I am looking to engage clients in a maintenance agreement (managed IT) starting Jan 2019.  I'm curious if it's common to include ransomware attacks/resolution in the flat monthly maintenance agreement with the client.  Where are the boundaries with flat monthly maintenance agreement vs charging for add/removes/changes (projects) to the environment?  A recent 12 user ransomware attack encrypted 2 out of 5 server and 7 out of approximately 20 workstations.  This was easily 30 hours worth of recovery time.  I obviously would like to exclude these catastrophic events out of the maintenance agreement and provide best effort security as we continue to make improvements to secure these environments against future attacks.  Time, money, staff constraints on both sides limit these things from being expedited.  Anyway, any advice on the legalese disclaimer?  Any other liability that I should be concerned that is or isn't cover with a related legal statement here?  Does a business associate agreement protect the IT individual from these disasters?

Hello Experts,

My customer Linda is the owner of a resource mailbox in a Exchange 2016 infrastructure on Prem which name is Resource-Capital.
 
When she tries to share the Contacts for this account, she is able to add the user, but when selecting the permissions levels, in this case “Reviewer”, she gets the following error message. Please, refer to screenshot attached

If she selects any other like Author or Pcontributor, she is able to add and save the permission settings but when tries to add the Contact folder, the user cannot see any of the contacts.  

I had the Client try from another PC and we experienced the same results.  We verified the owner’s permission and they stated that she had full access and should be able to grant access.  She has in the past and has many other users who currently have access. All this started a month ago.

Can someone please provide instructions step by step with tons of screenshot to resolve this incident? Please, be advised the user is trying to share a contact from a shared mailbox resource contact

I got an old heater furnace.  Probably as old as my house.  Which is state "approx 1915" in city hall records.  Wondering if worth repairing or get a new furnace, that will be a pretty pricey project.

I attached a few pictures.  I can fire up the pilot.  However, when switching to the burner the pilot shuts off.  Also notices the pilot flares a lot larger than usual.  I replaced a thermocouple last year.  That didn't help.

Any suggestion or maybe someone knows another 'hvac' specific forum?

Due to the fires in CA we are in smoke and keep our windows/doors closed.  Air quality is terrible.
 Wonder if anyone suggest a good air purifier for home/office with approx 1000sq ft space.

We are restructuring the ownership of documents with new staff/teams being formed.

We currently have IT Applications teams (who run IT Quality Management & still running it), IT Security Governance
(new team), IT Infra Ops.

In general practice (or commonly adopted out there), which team or person owns the 4 documents below:
1. IT Application Delivery Framework :  applications PM, IT Security governance, IT Quality Managemt, or ?
2. Vendor & Contract Management Framework : applications team, IT Security governance, IT Procurement or ?
     (a mix of IT applications, infra, security vendors but most of the vendors are applications vendors)
3. Project Management Methodology : applications PM, IT Quality Management, IT Security governance or ?
4. DR Plan : We don't have a DR team;  so hv to choose betw IT Ops, applications team, IT Security governance or ?

Any authoritative references (eg: NIST, big four consulting firms papers) will be helpful.

Hi Experts,

One of my customers is having some trouble with her Skype conferences.

When joining by phone and entering the conference id, the automated system states, ”Sorry, I cant find a meeting with that number.”

Any ideas as to why this may be happening with her conferences and what I may do to do troubleshoot?

I have been working as a consultant for a number of years,    I have a diverse and pretty extensive background, I basically do server\desktop\network\firewall\VPN\Exchange hosting\DR\Business continuity down to desktop preventive maintenance, builds etc.. Basically whatever is needed.

One of my larger clients has concerne if I were to die where that leave them.  From day one due to my background of managing IT, and staff for companies with multiple location and being a senior IT person prior to consulting. I always put in place what I could to minimize exposure.  I do the same with the current client base.  Admin passwords are on file, all prod servers always covered by contracts with an SLA of on site in 4 hours etc.

This is a difficult one to answer.  They are under the false impression they would be safer with a larger consulting company. They will never get this level of responsiveness/expertise/service/or price.   I would love to grow the business and bring on someone else, or possibly acquire another consulting business, do I try to find a commissioned sales rep?  Or even take over accounts of a small consulting business in the area where the owner was close to retiring, but for the life of me, I am not sure how to find consulting businesses that might be for sale, or someone in a similar situation that I can trust, and would not go after our clients etc.

Does anyone know what's the regular humidity should be in the server room?  Server room in North California it goes up to 70-75%.  I had to bump it up otherwise getting slammed with alerts.

Does it have to do anything with temperature.  Temps keeps normal 68F.  Would it help with humidity if I lower the temperature?

Hi guys, non-technical question here.
 Does anyone have any format or an example for the new hire justification.  Instead of asking management "hey can I hire someone to help me, I am working 12 hrs per day"
Maybe someone has previous example or a set format showing the following things or similar:

1) Justify why you need help.
2) Explain your current situation, hours and work load
3) Tell how a new hire/resource will benefit the company, for example, improved revenue by 5%, completion of projects 25% faster, improved customer satisfaction rating, etc.
4) Justify the cost and how the proceeds will offset that person.
5) Show the long term strategy of this person and how this person fits into the organization
6) Show your new role on you being the manager and how this will free up your time for more strategic goals
7) Finally, show how this new hire aligns with company strategy and direction and how your department will be able to meet or exceed those goals.

PLEASE READ ENTIRE QUESTION--I am looking for a recommendation from someone who had had FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE with software for an electrical contractor; this electrical contractor works in both the commercial and residential markets and does work on new as well as existing properties. They are looking for a solution that incorporates construction accounting (G/L, A/R, A/P, etc.), a service module for work orders, scheduling, dispatching, as well as T&M billing (mobile tracking included), along with a mobile app that includes invoicing & payments. They also want project and materials management for their bigger commercial projects, and proposal management that can easily be turned into actual jobs.  PLEASE DO NOT SEND ME LINKS TO SITES THAT COMPARE SOFTWARE as I have already done that myself--I have looked at a lot of sites that contrast and compare supposed constructor specific software but when I call and speak to these companies most are general purpose companies and DO NOT have the special and unique features needed in the electrical construction, maintenance and repair business. That is why I am asking for recommendation only from those who have had first-hand experience with actually using and/or implementing software in this very specific industry. They DO NOT want a solution that calls for combining solutions from many different companies, Thank you very much for your time.

What power parameters do I need to know before bringing the equipment into the server room?  Want to make sure I plug things in and not kick the breakers.
I'm bringing two large switches, two large firewalls, and UPS.
Do I need to ask electrician for watts available, or Amps, or VAC?

Does anyone know what's the maximum distance (if any) for the key readers in the building?  From the electronic panel to the key reader.  
We use keyfobs for the building.  Sometimes one or two doors key readers (out of 5 total) do not react to the keyfobs.  And that those that farthest away from the electronic panels inside the Telco room.   So my suspicious would be a distance limit but I would be completely wrong.
Any knowledge in this?  Thanks.

Linux admin supporting Macs.  I have a good Linux helpdesk candidate that will be require to support Macs in the future as well.  Would that be a huge knowledge curve for a good Linux admin to support Macs?  He claims almost 0% mac knowledge.
I know Linux guys very intuitive supporting Networking stuff (Cisco, etc.)  Not sure about Mac OS tho.

Looking for a small business IT consultant to fill in for me when I am away on vacation or attending seminars.  I have a small client base of 6 small businesses that may need attention while I am out of town.  I currently use Projent remote support for this need.  However, should there be a need for an onsite visit they do not have local availability since they are based in California and all my clients are located in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

Even though Projent support is great, the fact they cannot offer onsite support if needed to could a major issue.

I also tried working with another local IT consultant that is also a one man shop, and we scheduled all the days I would be gone so he could cover for me during my absence.  I then contacted him to remind him to cover for me since I was going to be out of the country, and he stated he could not help even though we discussed it prior and agreed on everything.  I even was going to cover for him as well.

Let's just say this experience was horrible.  I am trying to avoid that this year.

I also contacted other IT support companies within the area, they either would not be able to assist but were willing to take the client.  Another thing that concerns me is if the person or company decides to try and solicit  their services over mine therefore taking my client.  I do have a non compete clause that should minimize this sort of situation, but its not fool proof.  Any suggestions...

Does anyone know how to resolve Family Plan issue with Uber?
My daughter is on my Uber family plan.  She's a pre-med student in Michigan and I am in CA.  For some reason Uber keep blocking her and I keep adding her number.  The number getting added but then its getting removed.  Then she's calling me to call her Uber from out of state :)  No Lyft is available in her area.
I cannot find a number to talk to customer service.
Anyone had to deal with that and have any suggestion?
