Ever since a recent update:

OS: Mavericks

Mail version:
Version 7.3 (1878.6)

I followed this instruction:
Try re-indexing mail per this Apple KB:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14876

But I still can not do a simple search. I would have already switched to Outlook 2011 for Mac, but can not get past the Gmail Two Step security.

How do I get Mac Mail to work again on Mavericks?

Hello,

We have a couple of Mac's on our Windows network.  Well, they are problematic at best.  The users experience extreme slowness at times and difficulties printing via email.  I just got off of the phone with one of the Mac users who was trying to print an email.  After clicking on print, she had to wait a very long time for anything to happen and then she is prompted for our proxy server credentials.  She has to wait a very long time again before she can do anything at all, like the machine is bogged down.  Finally after several minutes, you can type in the credentials.  Once that is done, the whole scenario has to be repeated and the user can never print the email?  Can anyone help with this situation?  I am not a Mac person, so please keep that in mind.  I am new to this position here.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm not sure how this happened but are there any remedies to it other than the usual data recovery options?

What could have caused this and is this a "feature" option in Mac OS X besides the using recovery utility at boot?

We've opted for OpenDNS filtering.  In the filter categories I'm blocking web mail.  I've built in bypass credentials and associated them with our policy.  However, when you attempt to access some web mail from Safari (on a Mac), in particular gmail and yahoo,  the page won't load and instead you get an error, "Safari can't establish a secure connection to the server "mail.google.com""

My goal is for staff to be forced to bypass when using these sites.  InternetExplorer allows a security exception, followed by the bypass screen.

Recently I have shifted gear from a windows dominated network with Mac and Ubuntu scattered about to a full Mac network. The network I am in is on it's way to being scalable and decently manageable however it needs some TLC and much attention.

My project now is teach myself ARD (Apple Remote Desktop) to take full advantage of the environment.  Currently there are some computers added that I can access and other that I cannot. So, I am starting over.

I have created a Apple Script that configures a Hidden Admin Account successfully however I cannot connect to a remote computer with the credentials. I have logged in with that user and can su'ed to it in terminal. I was wondering if there is something that I am doing wrong or should I enable kickstart and added that was. This is one of the computers that I couldn't connect to and had to delete from ARD in order to attempt to re add.

Anyone know best practices when it comes to this? This environment was originally setup by a retired consultant that knew about it and comfortable on Mac's but didn't take full advantage of anything.

Using Outlook 2011 and have two pop accounts setup. They have been working fine all year and now only one of them cannot send email. I have verified all account settings with the host. Deleted the account information and re-entered it in again. Same result. Have rebuilt the identity. Same result. Any help is appreciated!

I have an iphone 5 and an ipad, though I am specifically wondering about the iphone.

Is there a 'standard' battery test people have cooked up to test how long the battery runs?  Either an app or something you can do, like turn on the brightness 100%, turn on Bluetooth, wifi then stream a Netflix movie and just time how long the movie plays for.  just something relative to other people.  I didn't do this when it was new and now it's 1 3/4 years old.  does apple replace under applecare for battery 'complaints'?

If I do map my walk or other things when out walking, I get maybe 2 - 3 hours at most on a full charge (I guess that would be a good test? Mapmywalk, just leave it still on your deck outside the house and see how long the battery lasts?  or no motion would not use nearly as much as walking? Would have to turn off screen off settings so display keeps running, etc.

I DO KNOW THAT SOME THINGS GOBBLE POWER MORE THAN OTHER THINGS.  That's not the point.  Just seems 2 - 3 hours is too short? (I don't know the true number because I turn off the app when battery is low so I am not stuck in the woods with no phone : )

I'd love a specific series of steps that people have done and how long their phone ran for to see that 'yeah, I'm within 15 - 20 minutes of most people... '  or 'damn, I got 3 hours and everyone else is reporting 5 hours'.

I am developing a web site using PHP and mySQL and at one point I need to send the user a link to reset their password.

In my design, the e-mail is sent using HTML and the link is programmed using the obvious <a href="http://... &c tag.

This works fine on most systems; however, users with iPad and iPhone report that nothing happens when they click the link, although other links that others send them are working.

When I ask to see the links that are working it appears that they are written in plain text and that the link is actually being generated on the fly by Apple's e-mail reader.   However this approach will presumably not work on all systems.

Is there a recommended method of sending a link in an e-mail that will work on all systems (unless of course the user has turned links off, in which case nothing will work).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

My MacBook Pro is 2-1/2 years old, and now showing serious decline in battery life. I may have caused this since when I wok at my desk, or leave the house, the Apple certified charger is plugged into it, 24X7.

Now, when I unplug it and use it, it drops rather quickly.

What can I do software-wise to extend battery life?

Attached are the Battery settings.

Battery settings
How do I reduce screen brightness?

What can I do to extend battery life?

I only usually have open the program I need at that moment.

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm having grate issues with slow transfer speeds from my OS X Mavericks to Server 2008 over PPTP VPN.

I have some in to the office and the transfer speed is normal when on the local network.

I have tried using both SMB and CIFS transfer protocol and both just as slow.

For an idea of how slow. 20MB file took over 40 minutes to transfer.

Thanks

Not sure if this is the proper forum, but I am starting a business that will require the need for a lot of Macbook tech support. I am having a hard time finding a cost effective solution for this issue. Does anyone know of a small to medium size company that can provide support at an hourly rate? Any help or direction is appreciated.

I've been having issues with my calendar when I try to make appointments. I've logged a job with Pearson, but that was about 2 or 3 weeks ago and I've not heard anything since. Would you be able to help me with this? Or let me know who I can contact about it?

My calendar won't let me make bookings in particular rooms and won't show my bookings on PC calendars (I work on a mac).

I have created a movie in iMove on my Mac. I finalized the project but need to figure out how to burn it to a DVD (with the goal of letting my kids watch it on our TV through our DVD player).

The share --> iDVD option is not available on my iMovie application and I can not find a way to easily burn a DVD player-ready DVD.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi, I'm researching backup solutions for my iMac, shared network-attached storage and local data HD(s).

Can you tell me what the advantages/differences are between using a Time Capsule as the backup drive for the iMac HD + local HD(s)?

Thanks

I was trying to stream movies from a few sites, and now my browsers (both Google Chrome and Safari) appear to be hi-jacked.  I downloaded Sophos Cloud AV in an attempt to remove the threats, but could not unfortunately.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi everybody,

since update to iOS 8.0.2 and Citrix Receiver 5.9.1 we are having the following view of our Published Desktops:

image2.PNG
Clicking on the square Button on the Top Right Corner switches to the "normal" view of our Published Desktop. See below:

image1.PNG
Can somebody tell me how to go to the "normal" view of the Desktop by default (preconfigured for our users)? Or how to disable this new Feature?

Thanks for your help.

Hi everybody,

we have been running through the problems with iOS 8 and Citrix Receiver. After Upgrade to Version 5.9.1 of Citrix Receiver we are able to work again on our iPad's.

Unfortunatly we are having some graphic issues at Login.

We have configured a welcome message before you can proceed with Login to our Citrix Environment by GPO. You simple have to confirm it by clicking OK. Since Upgrade to iOS 8.0.2 and Citrix Receiver 5.9.1 we only have a black Screen were usally the message apperas.
The Workaround is to "click" on the top left Corner, were the language selection is. This obviously causes a refresh and the message and the OK button is shown. See Picture below:

Login dialog
Does anybody has the same issue?

Server Environment:

Windows Server 2008 R2
Citrix XenApp 6.5 (HRP: XA650W2K8X64R04 and Hotfix: XA650R04W2K8R2X64002 installed)

Thanks for your help.
