Cloud services are services made available to users via the Internet from a provider's servers. Cloud services are designed to provide easy, scalable access to applications, resources and services, and are fully managed by a cloud services provider. It is a model for enabling ubiquitous, on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. Frequently offered cloud services are infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), desktops-as-a-service (DaaS), software-as-a-service (SaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS). Examples of cloud services include online data storage and backup solutions, Web-based e-mail services, hosted office suites and document collaboration services, database processing, managed technical support services and more.

I saw a webinar on Datta and the ALTO 3 device.

I am always investigating backup and recovery solutions for small groups of computers.   The device seemed interesting.

Is this a good and reasonably priced solution?

Thanks

Hello All,

Good morning. I would like to see if I could receive any feedback on different cloud backup applications that allows collaboration, file sharing, FTP services, and syncs between PC's such (OneDrive, DropBox, etc.) We currently are exploring with OneDrive which performs all the functions, but with separate accounts created. Our thrust is to utilize a services that allows multiple users to apply changes to files, store information, while syncing the updates to the users workstations. I appreciate any feedback from anyone who has used or currently users different services that accomplishes these task or provides more functions.

I want to build up my knowledge & skills on Cloud technology.

I've got myself an Azure account and signed up for the free trial. I've also got myself a Windows 2016 VPS. I've also just setup my first (for me) client with Office 365 Business Essentials.

Years ago when I was learning about PC networks and Servers & email, I'd get 3 servers and run up a few NT domains, setup MS Mail & Exchange and get that all talking to each other, check mail flow and so on.

So what's the Cloud lab equivalent of that sort of thing?

I'm sitting here wondering, what's something really cool I setup that I could actually use in the real world?

The Azure training & intro videos say, you can set up Databases, test apps, run up Containers and so on, but I mainly support PC, file sharing, File Serving, email type clients, any databases or apps take care of themselves.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi All,

I have a client that would like a cloud solution for all their company data (word, excel docs etc) no databases or anything. They would also require folders to have relevant permissions set.

Their emails on are Office 365 but we don't want to use OneDrive due to the limitations on the file Sync Limit for each user, plus they don't want to use the web version of OneDrive to access the data.

We don't want the users to access a cloud server via remote desktop connection as the cost for office and user CALS would be a fortune.

Can anyone recommend a solution for the kind of setup, they would have around 60 plus users accessing the data from office all around the UK.

We would also want a secure connection to the cloud system, i.e. vpn for each user. We have been told about the RS models of the Synology range?

thanks again
Ryan

I have about 30 000 files which are a mix of jpg, png, mov, mp4 and potentially others.  Total size is around 70GB.  I've collected these into a single folder structure and left an upload to google photos running, and then used the desktop uploaded and left that for a week to upload any that were missed.

Now, I'm not sure which have uploaded successfully and which haven't.  The 'log' created during the upload is not helpful when working out which files haven't uploaded.  I've done a download of the photos from google photos through their backup system.  However, I can't just windiff between the two folders as they have different subfolder structures.  I've tried doing an xcopy of files to a single folder but some of the files have the same name (although different dates) and I may miss out on file-extensions that I'm not aware are in the listing.

Does anyone have any ideas or scripts I could run to make the problem easier to solve, or to come up with the final list of files that haven't uploaded?

Dear Experts
I am using sales force automation sugarcrm and we are evaluating the CTI integration either the complete cloud telephony or hybrid, one of the service provider has this hybrid where they do not charge for inbound and outbound call per minute unlike the complete cloud telephony instead they will host their server may be PBX and that is connected to their data center but application will used is of their platform, and calls will be routed to us directly from telco both the inbound and outbound unlike the complete cloud where calls are routed from their data centre.
please suggest the best solution to go for, pros and cons please. thanks in advance.

Hello

I have tried a number of times to reduce the size of my EBS volume. I keep running into problems.

I am using Centos 7.3.1611 and Plesk (set up through Amazon marketplace)

I have managed to copy all the files over from the old server to the new using the instructions here (https://superuser.com/questions/1123799/how-to-decrease-size-the-ebs-root-volume-of-the-rhel-instance-in-aws) - as well as similar other guides.

The only difference is because I am using xfs instead of ext4 I was unable to do the e2label

When I attach the new volume to the instance as /dev/sda1 it does not load. I cannot connect to it using SSH and websites do not load.

I am at a loss now. I have tried so many times. I made a mistake making my initial EBS volume size way too big and it is costing me quite a bit of money every day.

I am unsure if the problem is because I am formatting my drive is XFS. This was the format of the original drive when I first set up the instance. I have not been able to find a guide that details how to shrink an EBS volume that is formatted in XFS, they are all for ext4.

If any one could provide some assistance that would be much appreciated.

So we have about 12 cameras at our company that records all day every day.The 1TB drive in the Platinum dvr gets full super fast and we are unable to retreive old recordings from a couple of months back. So i was looking at some unlimited cloud backup solutions like like Crashplan and Backblaze. Now Crashplan is good as it allows me to not only backup all files but also all mapped network drives. is there a way for me to access the DVR hdd from my file server and somehow map it to my server so the backup software can upload all the recordings? Any alternatives? Any advice would be appreciated:)

Hi EE,

I'm trying to replace the paper check-in and manual name calling in our lobbies. I'm looking at http://www.lobbycentral.com and http://www.fmsi.com/lobby-management.

What paid cloud based solution are you using and how do you like it?

Thank you for the feedback!

I know that I can make free phone calls from Amazon Alexa Echo to another Elexa Echo, but what I want to research fromn my customers is the ability to uise a voice command to Alexa Echo to call a cell number or call a contact.

I want to research how this could be done.

I'm thinking integration things like a combination of:
  • VPN's to some service,
  • integration with a Personal Contacts app such as Gmail,
  • Use of IOT
  • ITTT

Anything thoughts and directions to get me started would be very helpful.

Thank you,
Robbie.

Hi, I have a small 3 user setup, we had an sbs server that got ransomware. We've restored the backup.
But I would like to look at removing a windows server from the network and move to a NAS that syncs in both directions with dropbox.
We aren't heavy users, but require local and remote access to the basic data.

Does anyone know of a NAS that will sync in both direction and not just do the NAS backup to dropbox ?

thanks for your time.

Hi Everyone,

I am hoping you can help me with this.

We have several cloud servers and are going to purchase more.

The hosting company does offer several options for back up.  One of the options is a server in the cloud to manage all of that but it's being stored in the same place?  My management wants to know our options for backing up in the cloud.

Here is what i don't get.

In trying to work on disaster recovery here, we are looking at backing up to the cloud, these servers I am trying to get more information on now are already in the cloud, so what is the recommended way that we should be backing up our cloud servers?  I can't back them up to here I don't think.

I hope that made sense, just didn't know how others are doing it.

Thank you,

Karen

Does anyone know of a way I can disable the cloud services within Office 2016.
Eg. Prevent users from signing into any cloud based services to open files or to save files.

Our organisation prohibits this type of functionality, we are implementing a Mac computer to our Windows based network but before I can allow our users to use the Mac this area needs to be locked down.

Many thanks in advance
