CAD/Architecture Software

Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer systems to aid in the creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. CAD output is often in the form of electronic files for print, machining, or other manufacturing operations. CAD software for mechanical design uses either vector-based graphics to depict the objects of traditional drafting, or may also produce raster graphics showing the overall appearance of designed objects. As in the manual drafting of technical and engineering drawings, the output of CAD must convey information, such as materials, processes, dimensions, and tolerances, according to application-specific conventions.

User wants to get a Windows Laptop to run AutoCad 2019
He sees lots of well-priced i5 units.

He is not working with 3-dimensional objects in AutoCad - mostly for 'blueprints' for construction.  Revet sometimes does 3D stuff that is relevant.

I know that the cheaper the laptop is, the less complex the graphics circuitry.

He saw a good deal on a Lenovo
Intel i5 mobile processor, 8 GB RAM, Intel UHD Graphics 620

Is this acceptable for his floorpans in AutoCad?

Thanks.

HTML5 and CSS3 Fundamentals

Build a website from the ground up by first learning the fundamentals of HTML5 and CSS3, the two popular programming languages used to present content online. HTML deals with fonts, colors, graphics, and hyperlinks, while CSS describes how HTML elements are to be displayed.

We have experienced organic growth within our environment for graphical rendering type use cases.  We have about 12 users that have a requirement for cpu intensive or gpu intensive workloads.  At the moment we have purchased high spec'd machines which they use locally.  Im looking at future growth and wondering what the next step up in architecture would look like.  When would we reach the tipping point in terms of price and value to moving to a more enterprise approach.

The programs we use are:
Rhino,
3DS Max
Cinema 4
Corona
Archicad
Revit LT
SKetchup Pro
Creo with Windchill

How do I use metric units in in AutoCAD 2019?

Hello all,
I have a client that is using Tekla Structures (similar to AutoCAD but in doing bridges, etc. instead of buildings).
We replaced his old computer with a new one.
In the new system they have an nVidia Quadro P1000 video card and in the old system they have an nVidia Geforce GTX680
It seems that there is a rendering issue when doing a selection box on an existing model on the new video card whereas the old video card does not have this issue.
Is there any settings that need to be done on the new system inside of Tekla Structures to fix this?
Or is the Quadro P1000 a card that doesn’t work correctly with Tekla and I have to get an old GeForce GTX card?
I know that the GeForce card will cause crashes and that the Quadro card will not.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kelly W.

Ever since we upgraded to Acrobat 2019, we have been having problems creating pdf's from AutoCAD Civil 3d 2018. Black/white pdf's appear to have colored linework on-screen while zoomed out but turn black/gray as you zoom in (the pdf's plot correct without color). Also, random linework in the pdf is broken/randomly jumbled - dashed lines appear as arrows.
example of broken lineworkscreen colors turn black/gray as you zoom in

We have a customer who is using Inventor 2018 who has an issue whereby they can open drawings but when they click within the drawing, it all goes blotchy.

The computer is Windows 7 64-Bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 virtual)
8GB RAM
Catalyst Pro

Not being Inventor proficient, we are looking to see if this is to do with the graphics card ot if we need to tweak any settings in Inventor, and if so, where.

I have files with a DWG extension.  They were made a bunch of years ago and are supposedly blueprints. they are about 100KB files.  They've been sitting on a thumb drive for years.

I've tried opening them with irfanview and LibreCAD.  Both say they can't open them.

I used https://www.zamzar.com/convert/dwg-to-pdf/ for one of them and it made a PDF with some rectangular shapes / lines, but likely not all that shoudl be there and not aligned correctly (1 rectangle is off to the side).  Is it because they are old and newer programs cant render them correctly? Or they corrupt?

Any recommendations on a universal viewer or something that might be able to open the files?  We're looking to make PDFs or something so we can print them on a large paper printer at staples.

Hi,
I have to reinstall an Autocad 2011 NETWORK licence server. The server crashed and now my designer cannot get his licence.

I have my subcription contract in order but Autodesk don't why to try a best offert on how to resintall it... They want me to install Autocad 2018 or something and really don't want to try to put in their head that when an employee is used to a version of autocad has as all the shortcuts and macros created, going to a newer version that bring NOTHING good is not wanted...

Does anyone remember how to install an autocad 2011 licence manager (I think is is a flexlm or something). I have all the 8 original cds but don't knwo where to start.

Hey Expert,
I would like to install a Vault Pro 2019 on a 2016 server core.  At the moment everything was ok, I install SQL standard, configure firewall etc etc I ran the Pre-check tool, only 1 warning as usual about response time. I launch the setup file for the vault, I can't select it because internet explorer is require to install the vault pro but internet explorer is not available on a core server....

1st question, i am not sure IE is really needed on the vault server... ?
2nd question, can i trick it so the install won't check for IE..    ?

May be some of you already tried or talked with autodesk about it ?

Thanks in advanced for your feedback.

Hi

We are going to set up a CAD/CAM lab to run Solidworks Software. I have brought the PCs with the following configuration.
Intel Core i5 8600 - 3.1 GHz
16GB 2x 8GB DDR4 2400MHz
2.5"240GB SSD
NVIDIA Quadro P1000  4 GB GDDR5 - PCIe 3.0 x16 low profile - 4 x Mini DP 4 GB LP GDDR5 PCI Express
VGA\DVI monitors

I think i have to buy (Mini DP) to VGA Adapter to connect the graphics card to the monitor.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Rankie-DisplayPort-Adapter-1080P-Converter/dp/B00Z08KW8C/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1530694260&sr=8-3&keywords=mini+dp+to+vga

Now ,I have three queries:

1) On the NVIDIA Quadro P1000,i can see the 4 Ports. Is there any particular reason for having 4 ports, rather than having 2 ports, if the desktop needs extended?
http://www.pny.com/nvidia-quadro-p1000

2) Also if i use only one port to connect a VGA monitor, will the 4 GB RAM be used efficiently from the card OR is the 4GB distributed across all the ports?

3) Is this graphics card too much ? and do i need to to buy NVIDIA Quadro P620 2GB GDDR5.

Your suggestion much appreciated
Thanks

I noticed a lot of construction/designers and architects prefer using that Bluebeam software instead of the Acrobat.  Is that a price alternative or there are other benefits?
Anyone familiar with the software?

I am updating AutoCAD 2019 documents and saving them as PDF files so others can view them.  When I try to Plot the document to a PDF file it only creates a PDF of the area that is shown in white.  How do I expand the white area to cover the whole page of the CAD document?  The original came from our vendor and we just update the document as changes are made in our district.  There are 7 tabs in this document that have the exact same issue.

Hello Experts - I'm starting my budget for next year and one thing I would like to do is replace some monitors.  I work for a small architectural firm and right now we're using relatively inexpensive Acer 24" monitors.  They're ok but I'd like to do better.  I'm looking for recommendations for monitors that would work well for architectural designers using Revit and CAD.  Let me know what you think!

AutoCAD 2016-2018.  Just wondering if the following specs (my concern really is the 2 GB of VRAM), can run AutoCAD on an i7. 16GB RAM, 512 SSD, with a video card that only has 2GB of dedicated VRAM?  The video card is what is concerning me.

Thanks!!!

Hello,
I have an Auto-CAD .dwg that I would like to edit in Visio 2016.  I can convert it but the only thing I can do is move the entire layer with walls and tanks instead of individual shapes.  I've checked witht he person who created this and they assured me the .dwg is not locked and is editable.  Ultimately I would like to be able to move around the shapes to see if there is a better configuration.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

User wants to get a laptop to use with AutoCad.

I looked at BestBuy, and saw the following specs:

HP - OMEN by HP 17.3" Laptop -
Intel Core i7 -
12GB Memory -
AMD Radeon RX 580 -
1TB Hard Drive

Is the Radeon RX 580 acceptable for AutoCad?

Thanks.

Dear EE experts,

Good day!
Apologize if we don't know how to explain the subject clearly, we would like to ask for tech advise support on what is the best software program that we can use for our requirement project (simple animate program).
Here's what we would want to happen:
- a software that will show the list of our products (small image only)
- after clicking one product, the image has different parts that can be clicked, including the removing of the product's cover (so the user can see what are the assemblies inside of it.
- inside, will show the parts, and when the user hover to one part, it will show some info such as Date updated, what are the update of it.

Basically, we want it to be animated a bit...

Thank you and hope to hear soon...
