Cell Phones

A cellular phone (also known as a mobile phone, cell phone, hand phone, or simply a phone) is a telephone that can make and receive telephone calls over a radio link while moving around a wide geographic area by connecting to a cellular network provided by a mobile phone operator, allowing access to the public telephone network. Mobile phones that offer services such as text messaging, email, Internet access, business applications, gaming, photography and more general computing capabilities are referred to as smartphones.

Introduction:

This article is in continuity with my previous article HTC Sensation Android Smartphone with ICS (Undocumented Features) : Part 1  Just in case you have not read it; it may be worthwhile to go through it before reading this one. Many terms which I will be using throughout this article may tend to be a bit difficult to comprehend, if you are a first time user of the Android Operating System (OS). Though I have written this article using ICS as the Operating System, it can be used as a general guideline for non-android cellphones too.

Battery:

The battery is one component in the mobile world where progress has been slow compared to other sectors. Yes, companies are making better batteries today. However with the introduction of smart phones, the demand for power has increased manifold in comparison to earlier basic phones, which were only used for calling and texting.

Phones were never meant to replace mobile computers but owing to the compactness and ease of carrying, they have indeed become today’s lightweight laptops (if not the extremely sophisticated ones). This ultimate switch-over in requirement has generated the need to supply batteries that should last as per the user’s expectations.

However, this power requirement always seems to be unmet, due to the extremely high use of smart phones. Moreover, there is always a trade-off between battery weight and its …

This review is intended to give you an idea of what to expect when you start using the Verizon Droid X Smart phone as well as give some tips as to ways make it run a bit faster and preserve battery life.

Operating System
The Droid X runs on the android operating system based off of Linux. The fact that this is open source gives you endless choices for free apps written by developers, usually ad based, but surprisingly stable and useful considering that they are free. These and all other applications are obtained through the Android Marketplace.

Application Review
Being this was technically my first smart phone I was extremely pleased to find out that purchasing applications required a credit card and was not just tacked onto your monthly bill, giving you a lot more control over how much you spend on apps.

Another pleasant surprise was the addition of Google Maps which replaces VZ navigator and is free as well as opposed to the 9.99 a month charge required to run VZ Navigator. VZ Navigator did run more stable than Google Maps, but in the time that I have been using it (only 2 months) there has been a few updates that have improved stability. As far as ease of use, I found Google Maps to be much more user friendly, more options, and more enjoyable features.

The recent release of Android version 2.2 (Froyo) added more features to the Droid X even though it was one of the last Android phones

Introduction:

Phones have become an integral part of our lives and computer lovers have been using them a lot more for other purposes than calling and texting. I have had the opportunity to try the Apple iPhone, HTC Touch, Sony Ericsson and Nokia smartphones. Each one of these has its merits and demerits but at my place we use mobile phones heavily and Nokia has outlived all of its peers.

A smartphone is a mobile phone that offers more advanced computing ability and connectivity than a contemporary basic 'feature phone'. Smartphones may be thought of as handheld computers integrated within a mobile telephone that are able to run applications based on platforms such as Java ME. A smartphone allows the user to install and run more advanced applications based on a specific platform. Simply put – if a phone has a QWERTY keypad, a touch screen or costs more than $50, it is most probably a smartphone.

This article focuses on Nokia phones only since I happen to use one and I would like to share stuff about it which would definitely make your life easy.

1. Powerful key combinations

Ovi suite is a totally different beast than PC suite though a few features between the two maybe common. I have experienced it and Nokia is pushing it down the throat of newer phone users, but Ovi Suite is IMO not compatible with the older smartphones of Nokia where PC Suite works.

N97 - is one of the newer phones I guess and maybe what I wrote is not in line with the specific model of yours.

The above shortcuts are quite global to Nokia phones and if you don't feel so, I can request the Page Editors to remove such stuff.

Are you an occasional cell phone user? Send a few texts a week, maybe have a few quick calls throughout the day? If so, you may be able to save a significant amount on your monthly cell phone bill by switching to a prepaid plan.

Take a look at the last 6 months of billing on your current plan and count up the total minutes used per month. Once you've got an average minutes per month, divide your monthly bill by the average monthly minutes to calculate a per minute rate. If you're paying more than 10 cents a minute, here's how to save some coin:

1.  Cancel your subscription and port your number to a T-Mobile prepaid plan. I looked at a lot of different providers, and T-Mobile offers the most value for your cell phone dollar. Stores like Target will sometimes put the T-Mobile prepaid starter kit w/ phone on sale, so you can save even more with that bundle ($100 of minutes and the phone is free).

2.  Purchase a $100 card to qualify for gold rewards immediately. You'll get 1000 minutes and it will last for a year.

3.  Buy your refill cards from discounters like CallingMart.com, ephonecard.com or others. With applicable coupon codes, you can consistently save $10 on a $100 card.

With this method, you will pay an effective price of 9 cents a minute. The average entry-level plan from the major providers will cost around $40/month regardless of your usage. Forget in-network/my faves, etc.-- if you use less than 445 minutes a month, you will save money with this method.…

This also works in Canada on several carriers.  I am not sure about the discount cards but the general principle is the same.  I switched 6 months ago and I love it as I don't pay a system access fee and it costs me $10 a month and I get unlimited text in and out.  Good article, I agree 100%.
