My client wants an all-in-one color laser printer for his home office. Running Windows 10 on a Dell Optiplex desktop computer. Up to $400.  Maybe a bit more if one stands way above the rest. No need for fancy functions.  He needs ease of use and reliability. Has to sit on his desk at home.

I started to research on my own. I’ve been at this a long time. I got my first Internet id in 1988 while working at IBM. I’ve come to the conclusion that for something like this printer Internet searches have become useless. One can go to a dozen sites, each offering recommendations, and see no overlap.  One can cross reference their recommendations at Amazon, comparing customer reviews, and come to no conclusion which printer to buy.

I have two additional questions.
1. Have you come to the same conclusions, that on many topics Internet research is now useless?
2. If not, how do you search for products and assess their value?

Thanks,
Al

I just added a new PC to my system.  I am using a Dell monitor that I had from before.
The screen quality is not all that good.  Is this a problem of the video card on the motherboard
or is it a problem of the quality of the monitor?  How do I determine which it is?
thanks,

Hi
I have a Dell R220 Server running Windows 2012 with a PERC H310 Adapter
The server had 2 x 2TB hard drives in a RAID 1 array
We have replaced the drives with 2 x 8TB drives

Steps:
Replace Disk 0:1 with 8TB drive
Boot into OS and launch Open manager
On the Physical Disk windows, select the available task to convert to RAID type disk
On the Virtual Disks Page, select the available Task to replace Member Disk
Select Disk 0:0 as source and 0:1 as destination.
Wait for Rebuild to complete

Replace Disk 0:0 with 8 TB drive
Repeat process as above but choose 0:1 as the source and 0:0 as the destination
Rebuild now complete

Within the Physical Disks page, Physical Disk 0:0 shows as Online with no available task
The properties of disk 0:0 show
Capacity 7,451.00GB
Used RAID disk space 1,862.50GB,
Available RAID Disk Space 5,589.00GB

Physical Disk 0:1 shows as Ready with available tasks to Assign Global Hot Spare or Convert back to non-raid. The properties of Disk 0:1 are
Capacity 7,451.00GB
Used RAID disk space 0.000GB,
Available RAID Disk Space 7,451.50GB

The Physical Disk page shows State Degraded, Layout RAID-1, Size 1,862.50GB
Available Tasks are Delete, Assign/Un-assign Dedicated Hot Spare, Rename, Change Policy and Replace Member Disk.

The Raid has obviously worked as it replicated the drives both times and in the Windows Disk Management console the Drive shows as one drive so all good there.

I am still left though with only …

Client has Dell Inspiron 3480 AIO all in one..24" screen....about 2 months old...
Very slow boot....startup to BIOS screen is about 50 seconds...
From boot screen to windows loaded about 2 min 30 sec...
And another 2 minutes before you can really do anything on the comptuer...
Complains very slow....I agree...
I've gone thru it and cleaned up what I could...not really making any difference...

It uses i5 8265 U  1.6 Gb  8th Gen.....8 Gb RAM....Win 10 Home...

What are the possibilities of replacing the CPU with something faster...???

We have talked about replacing the SATA drive with an SSD....I would expect about a 25%
increase in speed....but I think that is still going to be too slow...

Suggetions appreciated....

Hi I have a Dell Perc 740p RAID card I just put in a computer, the computer recognizes it but I can't get in with ctrl + R.  I see the post message, but this one dosen't say press ctrl + R to get into Bios.  it says...

"PowerEdge Expandable RAID controller BIOS copyright AVAGO Technologies"

Then Initializing virtual drives, then goes on it's marry way.

Question: is there another way to get into Bios?  Am I dooing something wrong?

I setup a VMware ESXi host on a Dell server using the iDRAC port as the VMware management interface.  I used the VMware Dell 6.7 ESXi hypervisor.  I can connect to the hypervisor and both the SSH shell and the web management come up fine.  However, for some reason it will not allow me to load a guest OS.  The problem goes away if I use a standard NIC.  Using the iDRAC would be our preferred method in our environment.  Has anyone else ran into this issue?

Hi I have a HighPoint RocketRAID 3740A that I put in a desktop computer, it is a PoweSpec computer with a Z390 Pro4 P44.00E motherboard/bios.  when it boots I don't get the choice to go into the HighPoint bios.   I tried to hit H+ctrl but it just goes into the Z390 bios.

I have been buying this same computer same bios and installing Dell Perc H740s and they work fine.  Someone on EE mentioned the HighPoint is a great choice too and figured I would try it out.

Question, is there something I have to enable or disable in the Z390 bios to get it to work?

I have a new Dell All-in-one computer, I do not think it has a built in webcam, but I am not sure.

Question 1 - How can I determine if it has a webcam?

Question 2 - If it DOES NOT, how can I get one that will clip onto the top of the screen? I have been to Amazon, none say anything about that. Or is that "old fashioned"?

Thank you.

Hi

We are replacing our virtual infrastructure  and  have procured Dell EMC ME4024 and PowerEdge R640 Server.
10x 1.8TB HDD 10K 512e SAS12 2.5
6x 1.92TB SSD SAS Read Intensive

We have hired an implementation engineer to setup this Storage.

Is it possible to set Tier at LUN levels ?

If this is possible, will it be a good idea to set up the First LUN  as SSD Tier , so that I can run SQL server application on it ( High performance application)
My SQL server VM size is 300Gb

And Second LUN as All Tier ( with Spinning disks) non-performance applications.

Also what raid levels i need to set up for the first LUN and second LUN?

Please suggest what is the best way of setting up this.

Any help and sugessions would be great!
Thanks

Dell XPS 8930 W64/Win 1809

Headphones don't work when plugged into front or back audio jack. Audio is Reatek HD. Have twice uninstalled/reinstalled Realtek driver. Only way headphones work is to plug them in before you boot...and leave them. If you pull the earphones plug out and reinsert, the jack does not work again. The sound controller is something called WAVE audio.  Now when I want to use earphones, I have to plug them in and restart the computer.

Any other ideas, besides mines?
Look into increasing the video RAM, like maybe purchase an external video adapter

I have a dell desktop, all in one, Windows 10.

I have connected it to my Samsung TV with an HDMI Cable, all that works great.

But I cannot control the sound of a playing video. On my computer, volume is set to the max. On the TV, increasing or decreasing the volume (from the remote) has NO effect.

How can I fix this?

Thanks

Working in Sage Contractor 100 2018, when right click (Copy/Paste) client will get an error message Eagle_Error01.png
After this, they will have to run the quick repair on office 2013 Home & Biz.  If they run full repair, it will remove Office 2013 and install Office 365 (Which they don't have, nor want... a license of).  I fully remove Office 365 and reinstall Office 2013.  But the error is getting more common.  Sage support has no idea what could be wrong (They have an active support contract with Sage).

The computer is new this year (Precision 3630) March 27, 2019.  Windows 10 Pro, and all updated drivers from Dell (Including BIOS), Norton Security Deluxe.  No other programs are having any issue, and the computer runs very fast all the time (They report).
