Cloud services are services made available to users via the Internet from a provider's servers. Cloud services are designed to provide easy, scalable access to applications, resources and services, and are fully managed by a cloud services provider. It is a model for enabling ubiquitous, on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. Frequently offered cloud services are infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), desktops-as-a-service (DaaS), software-as-a-service (SaaS) and platform-as-a-service (PaaS). Examples of cloud services include online data storage and backup solutions, Web-based e-mail services, hosted office suites and document collaboration services, database processing, managed technical support services and more.

Setting up Classic Printers with GSuite

I have 2 schools with one gusite domain schoolabc.com I have created a user named Print@schoolabc.com. Each school has 3 Printers and 2 copiers that are not cloud ready. I have a windows server in each location where i added these printers and copiers.  Some users have windows pcs and some with chromebooks.

I login to chrome browser on each of the servers as Print@schoolabc.com and add the printers/copiers then share them.  All is working fine until either the server reboots or other chrome issues. Then users cant print. Sometimes i have to open chrome and log back in, others where chrome is already open and logged in i have to log out of chrome restart it and relogin as the print user.

This is not reliable is there another way that to set this up without buying cloud ready printers?  How are you IT Admins for schools handling printing?

Hi all

I am helping a company that is about to "upgrade" their IT infrastructure. This is there current setup:

On Prem DC/AD - windows server 2008r2
On Prem File Server (250GBs) - windows server 2008r2
On Prem Server hosting internal application - windows server 2008r2
QuickBooks - windows 10 desktop
Exchange 365 - cloud

Im thinking to hell with on prem hardware for such simple resources (essentially they have a fileshare), and going with a solution like this:

Use a service like egnyte for a file server (Supports Azure AD SSO https://www-avl.egnyte.com/) ~ $8 a month per user
Use Azure AD Premium for MFA and SSO to apps such as egnyte, they dont use any GPO - ~$7 a month per user
Move the internal application to a hosted solution (already offered by provider) - unknown
QuickBooks operates on a users local so can just switch the file path of the database - no change in cost

In turn i would:
Scrap the on prem domain controller
scrap the on prem file server
scrap the on prem server hosting internal application

All these servers are due for upgrade, and we estimate costs being in the tens of thousands to keep them all prem or even use a hybrid azure solution. I could save them a load of upfront costs as well as maintenance/security, etc.

I'm going to be helping a non-profit youth organisation to modernise their IT systems, which includes moving their current 50,000-entry membership database (names/addresses/emails) from an old Access database into something that will simplify administration and enable concurrent use, etc, simplify mail merges and e-mail blasts etc. There are 150 staff, but whilst most of these will not need access to the member databases, I think we're still looking at around 25 staff who will, including the 4 IT staff.

Something that might help here is that they've recently been moved over to Office 365 (not sure which licence). There is an educational theme throughout the organisation's work, but I'm not sure whether they qualify for Education licenses. I will learn this at our first meeting.

The above does involve the personal details of children, so this will need to be a consideration.

Before the meeting, I just want to research a few options that might be available to them, therefore I would appreciate if you could suggest some options for what format their new database might take. The way I see it, here are some possible options...

# Putting them all as contacts in Office 365 (cut-down option for zero cost)
# Outlook Customer Manager (if they have Office 365 Business Premium)
# Getting something built in Microsoft Dynamic 365
# Buying an Azure SQL instance, and writing some sort of web-based front-end for it
# Buying a fully-featured cloud solution like …

What is a CASB?  What value can it provide?

What are some of the most popular/well respected CASBs?

Can CASBs inform ConMon/IR/Operational Visibility?

What cloud deployment and service models are best suited for a CASB?

How can CASB assist in security and compliance of:
                IaaS?
                PaaS?
                SaaS?
                 Private cloud?
What options exist for CASBs to integrate log data with current monitoring processes?

I am in the process of adding a second terminal server to my cloud environment, but I'm having one issue. We use Outlook as our email service, and would like to transfer all users emails over to the second terminal server with out having to  add each user manually through the outlook set up?

Also if there is a way to move the profiles over what files will we need?

Hi all

Working at school

I have request for primary school students to have access to emails but only be able to send internal and reciveve internal only. So block external emails alltogether

Heres what i have done,

Created a Universal distribution group in AD - Added the releveant groups to it i.e. primary school students

In office 365 created a new rule

- The recipent is located - Outside the organisation and the sender is member off (the distribution group i created in AD)

Do the following - delete the message without notifying anyone

After the above, i have been testing by sending email to a test student via my gmail account and test student can send emails and receive externally.

So seems like this is not working, any ideas?

one thing i noticed was in members of that distribution list, i am unable to locate the AD security groups, could this be the reason? my security groups seems are not automativally synced. I had to go in Attribute of the distribution list to make it sync to Office 365 not sure if its same for this

One of my clients brought up a question regarding becoming properly NIST 800-171 certified.

He had heard that in order to use cloud services one of the points of concern was ensuring that they were all hosted in datacenters in the US and not abroad. Apparently Office 365 Business has some parameters that allow you to ensure this is the case.

1) Anyone remember or know of this requirement?
2) And is there a way to specify in Office 365 to ensure its US based?

Thanks.

I use to use crashplan which was amazing.

Then I tried IDrive, their software is really bad. gets the computer stuck .

Then I tried carbonite which they choose which files to backup, I told them I want to backup everything, they said it's not possible.

So which online backup provider do you recommend ?

Hello,
I am new to dealing with file server systems and hybrid solutions. My company was looking at a dell emc that was going to have functionality that would take files based on rules and push them to the cloud. This would leave a pointer in place so if an end user would ever need to do anything with the file they would not know it was in the cloud, it would just take a bit longer for it to download. Unfortunately this won't work in our position as the emc product would have to be used as a san or as a file server. We are using it for a hybrid approach.
I would like to continue to use aws for our cloud storage, but what is out there to automatically do what we are looking for? I know that you can backup data to the cloud but I would like to keep IT's involvement low as we are a small team for a larger company.

We have a small business with 15 employees all using office365 and Onedrive. We have a mix of computers mostly Windows and some Macs. The users use OneDrive for storage. There are no servers and most users work remotely out of the office. The owner's don't want to avoid the traditional IT infrastructure and want to use the cloud since the want to keep things simple and run an slim IT . We had a issue recently where one user had deleted a few files/folders from OneDrive by mistake. I am an IT admin with good amount of onsite AD and Windows experience. Is there anyway of setting up and active directory / file server /domain setup using Microsoft Cloud? Not sure if that's even necessary or that if its too costly.  Also, I have to find a way of backing up OneDrive and also the Onedrive user folders. Suggestions and any directions are appreciated. Thank You,

Lambda backups via AWS - Currently the backup script in place does the backup perfectly fine however it does not add the label to the snapshot. We would like the backup to place the instance name to the snapshot backup so it is easy to understand. I believe such functionality must exist already as having a snapshot created with no label is not helpful, especially if that instance no longer exists.

Current Script:
import boto3
import collections
import datetime

ec = boto3.client('ec2')

def lambda_handler(event, context):
    reservations = ec.describe_instances(
        Filters=[
            {'Name': 'tag-key', 'Values': ['backup', 'Backup']},
        ]
    ).get(
        'Reservations', []
    )

    instances = [
        i for r in reservations
        for i in r['Instances']
    ]

    print "Found %d instances that need backing up" % len(instances)

    to_tag = collections.defaultdict(list)

    for instance in instances:
        try:
            retention_days = [
                int(t.get('Value')) for t in instance['Tags']
                if t['Key'] == 'Retention'][0]
        except IndexError:
            retention_days = 7

        for dev in instance['BlockDeviceMappings']:
            if dev.get('Ebs', None) is None:
                continue
            vol_id = dev['Ebs']['VolumeId']
            print "Found EBS volume %s on instance %s" % (
                vol_id, instance['InstanceId'])

            snap = ec.create_snapshot(

We are looking to pilot a cloud file sharing solution comparison test and I'm wondering if anyone can help me with their experience and what success criteria should we use ie. how do we know this is a success or not?

Some ideas: Preview capability, mobile functionality, security, synchronization, versioning, collaboration.  What else am I missing?

I am being tasked by my IT Director to research the steps that we need to do in order to start the CLOUD office 365 migration. I am being tasked to find a simple way of migrating or moving our users to the cloud. We are thinking of using MFA, but we found it more complicated and we have the current situation with our exchange that we need the fastest way of moving people to the cloud. We already have the office 365 account setup.
My questions are:
-      What should I do first in order to start the process? Are there any checklist that we have to follow?
-      We don’t want to use MFA at this time, but we might add it later. What should be the fastest method of authentication that I can recommend?

Hi,

I was navigating through my files on Dropbox.com using my Windows 10 Pro PC.

I found that after clicking on an image file I uploaded, I could switch between all my images with arrow keys.

However, this does not work for other files such as videos, PDFs, text files, etc.

I would like to for example, click on an image file and then use arrow key to switch to next file which could be video file, PDF, etc.

Is there a way of switching between all my files in Dropbox with arrows keys without having to back out of each file?

Thanks,
Robbie

Hi,

I have a Windows 10 Pro PC.

I have my Google Drive folder on my Windows 10 Pro PC synced with my online Google Drive.

I created a folder in my Google Drive folder on my Windows 10 Pro PC and the folder is not showing in my online Google drive.

What could be the reason for this and how can I resolve this?

Thanks,
Robbie

Please help me understand the difference between scalability and elasticity as most people use these terms interchangeably. As far as my opinion is concerned I find difference between the duo.

I can call scalability as the ability of a system to scale up or increase the workload in its present hardware. Whereas elasticity is related to deployed-on-cloud applications and it involves dynamic addition of hardware resources as per demand.

Am I correct with the  difference? Can someone help me out with examples so that I can draw accurate point of distinction between these two terms?

I would like to recognize sounds within an audio stream.  For instance, a doorbell.
Basically it would be the equivalent to using OpenCV to identify a face within a video stream.
So I am looking for the equivalent of an OpenCV library for audio (rather than images/video).  Or perhaps some cloud-based solution -- although I have not see anything on AWS or Azure.
