and as iBook author made it available to his class. Half the students were able to download it. For the other half, the book did not download immediately so those students continued to tap download. The book never appeared but their iPad's memory filled up.

Since the iBook never appeared, we cannot remove it. How can we clear the memory for these phantom iBooks?

Was given an old Macbook with only a Windows XP OS on it.  Trying to install "Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD-ROM Full Version In Retail Box" I just purchased.  Problem is when I select the disk to boot from at startup it ejects itself.  What am I doing wrong or is this installation impossible?  It successfully reads this DVD & others in the windows environment.

2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo - 1 GB RAM

I've tried resetting PRAM & SMC already with no success.

Thanks in advance.

My wife upgraded her iPad 3 (New iPad) to the new iOS7 that just came out.  Unfortunately she had never backed up her device and was not given the option when she was "forced" (her words) to do the upgrade.

I saw her screen and all that was on it was a picture of the data cable.  I believe the initial upgrade failed and she had to do a factory reset to get her device operational again.

When she was able to use it again, all of her pictures and videos she had made with the iPad were gone.

I tried physically connecting and browsing to the picture folder and nothing is there.

I installed iExplore and am seeing if it can find anything.

She is connecting her iPad to a Windows 7 Professional workstation.

Also nothing was backed up to the cloud either.

Aside from sending this thing to a data recovery shop (not going to do), is there any way to get her pictures back.

One more thing, she reinstalled all of her apps and re-downloaded all of her music so the memory has been heavily accessed.

I have properly set her expectations that everything is most likely gone for good.

However, if one of you Apple gurus can help me bring anything back I will be a hero.

Thanks in advance.

I want to replace the full cellular antenna assembly in my iPhone 3GS. I have located a number of items on ebay but wonder whether they are correct. Can you advise on the correct item? (My problem is with the cellular antenna, not the wi-fi).

Here are three items i found. Do they contain the cellular antenna assembly?

1. New Charge Port Dock Antenna Speaker Mic Assembly for Apple iPhone 3GS

2. Dock Connector Port Charger Flex Cable Ribbon Repair for Apple iPhone 3GS

3. Phone 3GS Complete Dock Connector Assembly Antenna Flex Loudspeaker Port Mic

I am working on a MacBook with Lion 10.7.5 installed. It has an issue where about 9mb/minute are being removed from the available disk space as long as the system is running. I created a new profile and found the problem persists there as well. It is not connected to a network during this process and TimeMachine is not activated. Any ideas of what could be using up this space?

Current Macbook is on flashstorage 128GB.  Is there any way
I can replace it with an SSD but without going thru Apple (as
Apple is quite costly).

I'm looking at installing Sandisk's SSD below:
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-2-5-Inch-Solid-SDSSDHP-256G-G25/dp/B0093HMLAS/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1379779057&sr=8-16&keywords=SSD

Is it supported & how do I 'copy' or 'clone' over the entire contents
of the existing flash disk to the new SSD (so that everything still works)?

I have a client who has an Ipad and her Wifi will not work.  However her 3G through AT&T works fine.  When you go into General Settings on the Ipad and click Wifi you can click the ON button.  However the Wifi will not stay ON it just stays in the OFF posistion.  What would be some options to try to fix her problem?
