Apple OS

Apple's early computers ran on a variety of operating systems, including a Pascal version and one based on CP/M, before releasing its ProDOS with the advent of its 16-bit computer. With the release of the Lisa, which had its own OS, Apple and computing entered the graphical age; it was followed by the Macintosh, which offered a series of "System" operating systems. Other Mac operating systems included PowerPC until Apple acquired NeXT and folded it into the Mac OS. Current operating systems for Apple devices are Mac OS-X and iOS.

I'm trying to disable (turn off completely) Mavericks' Notification banners campus wide by command lines. Do you happen to know what's the command line to disable it?  And, yes, I did google it up but it kept on saying to turn off from System Preferences>App Store and uncheck these boxes. It doesn't answer my question.

Hi All,

I want to install mac as a server and configure it as mail server for 10 users, can someone help what mac server version and from where to download

We have about 50 OS X Macs all administered on Apple Remote Desktop . I have managed to configure the power setting so that they are all the same and various other things but I’m really stuck on the Screen saver.

I’d like to copy the company logo tweaked OS X screen saver settings from one Mac to all the managed Macs on ARD. Does anyone know which files I would need to copy into which location from the correctly configured screen saver Mac or is there a better way of doing this with ARD?
I have a hared time adding new folders to the list (see attached). I am forced to copy an existing one, then deleting its contents, then renaming it.

How would I add a new folder to the menu in the attached file??
I need to run that command from Mavericks. What's the command?

Hey there,

I'm having multiple users lose their local printers from the citrix sessions.  It just disappears.  This seems to happen sporadically and then resolve itself.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have a consulting company as a client that offers executive services to some of its clientele in house. What that entails is offices that are reserved for outsiders - not on the domain, wireless, and right now using one of their own printers on the domain through a desktop. the macs cannot access this, and we 'd like to upgrade a bit and get something for tablets.

i'm looking for a recommendation for a printer that works with tablets - android and ios, macs and windows 7, 8, 8.1. Wireless is  available.  These people bring their own devices and use the Internet and would like to print. Does anyone have a recommendation of a printer that works great with these devices? Also it would be great if it worked wirelessly consistently. The amount of printing can vary, so it should be able to handle some volume. It won't have to make booklets or anything like that - just print either legal or 81/2 X 11.
Hi Experts!

I have an new iMac in the environment, i've given it a static IP on our network and then i've joined it to the domain using an administrator account. The problem i'm having is when I join the iMac to the domain it doesnt create a computer account for the iMac in Active Directory, I've tried dis-joining it and re-joining putting a new OU path for it place the Computer account in and that hasnt worked. I've also logged the call with Apple to investigate further. I had this issue on Mavericks and I still have it on Yosemite. I already 2 iMacs and Mac Book Pro in the environment which started on Mavericks and joined the domain fine with the computer account being created succesfully.

A decade ago at a previous work place we use some software to store all our IT related passwords.
It was a nice free light-weight program that encrypted all our passwords.

Anyone recommended any free or useful programs to do that? Mac or Windows is fine

Thanks so much!
Mac - Connect to Server - "There was a problem connecting to the server The file server is available on your computer. Access the volumes and files locally."

I am attempting to connect via SMB, though I have attempted via AFP only to get the same message.

The end user is connecting via VPN and can ping the IP of the server and obviously has an IP assigned to it that is on the same network.
The end user is running OS X 10.9.2

I was not able to recreate the issue on another Mac using the same user credentials, server address, etc...

Other forums suggested renaming the Mac's Computer Name in Sharing, but this has not helped.
I have listed the volumes, but only the local hard drive populates.
Hi -- In a nutshell, someone set a passcode on my phone and now it is disabled and says connect to iTunes. When i connect to iTunes, it says to repsond to your phone so the computer can gain access. I can't respond because its disabled (circlejerk.) I do not use the cloud to backup my photos. I have been told my last resort to try to save some of the photos currently on the device is to find a third party software to get the photos off of it. I dont care about anything else as long as I can get the photos off of it and stored somewhere else. Do you know of any third party options? Please help me.
I have a Macmini with OSX Mavericks and Parallels 10 installed. Can I upgrade to OSX Yosemite  without corrupting current Parallels 10/Windows 8.1 installation?
I decided to do a reinstall by booting into the recovery part and using the Internet to download and reinstall but it has been stuck half way fir the longest while

Since 10 PM last night I doing this and now is 3 pm

Is this normal??

What to do???
I am replacing my Mac Pro (Snow Leopard) with a Mac Pro with Lion (OS 10.7.5) and my Windows PCs (Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8) are not able to connect to the shared folders on the newer Mac Pro.  They had no problem connecting to the older Mac Pro.  I have gone through all the steps and tried to keep things as simple as possible - everyone is on the "WORKGROUP" workgroup.  The 2 Mac users are simple-short names with simple passwords -- AND they work fine on the Mac.  There is no Firewall on any Windows PC.  Whenever I try to connect with the Windows PCs, I get the window that prompts me for a user and password.  No matter what combination I use, I can't get beyond that.  I have checked SMB on the Mac.

Is there a firewall I need to turn off on the Mac Pro?
Could this be related in any way to my AT&T router?
Years ago, I changed the IP range to 204.1.1.X.
My son at college is trying to get the data off an old hard drive out of an old mac laptop that got water spilled on it.

We have the old hard drive and it says it's model Fujitsi MHZ2250BH (date code 2008-11!!!!

My son removed the drive from the laptop and said he thought there was only one cable connecting the drive.

Googling that model, it says it's SATA.  So a) should there have been 2 connections (power and data).

And I have this:

I've used it for windows drives.  Is it the same thing for macs?  Connect power and data, then connect USB to another mac and the drive will be readable?
We have around 70 AD domain member Macs in our environment (iMacs and MacBooks) that are all on 10.9.5 using Office for Mac 2011-Outlook for email. When hyperlinks to files on network shares are clicked in an email, it does not open and returns the error that the file cannot be opened/found OR it will not do anything at all and show no errors.

When we open finder and go to the folder specified and open the file(s) and it always opens fine, so location/permission issues are not the problem.
A Google search did not reveal any apparent fixes or related subject matter.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated here.
I have just purchased a mac and have loaded windows 7 on it.  I use bluebeam PDF software that is windows only.  I would like it to be my default PDF software and if possible place a link to that software in the dock on the mac is that possible?
My MacBook Air is showing 1.1 GB of utilized memory (image 1) for kernel_task. I think this cause for alarm.

image 1
I've chosen to include the Parallels VM process (prl_vm_app) in the image as well, simply because its memory utilization is large (large but reasonable) and it may be associated with the underlying kernel_task issue. (It's worth noting that if I shutdown my Parallels VM process and reboot my Mac, that kernel_task comes back at about 0.64 GB, but doesn't jump to 1.1 GB until I boot up my Parallels VM.)

I'm inclined to think, that I do have an issue. Take a look at the summary data for the my Mac's memory (image 2). This is with Parallels VM running.

While I was away from the Macbook (sleeping actually), I came back to to find the below panic report - any insights somebody can offer?  Using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013) and OS X 10.10 (14A389)

Hi all - Any suggestions on having multiple Boot Partitions on a Mac?
I have a Macbook Pro (mid-2010 Unibody), always running the latest OS X, and has a 1TB internal HD, which works fine. I am adding another 1TB HD via the DVD Drive Bay. What I was envisioning was ... Partition the new Drive into 3 partitons.
Use a 333GB (give-or-take) Partition for Booting to WIndows. Use another 333GB Partition for Booting to Linux. And using the last leftover Partition just for Storage.
Any suggestions or pitfalls?
Can this dual-boot (Multi-boot) be installed to work just by Holding down the Option-Key when I turn on the Mac to select which partiton I want to boot into?
Is there an advantage to installing some kind of Boot Loader SW on this 2nd drive to choose between Linux & WIndows, leaving my original OS X Macintosh HD drive alone?
For this Mac, I am trying to stay away from any virtualization software or any other slick solutions other than totally separate partitions. I have dual-booted LOTS of Windows PC's but am less familiar with doing so for MAc, and less familiar with any limitations that I may run into.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
1) Prevent the users from saving the local files via Group Policy and if the user using Laptop Synchronize the changes to the shared storage when they log back to the domain after  whenever they joins the domain.
Ever since a recent update:

OS: Mavericks

Mail version:
Version 7.3 (1878.6)

I followed this instruction:
Try re-indexing mail per this Apple KB:

But I still can not do a simple search. I would have already switched to Outlook 2011 for Mac, but can not get past the Gmail Two Step security.

How do I get Mac Mail to work again on Mavericks?
