Conferencing Software

Web conferencing describes various types of online collaborative services including web seminars ("webinars"), webcasts, and peer-level web meetings. In general, web conferencing is made possible by Internet technologies, particularly on TCP/IP connections. Services may allow real-time point-to-point communications as well as multicast communications from one sender to many receivers. It offers data streams of text-based messages, voice and video chat to be shared simultaneously, across geographically dispersed locations. Applications for web conferencing include meetings, training events, lectures, or presentations from a web-connected computer to other web-connected computers. Popular titles include GoToMeeting, Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Lync, TeamViewer and Skype.

Veeam and MySQL: How to Perform Backup & Recovery

MySQL and the MariaDB variant are among the most used databases in Linux environments, and many critical applications support their data on them. Watch this recorded webinar to find out how Veeam Backup & Replication allows you to get consistent backups of MySQL databases.

Imagine that you have a Skype client on a Windows 10 laptop - wired 1Gbps connection to a LAN with no bottlenecks and 10Gbps to the Internet which is but 10% used at most. The one odd thing is that packets to the MS Edge server take 80ms to get there but 108ms to get from that edge to your PC. The question: could this asymmetry of send/receive latency result in higher than usual Maxiumum Packet Loss? How exactly is "Max packet loss" measured? What is the condition that causes Skype analytics to consider a voice packet "lost"?

A client has a separate construction site in the next state in a trailer. Both locations have broadband service.  They were asking about "video conferencing" between their meeting room for 10 people with 1 or 2 people at this remote site.

This would be once in a while, maybe 2 times a month for an hour at a time. At the main office they do have a 50" TV on the wall.

I looked on line for a documenting a spectrum of options but came up empty. That at least is what I envision is available?

I could see the low end being that they could use a laptop's webcam fed to the TV on the wall. Maybe spin the laptop sitting in the center of the table around to see the person speaking. And at the construction site, they could use a laptop with camera.

And the upper end could have several cameras that can be turned and zoomed, mics around the room and better quality speakers.

Does anyone have advice on options, prices and how to help them decide what they need and want?

Thank you.

I hear that waiting until the URL for a meeting arrives for first set up WebEx can be time consuming. So, is there a way to do this initialization beforehand?

Thanks.

I have a pair of C-level users who both experienced a problem at one of my sites. I'm trying to determine if it's a GoToMeeting problem (not my problem) or a phone problem (definitely my problem). You guys will give me a quick answer, I just know it. :-)

When the users join the audio portion of a GoToMeeting event from their Cisco desk phones (on my CUCM-powered phone system), right after the point where they enter their PIN number for the meeting, they are supposed to press the pound key "#" to join the audio part of the meeting. Every time each of them presses the "#" key on their desk phones, either the meeting or the phone hangs up the call. When they join using their cell phones it works fine.

This just started happening and no changes have recently been made to the phones or the CUCM settings. I'm told that it happened once before but was not reported, and that other occasion occurred several months ago but then the conditions returned to normal operation and they didn't see this again until yesterday.

Can I get some opinions on which party is responsible?

Thanks experts!

Hello,

We would like to setup some video conferencing between our remote sites which are connected via satellite, any suggested software solutions?  The following preferences would be ideal:

- Use UDP to send and receive stream so we may apply QoS
- If possible, have low bandwidth usage
- Low CPU usage if possible
- Tech Support from vendor if possible

We have attempted the following:

- TrueConf UDP multicast (TTL by default is 1, will not work over satellite link.  Reached out to their support to increase TTL)
- Open Source "Office SIP" with "Jitsi" client (kinda worked, but had high CPU usage)
- We are willing to purchase software if it works as required

Are there any other suggested solutions for video conferencing?

Thank you!

Prepare for your VMware VCP6-DCV exam.

Josh Coen and Jason Langer have prepared the latest edition of VCP study guide. Both authors have been working in the IT field for more than a decade, and both hold VMware certifications. This 163-page guide covers all 10 of the exam blueprint sections.

We have implemented Skype for Business 2015 PSTN conferencing without Enterprise Voice.

We do not use address book normalization because we have call centers that do not want unique phone numbers or extensions listed in their contact cards and all of them having the same phone number causes a mix up of user information among those users.

Users enter the phone number they want the conference to use when they choose the "Call me at" feature when joining conferences in the client phone options Work field.

This number is being cleared randomly.

Has any one seen this before?  If so what was the resolution?

We are looking for a video conferencing/desktop sharing tool which api would allow us to generate a link which we could send to the person who we would like to connect to our desktop and view our screen. What video conferencing/desktop sharing tool would you suggest for us in this situation? Besides being able to show my desktop to the person I have sent out the link to, I would also like to be able to have two way audio. It is important to note that we are not talking about a stand alone tool like GoToMeeting or Google Hangouts, but would like to create a web app that would generate this link via the video conferencing tools api which we then could send out via our own web app.

Whenever I create a Skype for Business Meeting, it has the same URL for every meeting I create.  So if there are overlap meetings, someone can join that meeting even though I didn't invite them.  The format is https://meet.domainname.com/username/PSN9R4BL

This url never changes, anyway to change this URL?  We are not using PTSN.

I appreciate the help!

Hi All,

Can anyone here please suggest how to do the 24x7 Skype conference call between two remote office location?

At the moment I'm using Free Skype to show the two meeting room from different cities so that they can just walk in and then arrange the time to discuss without having to contact IT to dial in the other meeting room PC.

But the problem with Free Skype is that you cannot leave the connection running for 24x7 or schedule it so that after the PC reboot, it automatically dials the other meeting room.

My requirements:
24x7 audio & video call between two computer with Webcam in two different cities.
automatically re-establish the connection if it is disconnected.

Does Skype For Business can do this or even the Free Skype can be scripted?

One of my users is trying to watch some webinars that requires the Adobe Connect add-in.  The issue is that after installing the add-in under their profile it does not work and they are prompted again to download and install.  If I install the add-in under my profile (I'm an admin), it installs correctly and works.  I tested by making the user a local admin of their machine and had no issue installing or using the add-in.  Once I removed the user from the local admins group I was back to square one.  Is there a way to make this work for a non-admin or is this a bug with Adobe's software.

Thanks for your assistance!

Has anybody been able to get the Sony EVI-D70 camera work with Skype on either a Windows or Mac?  I have tried the Startech SVID2USB23 and the Hauppauge USB-LIVE2 adapters using both S-Video and Composite video...no luck.  Skype will not pick up the camera.  It recognizes both adapters but won't connect to the video.  If I try the same camera with Google Hangouts, Webex, GoToMeeting and Join.Me, all those services find the camera with no problems using either adapters.  I have tried changing the webcam settings, downloading obscure drivers, etc., and nothing works.  I have tried Win 7, 8 and 10...no luck.  Mac OS 9 and 10...no luck.  If I call Sony, they say they are not responsible for Skype.  If I call Skype, they say they have a list of approved webcams on their site.  If you are using a non-approved webcam, they cannot help.

Please advise.

Hi
One of our staff is going to teach in a Classroom-A with 30 students. He will be using overhead projector and a screen and will be doing a PowerPoint presentation and using internet as well.
I would like to broadcast the same screen that is happening  in Classroom-A to Classroom-B
I would like the students in Classroom-B to hear what the teacher teaches in Classroom –A  and also when the students ask any questions from Classroom B this must be audible to the teacher in classroom B and when he answers this must be heard in classroom B

Both classroom have projectors and speakers and PC.
Please let me know how I can achieve this.
Any help would be great.

Hello All,

We currently have computers in each of our conference rooms that use a generic user account to automatically login. We currently map multiple network drives to these machines which allows users access to almost everything on the shares. We are looking for a way to keep these network drives mapped but require the users to enter their personal domain credentials anytime they open a shared drive. Most of these machines are left unattended which is cause for some security concerns.

Wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions about forcing windows to always ask for credentials when connecting to a network drive. Or if anyone would be willing to share how they handle this at their location.

Hi Experts,

I am using a Cisco SPA504G phone.
When I press the "1" button to respond to an interactive menu at some outside organization that announces something like "Press 1 for sales", my response doesn't register.
How can I configure the phone to generate the correct tones?

Regards,
Leigh

Currently we use Polycom VSX 7000 to do video conferencing. But a cable coming out from the speaker is worn out and can be broken into 2 pieces. Instead of buying another video conferencing system, we are thinking to use Skype. Since Samsung TV doesn't come with Skype with it any more, we can do the following:
1. Connect a laptop to Samsung TV via HDMI
2. Connect web camera to laptop and put it on Samsung TV

In this way, Skype user to Skype user should communicate no problem. Is there any recommendation of web camera for 22" Samsung TV? Just to be sure, the camera needs to be connected to the laptop, not directly to TV. Please confirm.

However, we still need to call non-Skype users. Is it possible to call non-Skype user (such as Polycom users with IP) using Skype or any possible way, without buying another video conferencing system?

Thank you very much in advance.

Hello EE,

We have an SX20 (Site 1) calling to or from SX20 (Site 2) across corporate MPLS.
Audio is fine
Video is fine at Site 1
Video is pixelating at Site 2
QOS is on the routers but there are no dropped packets so looking at the SX20 shows
at Site 1 Loss of Packets on Transmit.

What could cause this?
