I have a Mac that died when its video card failed. There is no way to fix that that I have found yet.

If I buy a new Mac, I know I can access the hard disk from my new Mac. Is there a way to access the CD Drive of the old PC from the new PC also?

Thanks

This is driving me bananas!  Anyone know why an Apple keyboard would all of a sudden no longer be able to copy and paste text using keyboard Cmd+c, and Cmd+p?  I am using OSX El Capitan. Problem appeared about a week ago.

In the old days, they called this a headless PC.

My Mac video card died aND  one option is to use the Mac or my Time Machine drives as a way to access this information.

I assume the external backup drives I can just plug in.

How do I do this with the MacBook as an external drive?

Thanks

I have been using the Windows operating system since the 90s. I have never owned a MAC before. Should I transition from PC to MAC? I don't game on the PC. However, I do use my PC for music creation, video production and audio editing.

Hi, I have a MacBook Air 13-inch Early 20151.6Ghz Intel Core i5, running  OS 10.13.
There was an intermittent problem whereby sound would stop working, but rebooting solved it. Now, rebooting doesn't solve.

Symptoms
In System Preferences > Sound, there are no sound output devices showing up.
At reboot, system doesn't chime before OSX starts up.
Sound volume is greyed out.

What I've tried

Plug in headphones - no effect - no output device, no volume
Check headphone jack for debris, blow out with air duster
Reset PRAM, Reset SMC
Checked for audio booster apps like Boom - there are none

I suspect that the absence of that chime when the machine starts up means that it's a hardware issue.  Has anyone any ideas?

I'm trying to get a text thread (with someone with a droid? their text bubbles are green) off an iphone. Yes, we can do screen captures of each page.  that's tedious and kinda long.

I looked on line and played with ifunbox and a couple other apps / iphone file browsers (phone is NOT jailbroken (is that a thing these days)).

None of those were successful / I didn't even know where to look for the thread.

But one - ibackup viewer has a free and paid version. Using the free version, it had me backup the phone with itunes then it read the backup file and easily let me export the thread as text - cute that it right and left justified the text from each person like it shows on the phone. And each was time stampld..

it also lets you export the conversation as a PDF with colored text bubbles. Very nice!!!.. but the free version says 'demo' all over it. Understandable. Lets you try the product and if you need that feature, you buy the app.

But anyone know of other apps that will do this (pull off conversation as text or even better as PDFs / more graphical). Free or paid.  Just want to know if I was using the free apps wrong or there's more fully featured paid apps before I lay out $$

THANKS!

A colleague indicated that he prefers iPhone over android phone because the iPhone is entirely encrypted and all apps download from the Apple store passes thru rigorous process prior being placed on the store.  On the other hand, android phone are not encrypted and you can download apps from anywhere, besides the store; in other words there is little control as to the google store apps as to security.  Finally all who developed apps for iPhone have to pay an anual fee to Apple where as to android no fee - insinuating at one point that a hacker can create an apps load it to google store and all can download it; thus being able to reach millions with ease.

Is there any accuracy to this persons comment? Please advice.

I am used to typing the first letter or two of a long folder name, then pressing the Tab key. I like tabbing through my options, then pressing Enter when the right one appears.

Can I do this on the Mac terminal?

Thanks

Hello.

The hard drive in this unit was not working properly.  I had a hard drive that I pulled from a windows machine and put it in the mac.  The mac now boots into windows (not my intention :)) but doesn't recognize my wired keyboard so I cannot do anything (it does recognize the wired keyboard during the boot process).

I am unable to get this unit to boot to CD or other with the mac wireless keyboard nor the wired windows keyboard.

Any suggestions on how to get it to boot from CD (besides the usual methods) so I can reformat the drive and install the Mac OS from CD/DVD?

Thanks.

I purchased a 2013 MacBook Pro on eBay and even though the machine works fine, it has one user named “Mac” which is the administrator but I do not know the password.

The seller has not replied to my emails to find out what the password is so is there a way for me to reset it or perhaps do a clean install of High Sierra?

Hello, I don't typically work on Macs, nice machines, but just don't typically work on them.

I have a MacBook that the battery can't charge and I have tried cleaning the connection but it has not helped.

I can take the drive out but not sure which tools to use to copy user files (photos, documents, etc..) to a new Mac.  I can't think it would be all that hard.  Can anyone provide some suggestions?

Oh, the old MAC has Snow Lepord (10.1.6 ios)

Thanks

What is the process to create an Apple ID without entering a credit card or PayPal account number?

I have the iPhone 5.  Apple are not providing iOS 11 to users like me.  The cynical me says it's because they want me to spend to upgrade to the latest shiny toy.  Is that the real reason?   I really can't believe that hey can't afford to support performance and functional updates for upto 10 years.

Is Android any better?

Hello, we encounter today with this issue from one of our macs.  We try to reinstall the osx again,  but when going to select the drive only recovery drive appears and not the local one, try to repair the hard drive by the startup disk utility,  reset the SMC but keeps jumping to the same utility,  see pictures attached. 20170919_113625.jpg20170919_113637.jpg20170919_113654.jpg20170919_113702.jpg20170919_113706.jpg20170919_113712.jpg
Thank you.

I don't think there is any such software since I've been searching for days but I thought I'd ask on here as a last ditch effort.
I am looking for music management software (that runs on Windows) that supports both streaming from an Android device over the internet (ideally it has an Android app) and synchronizing an iPod.

My current set up:
  • iTunes as music management software, in order to synchronize my iPod.
  • CloudPlayer to stream from my Android device (all of my music is on Google Drive).
  • iSyncr to synchronize select playlists from iTunes to my Android device.

This set up isn't terrible but CloudPlayer does not feature all of the playlists I have in iTunes nor does it allow me to sort by iTunes fields (date added, etc.). I could technically just sync all of my music to my Android device as well but I don't really want to use up 40GB on my device for this purpose when I have a data plan large enough to support streaming on demand.

It's out of warranty, about 2.3 yrs old unit.

My spouse often update the IOS when available but for the
last 6 months, the screen is often not responding: pressing
the power side button to off the screen for 1-2 secs & then
press the button the button again often helps recover
the response of the touch screen but not always.

Is this a hardware (ie touch screen ) issue or IOS issue
& if IOS, reinstall all over will help?

I ever tried pressing the round Exit button & power button
together for 7 secs to reset but this did not resolve the
issue

When I go into the monitor's onscreen menu, it shows my resolution as 3840x2160, 30Hz (connected via DisplayPort).
Next to that it shows 3840x2160, 60Hz (maximum).
Based on the information I've been reading, it looks like the Mac Mini can't do anything over 3840x2160, 30Hz so that makes sense.
However, when I go into SYSTEM PREFERENCES > DISPLAYS and choose "Scaled" for the resolution, I get only the following options:
- 2560x1440 (low resolution)
- 2304x1296 (low resolution)
- 1920x1080 <- this one is marked
- 1504x846
- 1280x720
I have an abundance of cables but nothing allows me to get this thing to 4K.  Dell doesn't support Apple's OS so they don't want anything to do with it but I've been reading online that THIS monitor is supposed to be one of the recommendations online for a budget 4K monitor.
Any help would really be appreciated.

Morning all!
I'm an IT technician for a company, and one of my colleagues who is a graphic designer is using a MacBook Pro which is quite new, as in bought only earlier this year.
Yesterday she wanted to to work from home, so I helped to set up the network drives so that she could access them remotely providing she had an internet connection.

At home however, every time she attempted to save her document on this programme, the programme shut down unexpectedly.  Upon restarting the program, it showed the name of the file with (converted) at the end.

This ONLY happened when she was attempting to save. This morning, upon returning to work, she has been able to save without issue.

Any ideas?

Also, she has checked and there are no updates required.
