CAD/Architecture Software

Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer systems to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations. CAD software for mechanical design uses either vector-based graphics to depict the objects of traditional drafting, or may also produce raster graphics showing the overall appearance of designed objects. As in the manual drafting of technical and engineering drawings, the output of CAD must convey information, such as materials, processes, dimensions, and tolerances, according to application-specific conventions.

We have a group of users who receive .dwg files via email and they use the free drawing viewer, Autodesk TrueView, to view and print the drawings.

Typically, they will do the following steps...
First they zoom the drawing to get a specific area of the drawing they want to print to scale, say a single office on a floor.
They select 'Plot' from the ribbon and then select our Wide format printer.
They will then select a paper size to begin with...maybe Arch D to begin with
Under Plot Area - they select 'Window' and then select the area to print.
Under Plot scale they will then uncheck 'Fit to Paper' and select a custom scale .. maybe 1/2" = 1'-0" and see how that looks in the paper layout.  They may then change the paper size slightly or the scale to try to fill the selected paper size.

However, then is where the problem begins and it seems as though it is a new problem for them (?).
They almost always (but not 100% of the time) then receive the following pop-up message:
'The annotation scale is not equal to the plot scale.  Do you want to continue? "

They click 'Continue' and the drawing plots out, but is not really to scale.  This becomes an issue because they may then be handing that print to an installer, etc.

I am not sure what any of this means or how to fix it.  As I mentioned, they are saying this 'never used to happen'... or 'hardly ever happened' but now seems to be happening pretty frequently.   I am not a CAD user, so I could use some help here.…

Hi everyone!

I have a drawing that I want to color. However, whenever I try to color the fill for my product, the program freezes or it only colors the sketched lines.

Can anyone help me to color the fill of my product? Preferably blue and black :)

Any help is much appreciated!

Hey Expert,
I would like to install a Vault Pro 2019 on a 2016 server core.  At the moment everything was ok, I install SQL standard, configure firewall etc etc I ran the Pre-check tool, only 1 warning as usual about response time. I launch the setup file for the vault, I can't select it because internet explorer is require to install the vault pro but internet explorer is not available on a core server....

1st question, i am not sure IE is really needed on the vault server... ?
2nd question, can i trick it so the install won't check for IE..    ?

May be some of you already tried or talked with autodesk about it ?

Thanks in advanced for your feedback.

Convert dxf to unitechnik file format

Do you know of a program to do this?

Hi

We are going to set up a CAD/CAM lab to run Solidworks Software. I have brought the PCs with the following configuration.
Intel Core i5 8600 - 3.1 GHz
16GB 2x 8GB DDR4 2400MHz
2.5"240GB SSD
NVIDIA Quadro P1000  4 GB GDDR5 - PCIe 3.0 x16 low profile - 4 x Mini DP 4 GB LP GDDR5 PCI Express
VGA\DVI monitors

I think i have to buy (Mini DP) to VGA Adapter to connect the graphics card to the monitor.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rankie-DisplayPort-Adapter-1080P-Converter/dp/B00Z08KW8C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1530694260&sr=8-3&keywords=mini+dp+to+vga

Now ,I have three queries:

1) On the NVIDIA Quadro P1000,i can see the 4 Ports. Is there any particular reason for having 4 ports, rather than having 2 ports, if the desktop needs extended?
http://www.pny.com/nvidia-quadro-p1000

2) Also if i use only one port to connect a VGA monitor, will the 4 GB RAM be used efficiently from the card OR is the 4GB distributed across all the ports?

3) Is this graphics card too much ? and do i need to to buy NVIDIA Quadro P620 2GB GDDR5.

Your suggestion much appreciated
Thanks

I noticed a lot of construction/designers and architects prefer using that Bluebeam software instead of the Acrobat.  Is that a price alternative or there are other benefits?
Anyone familiar with the software?

My company has a folder of .dwg  images (AutoCAD/Assembly Drawings ) ranging from 200-500 docs.

My goal is to get these in TIFF format for legal review.

Now I've written a program that uses eDrawings free viewer to open these and read the images into memorystream ~ the reason for this is that any corrupt file isn't read into memory stream and is therefore skipped. So everything up to this point is simple but it gets a little complicated from here.

Some of the images, say 3-5% are zoomed out on a specific area, without any other pixellation on the pictureframe.

In my attachments "pic1" and "pic4" are standard images. "Pic 5" is a tiny dwg drawing in the corner, however if you zoom in it ("Pic 6") becomes a lot bigger and more noticeable, and we aren't losing any other  parts of the image (pixels).

My question is: Is there code that I can use that would tell my program

"save the image into memorystream as full screen if it takes up less than 1/15 of the pictureframe/picturebox and if there are no other pixellations"

Like even an idea where to start looking would be nice.

I am thinking about something:

if imageheight < 1/15 of frameheight   AND   imagewidth < 1/15   framewidth then  print image fullscreen

Any thoughts?

I am updating AutoCAD 2019 documents and saving them as PDF files so others can view them.  When I try to Plot the document to a PDF file it only creates a PDF of the area that is shown in white.  How do I expand the white area to cover the whole page of the CAD document?  The original came from our vendor and we just update the document as changes are made in our district.  There are 7 tabs in this document that have the exact same issue.

Are you thinking about creating an Amazon Web Services account for your business? Not sure where to start? In this course you’ll get an overview of the history of AWS and take a tour of their user interface.

Hello Experts - I'm starting my budget for next year and one thing I would like to do is replace some monitors.  I work for a small architectural firm and right now we're using relatively inexpensive Acer 24" monitors.  They're ok but I'd like to do better.  I'm looking for recommendations for monitors that would work well for architectural designers using Revit and CAD.  Let me know what you think!

We’re having an issue with Autocad DWG files not locking when opened by a user.  A user will open a file on a windows share and start to edit, then another user will open the same file and the first user’s session will go from read/write to read only.  Here’s the rub:  It’s incredibly inconsistent.  Most of the time it works as advertised, but once or twice per day (70 users in the environment) someone will complain that it just went read-only for no reason.  The way it’s supposed to work is, when a file is opened the original gets changed from a .dwg to a .bak and a .dwl and .dwl2 file is written to the same directory to “lock” the file so other users can’t edit it.  The problem seems to be that sometimes the .dwl and .dwl2 files aren’t written to the share for 15 or 20 minutes (sometimes not at all) instead of writing there immediately (as far as I can tell).  When user 2 opens the same file, their computer will not see a .dwl or .dwl2 file and then it will create them, locking user 1’s drawing mid-flight.
Autodesk says this can be caused by network latency.  But I’ve checked and any users having the issue have <1ms ping to the server.  I’ve filtered out .dwl and .dwl2 files from antivirus but it seems to continue to happen.

All users on windows 10 x64 hard wired in, not on wifi
Server is 2008r2
Users all in the same permission groups

AutoCAD 2016-2018.  Just wondering if the following specs (my concern really is the 2 GB of VRAM), can run AutoCAD on an i7. 16GB RAM, 512 SSD, with a video card that only has 2GB of dedicated VRAM?  The video card is what is concerning me.

Thanks!!!

Hello,
I have an Auto-CAD .dwg that I would like to edit in Visio 2016.  I can convert it but the only thing I can do is move the entire layer with walls and tanks instead of individual shapes.  I've checked witht he person who created this and they assured me the .dwg is not locked and is editable.  Ultimately I would like to be able to move around the shapes to see if there is a better configuration.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Dear Experts,

I have some 2D lines as sewer lines in AutoCAD. I have a 3D terrain surface in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Can I project those lines as per Civil 3D terrain? Then I have to extrude the sewer as per terrain profile.

Is it possible? If possible, how to do that?

Regards,
Soumen Roy

I have been asked to develop a prototype hand tool control system for our maintenance engineers using 2 coloured closed cell foam. Apparently the foam can be machined on a cnc mill with the right cutter. My problem is, I want a dxf file of the outline of each tool to load into my cam software. I have been unable to find existing drawings online, so I need to make my own. Does anyone know the best way to do this?. Should I scan them (I have a flatbed scanner and a 3d scanner), or photograph them. which file format should I save the images in? and then how do I convert these images into dxf's. I have spaceclaim 2015 and rhino 5 but no real 2d cad software. Is there something that can convert a scan to a vector outline?
thanks

Dear EE experts,

Good day!
Apologize if we don't know how to explain the subject clearly, we would like to ask for tech advise support on what is the best software program that we can use for our requirement project (simple animate program).
Here's what we would want to happen:
- a software that will show the list of our products (small image only)
- after clicking one product, the image has different parts that can be clicked, including the removing of the product's cover (so the user can see what are the assemblies inside of it.
- inside, will show the parts, and when the user hover to one part, it will show some info such as Date updated, what are the update of it.

Basically, we want it to be animated a bit...

Thank you and hope to hear soon...

We are looking for the best application to measure and make annotations on PDFs for workers we have in the field with tablets/laptops in the field.
We have in the past used Adobe Acrobat, AutoDesk DWG TruView and AutoDesk Design Review but we wanted to see if there is something better?

Any help would be appreciated.

We have been battling engineering / CAD software performance problems and observe that this software starts and runs significantly faster when logged in as Domain Administrator OR local Administrator, than it does as any other Domain user.  The software is SolidWorks 2015.
We have checked many obvious things so far such as Group Policy settings (or lack there-of, so non-policy).  Has anyone encountered anything similar?  Thanks.

when you are working with Autocad and suddenly it goes on grid format.
you try to copy your geometry but it gets placed in grid coordinate.
you check your grid in settings and its off...
