Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer systems to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations. CAD software for mechanical design uses either vector-based graphics to depict the objects of traditional drafting, or may also produce raster graphics showing the overall appearance of designed objects. As in the manual drafting of technical and engineering drawings, the output of CAD must convey information, such as materials, processes, dimensions, and tolerances, according to application-specific conventions.

One of our employees use AutoCAD (version 2013 or 14 I believe), and sometimes he will have problems connecting to the activation server (powered by LMtools) whenever he is in the office or connected via VPN at a job site.  I restart the activation service, and he can connect to the activation server without problems, but sometimes I would have to fiddle around with the activation server until he can connect to the server, and I can successfully ping to the server, so there must be a persisting problem with the activation service/program.  Does anyone out there have any insight as to of why this problem keeps occurring?

Hi Gigs,

I work as ELV sytem designer. Everyday i need to count the data points , ip phones etc from the futnither layout drawings mostly from autocad drawing or sometimes from pdf drawing also.

The problem is that those object are not defined with specific properties, so they apear just as images on the drawings. I have attached the snap of sample drawing.

In the drawing i have put two box in magenta/purple color , one is showing square around the chair , so i can count how many users are there, second is around a table for the conference so to count no. of conference phones. This is just an example to understand my requirement.

What i am looking for is that i select a particular image and i want to know how many of the same images are available on this drawing , i mean the count of that image....

so how many instances of the chairs on the drawing thats what i want to know...

appreciate if you gigs can help me to know exacts steps to count this...

Thanks....

How do I insert the Stencils > Title Blocks > Scale shape and display the architect scale (3/15" : 1') instead of absolute scale (1:64)? Yes, I can manually change the scale but if I do, its no longer dynamic, that is if I change the scale from

Design tab > Page Setup panel > page setup button (small button) > Page Setup Window > Drawing Scale tab > Drawing scale

the label doesn't automatically update to reflect the new scale.

thanks

Good Afternoon,

We have numerous users that use Draftsight (free version) for viewing CAD Drawings etc.

Two users have reported that Draftsight keeps crashing when opened. It simply hangs on the Draftsight logo before receiving the error 'Draftsight has stopped working' and you have no choice but to force close it.

When logging into the machine as the local admin (not a domain user) the software works fine. The domain user is also set to be an admin on the laptop.

Below is the error from the eventviewer when attempting to start the software:

Faulting application name: draftsight.exe, version: 12.0.2.51585, time stamp: 0x53228a6e
Faulting module name: ExtCommands_3.08_9.tx, version: 12.1.0.1077, time stamp: 0x5323f1db
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x0000000000033dd8
Faulting process id: 0x13e8
Faulting application start time: 0x01d15e8e1f3294e9
Faulting application path: C:\bin\draftsight.exe
Faulting module path: C:\bin\ExtCommands_3.08_9.tx
Report Id: 61af9bc5-ca81-11e5-8dd0-94659c5b1642

Any ideas on what could be causing this?

Many thanks in advance.

I have an excel worksheet that is embedded into a Visio drawing but it contains too many rows to display on a single drawing sheet. Is there a way to tell Visio how span the table across multiple drawing sheets? In some CAD packages this is controlled by setting certain "growth" characteristics. for instance I tell it the max height I want the table and whether I want it to place the continuation to the right/left/next sheet.
I don't want to play games with images that have to be updated, I want Visio to grow the worksheet across multiple drawing sheets.

Alternatively, an option to print Excel Worksheets with standard ASME compliant format for a D size drawing would also be acceptable.
