Cloud services are services made available to users via the Internet from a provider's servers. Cloud services are designed to provide easy, scalable access to applications, resources and services, and are fully managed by a cloud services provider. It is a model for enabling ubiquitous, on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. Frequently offered cloud services are infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), desktops-as-a-service (DaaS), software-as-a-service (SaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS). Examples of cloud services include online data storage and backup solutions, Web-based e-mail services, hosted office suites and document collaboration services, database processing, managed technical support services and more.

Hi Experts,

I'm after a recommendation for Cloud storage that is accessible via Windows File Explorer.
My requirement is that it must not store the files on my Windows 10 PC.

hi,

I'm looking to setup a trigger alert service based on images from an ip security camera. I want to alert if some objects are present during a specific time window. The objects are bins, the time window is during the night, and i have put reflective material on the bins so you can easily see the marks on the IR of the camera, see attached.

example ip camera image
I could use iSpy to set this up, but i'd like to use a google script running the check. i can pickup the images with a google script, so i "just" need to be able to perform a check on the image. In my case the average brightness within a specified rectangle of the image would be enough info. I guess i need to call some kind of image processing tool for this, as i'm probably not looking to do all the coding from scratch.

Any suggestions? I'm new to scripting with google so any example code would be great.

Many thanks

Please help me understand the difference between scalability and elasticity as most people use these terms interchangeably. As far as my opinion is concerned I find difference between the duo.

I can call scalability as the ability of a system to scale up or increase the workload in its present hardware. Whereas elasticity is related to deployed-on-cloud applications and it involves dynamic addition of hardware resources as per demand.

Am I correct with the  difference? Can someone help me out with examples so that I can draw accurate point of distinction between these two terms?

Is it possible to customize the "look and feel", layout, etc for Amazon AWS's SAML Federation Landing Page?

https://signin.aws.amazon.com/saml

When we signin to our company "federation page" it redirects us to "https://signin.aws.amazon.com/saml" (as it should), which displays all of
our AWS accounts/AWS Roles to sign into. However, it's ugly and not really organized/categorized in any way (so you have to always scroll up/down
to find the account you want or do a "Ctrl-F").

I know we can customize our first landing page (company federation landing page), but can we change anything for the redirect/second SAML landing page?

I would like to check if data at rest encryption is turned on in my Isilon cluster.

From what I have read Isilon does it automatically with the use of SED (Self encrypting drives).

Is my understanding correct?

And how can I check if the drives on my system are self encrytping?

Also if we setup cloudpools then how can we make sure that data will be encrypted on the cloudpool side as well?

We are thinking of using cloudpools to archive data to a third party provided storage service.

The third uses Isilon cluster on their side as well to provide storage for use with cloudpool.

I have read that if cloudpool is being used with another Isilon as the archive location then no cloudpool license is required. Following article says "The CloudPools license for using either another Isilon cluster or EMC ECS will be free to customers." :-

What’s New in Isilon OneFS 8.0 | GeekFluent

Also, one of the EMC documentation mentions the same thing.

But the third party vendor is saying we need the license and the config options for cloudpool are greyed out in our system.

Please advise if this is possible without the license requirement?

Is it possible to know the usage cost for a single AWS instance using AWS CLI or any command line version please?

Scenario:
We have few AWS Instances running 24X7. Have introduced on-demand stop/start to save cost through AWS CLI automation (thanks to EE )
Now, would like to get the cost when it was running and get the cost when its on-demand to see the savings

or any suggestion around this would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

Hi

I've asked this question on the dropbox forum but not much response, so hoping someone here may be able to offer some insight.

I would very much like to understand more about what happens with Dropbox when the desktop application encounters a missing root Dropbox directory (using Windows 10 if that is pertinent but my query is about general Dropbox behaviour)

This could happen if one were to install Dropbox - against adivice from Dropbox - onto an external drive.
But this could also happen if for instance the Dropbox root folder on an internal disk were moved or deleted, perhaps accidentally.
(Note I'm not talking about deleting files inside the dropbox root folder - which would of course sync and remove them in the cloud. I'm specifically talking about the whole folder being missing, not just the contents thereof)

Is it true that if the Dropbox application cannot find the root dropbox folder - then it will delete all the files in the Dropbox?

First I would like to be sure that I have understood this correctly, and then if so, I am wondering why this apparently strange design choice has been made?

Many thanks for any input or clarification!

Hi,

We have a SmartThings hub and SmartThings power outlet.

There is a device plugged into the SmartThings power outlet.

Also, we have an Amazon Echo Dot connected with the SmartThings power outlet.

There is also a Google Home in the room.

Ideally, what we would like to happen is that if someone turns off the SmartThings power outlet via the app or Amazon Alexa, that the SmartThings power outlet would turn back on after several hours, example 4 hours.

This would mean the device connected to the smart outlet could only ever be turned off for 4 hours at most.

Is there a way of configuring this via SmartThings, Amazon Alexa or with some other type of smart power outlet?

Thanks,
Robbie

I am trying to add a host route as a test to my routing table in AWS to make it go over my DX connection. However for some reason I seem to not be able to get
the route to propagate as can be seen in the attached image. Traceroute fails to make it beyond even the first hop. What can cause this?

My company has 1TB of storage with OneDrive for Business with our Office 365 licenses. We have about 40 users and  I would like to setup 4-5 directories and then share them with specific users based on who I want to have access to what files. Using Sharepoint is not an option for us, we would like to keep this as simple as possible.

I am hesitant to create folders and share them from current user accounts because if the user goes away so does their shares. What is the best practice to setting up a OneDrive for Business file share? My thought was create a user with the license needed that is just a "dummy user" and setup the shares from that account that way we manage all shares from that one account.

Is there a better way to do this? Or any other suggestions? We just want to have some files be available to users traveling or at home that don't have VPN access. Nothing with "secure data".

Thanks

Hello Experts,

Can someone please let me know the major benefits of using Hashicorps Terraform instead of Azure ARM?

I know that Terraform is provider agnostic (it can be used with any cloud provider), and I'm aware that its more readable than Azure JSON script.

However, because I no desire to train on AWS, or on Google's Cloud platform, I would like to know what how I would benefit from learning and adopting Terraform if I plan on staying an Azure Cloud solution engineer?

Thanks

As I have mentioned in one of my previous questions, as a business were are now procuring more and more cloud services.
I’m trying to examine our procedures and governance to make sure that we procure cloud solutions that are fit for purpose and secure.
One of the controls I have thought of is to have a central repository of our cloud providers as we already have numerous different suppliers and I don’t think as a business we have one go to document that shows the provider of the cloud solution hosting our data, an emergency contact, location of data etc etc.  I have been reading through best practice guides and frameworks but I can’t see anything that suggested that this is something that should be implemented.
It seems like a good idea to me but can anyone point me in the direction to any best practice, frameworks, guides etc that support this to take to management as a bit of backup.
Is it something that is done in your own businesses?
Are there any real benefits to this and are there any risks to not implementing such a control?

Unless of course you feel this is not a worthwhile control to have in place, in which please feel free to say.

I’m about to start some work looking at how our business procures cloud services.
We are a large business with many different departments and an in-house IT team.

We already have some of our systems hosted via SaaS and these have followed correct procedures in terms of ensuring data is appropriately secured etc.
My concern is that some departments might be going off and procuring cloud services with no input or support from IT.  This obviously poses several high risk issues, especially when you consider some of the data may be private, confidential or commercially sensitive and as such needs to be carefully controlled.

I have two questions:
1)      How do other businesses mange the procurement of cloud services to ensure that appropriate security and governance issues have been considered and how can you control this to ensure that individual departments can’t just go and do this themselves with no IT/Business input.
2)      How can we determine if we have any data out there in the cloud that we are centrally unaware of and that have had no corporate input.  I’m thinking of analysing our finance system to determine if any payments have been made to cloud providers, this might not be easy as not all providers have obvious names.  Reviewing our contracts registers to identify any cloud providers.  Reviewing corporate credit cards for similar to see if anything has been purchased on credit cards.

The aim of this is to ensure there are suitable frameworks/procedures/policies…
