I have 2 pcs that are sharing one monitor. The monitor has built-in software to switch from one pc to the other. I want to be able to have both pcs running and be able to use my wireless mouse and keyboard with both - not at the same time, obviously. Currently, I have to pull both receivers out (keyboard & mouse) and re-insert them in to the other pc. I've explored many options. I do not want to use a traditional KVM device. I want to maintain my current, direct VGA and DVI cable connections to my monitor. I'm really not concerned about audio either. What I'm looking in to now is a USB hub (with a manual switch) that can be shared with 2 pc's . . . where I would just keep both receivers in the hub. Then, when wanting to switch pcs, I first click on my screen to switch pc's (with built in HP display software) and then press the manual switch on the hub to make the wireless mouse and keyboard active on that pc. I've just barely started researching this option. Need input from experts. Is it doable? Any recommendations on a good USB hub with this functionality?

HI

I have been asked to provide a method of sharing the display of a computer over several screens across the company location.

The number of screens is currently unknown and the locations will be spread out (the site is very large)

What are my best options here?

Cheers

Hello Experts

I have a customer request where the situation is like this:

left side of the table pc1 and display1
right side of the table pc2 and display2

Both pc's are used for 3D CAD rendering but are located in different domains and do not have connectivity to each other.
Atm each pc has a single 27" Dell U2713HM with WQHD (2560 X 1440), available connectors are: dp, dvi, vga, hdmi

The customer wishes now to be able to use both display's from either pc1 or pc2 (pc1 and its own display plus extended diplay to pc2's monitor and vice versa) at full resolution through main CAD graphiccard.
Graphiccard is AMD FirePro W5000 with 2dp and 1dvi.

Easiest way would be to connect both pc's with both display's, but since switching input mode on the screen is unconfortable the customer wishes to have something like a kvm switchbox or just a display switchbox.

I havent found a matching device.
Do you have any suggestions?

Summary:
support for QWHD (2560 X 1440)
only digital and preferably dp (no vga)
easy switching
only display switching (no other devices e.g. mouse or keyboard are connected)
can be 2 seperate devices

This setup has to be installed at 20 workspaces.

I'd be happy to find comments and hints on this. Especially if you have positiv experience with such a device or setup.

cheers
Ben

I'm trying to get our workbench a bit more organized. It seems that we're always working on more and more boxes, and I'd like to save some table space and mount a couple monitors on the wall, each with its own keyboard and mouse attached so that when we bring a box in, it's pretty much plug and go.  I saw Ergotron makes one but it's well over $400.  Any ideas or suggestions on something a bit more affordable?

I have a client with 1 server and 30 workstations. We want to add a IP KVM for the server a model aten KN 1000. The KN 1000 is setup and working local and has a LAN IP setup already.

Clients LAN is 10.10.1.0-255 Subnet 255.255.255.0

The LAN side of the firewall is 10.10.1.254

The WAN side of the firewall is 10.1.10.10

The client is using comcast buisness class internet with a SMC modem. The modem has it's public ip and it has 4 ports with DHCP and it's givign the firewall the 10.1.10.10 address.

They also have another pc that is on this 10.1.10.xxx network (LAN of the Modem) and it is used to admin the modem and report it's status.

Comcast has the option of passing the public ip through to the LAN side ports of the modem and direct into the firewall so the firewall would have the public ip as it's WAN address and not the 10.1.10.10 address.

First question is I assume this is a double NAT setup? Any issues with this? Been running a couple months and no issues they have seen. They like the management capabilty to manage the modem and using the pass through option you lose that and all troubleshooting has to be done on the phone with comcast.

They have a spare modem on site that can be replaced and will auto configure with the current setup but the the passthrough option comcast has to be involved.

The firewall is Cisco WRVS4400N and I am tryinmg to figure out how I can control the IP KVM from the internet. I need to be able to VPN into the network to …

I'm looking for a 4X2 kVM that uses HDMI ports for both the inputs and the outputs. I also need to be able to extend the displays from a single input (not duplicate).

The best I can find is this one from Aten which has an HDMI and a DVI output (not a deal breaker), but I'm not sure if it supports extending displays.

I have an existing KVM that is working just fine for us, but I'd like to get remote IP access to it.

Is there a reasonably priced IP KVM Console I can attach to the KVM so I can get remote access? The KVM is Belkin and they have a device that appears like it would work, but they haven't been able to confirm that it will work with this KVM and it's also a bit pricey and gets mixed reviews.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

This is the KVM we are using

Machine A is a brand new Win 7 Home Premium with twoHD, 750 gb and 950 gb.

Machine B is an older XP with  dozens of programs installed and data.

Is there a way to clone the XP drive into a new partition on the Win 7?

Is there a way to make the XP work in a virtual setup on the Win 7?

Thanks

Hi,

I'm looking for a powerfull quite computer which can serve as a server AND has a remote access card.
Goals is to run vmware workstation or ESX server on it ... on the attic. So servers will be not accessible physically/have a console attached. Therefore it is vital I can access them via a remote access card.

I already have an HP Microserver but the machine is so terribly slow (please do not give tips to improve this, I already did).

I've been using this Acer Travelmate 3200 Ok for several weeks &
just couple of days ago, it started to give a message that the USB
Hub has power surge & then followed by Blue Screen of Death

Atached event viewer showing the error

As this laptop has only 2 USB ports, I needed to connect in a
USB hub to increase number of USB connections.

What else can I do other than "only 2 USB devices at any one time"?

The USB Hub is ATEN's UH-275 which I connect a Netgear Wireless
dongle WG111v2 & an IBM USB mouse

I'm on Win XP SP2.

I tried removing the mouse & plug it into the other USB port & occasionally
still get this Voltage surge occasionally appearing at the bottom right bar
but laptop did not BSOD

I have a client who has 2 Dell computers he wants to connect to a KVm switch.

One PC has a graphics card with a DMS59 connection on the card onl and the other PC has a graphics card with a DVI Connection only on the card.
The monitor has only a VGA connection on it.

Can anyone confirm for me that we can get a DVI KVM Switch then use a DMS59 to DVI adapter cable on the relevant computer in order to use both computers with the one keyboard monitor and mouse.  I am presuming I can also get a VGA to DVI adapter to be able to connect the monitor into the KVM Swiitch.

I am trying to find a kvm so i can have bios level access to servers and for workstations. Can someone recommend some products. I want IP kvm but i would like to use it on the lan also if there is no internet connection. Is this possible. I am looking for remote PDU and Serial Console functions also.

I was looking at ATen KN1000 as it has a PDU built in and one console port to use with workstations but it looks like it has only 1 ethernet prot so i would have to add a 4 port hub/switch at the workstation also and i would like to avoid that.

If only someone made a UPS/KVM/PDU/4 port Switch Combo for workstations.

Hi Experts,

We need to replace a two of our tower based servers that are currently sitting on the floor in our server room. We are thinking about buying 2x rack mountable HP ProLiant DL380 G7 servers.

The main aim we would like is to save on space, keep the server room tidier whilst keeping cables more tidy. However we currently do not have a rack cabinet and do not know much about racks so would appreciate some help on what to buy please.

We are only a quite a small setup so we probably don’t particularly need a large rack cabinet. However we would prefer to invest in a good quality cabinet & would like some spare rack space to add hardware in future if need be. Our server room has an air conditioning unit in the celling.

Also at the moment we also have the following hardware that ideally we would like to rack mount if possible:
1x 24 port Switch
1x Sonicwall email security/ Anti spam appliance (1u I think)
2x APC smart UPC – 22cm (Height), 42cm (Length/Depth), 7cm (Width) – Or should we replace with rack mount UPS?
1x CCTV camera hard drive appliance (1u I think)
In the future we will need room to add an additional 2 or 3 rack mount servers

Also we have a Dell Poweredge T410, 45cm (Height), 21.5cm (Width), 60cm (Length/Depth) that we wondered if possible we could rack mount? Or is this not a good idea?

Do we need to buy HP brand rack mounts?, or are there other good brands?. what size should we buy?, and are there any other specific items you …

Hello. We have been having an issue with one of our servers, it sometimes bogs down and we can't access it until it's manually rebooted. Do you guys recommend any device I can install that will allow me to power cycle/reboot a server remotely?

Thanks!

Hello experts,

I had drops for a long time and didn't payed any atenttion to it, so now I faced as a big problem. I did a pathping to yahoo.com and google.com and they both have 100% lose on one path. I have attached the pics so you can see. We have 4 PCs connected to a router and router to modem, and they all seem to have drop issues. Sometimes I get delay messages in chats and this may be also the reason not succeding on making a back-up through lan to the server. Server is fine, is Server 2008 R2 set-up to DNS client, no DNS server or DNS problems. Please tell me how can I fix this issue? :-( As is becoming very frustrating.

I purchased a computer to replace my old one.  After getting it all set up I noticed that my old pc had a serial port and I was using it for a device.  I purchased a serial to usb cable and I need it to use COM 1.  A window pops up that says "com 1 is being used by another device".  How do I change is is being used by com1?

Old pc is xp and new pc is windows 7.

Hi all,

I have a linux software firewall running on a pc as a pseudo hardware device.

I need to change a bios setting but our office only has these all-in-one pcs so I don't actually have a monitor that I can plug into the firewall to see the bios. The keyboards are also blluetooth.

To make this change, I'll have to bring in my screen from home plus a keyboard plus cables.

As an IT admin, I know I need this stuff here, but if there is some software or a method to use a laptop as a screen, I would rather do that.

Possible?
