We have a client doing upgrades to Windows 10 from Windows 7 now, past the free upgrade time. However they seem to be upgrading OK and also activating without any issue.
We recommended to replace systems with Windows 10 licenses however the manual upgrade looks like its working fine.

Has anyone else done this?
Can you foresee any issues?
Is it even legal?

I can not find any information out, even from Microsoft direct.

Just specing out a server, single host to run 4 VMs, Going with a Dell Poweredge Perc h 730p.   with 2 GB of RAM on the controller.  How much does the RAM on the controller really impact performance?  Nothing is tremendously I/O intensive.  Would there be a substantial difference if I could update it to 4GB?

Thanks!

I have a client with PowerEdge T410 with just about 1.6 TB of space to back up and using a USB 3.0 backup device, and it takes about two full days to backup the unit.  If I could install a PCI or PCIe USB 3.0 card into the server, the backups would happen much faster.

I've read that there will be incompatibility issues with installing such an adapter into the server.

Can anyone comment on how this can be done successfully?

Thanks much.

I have Dell MD 3200 which is the SAN (Storage Area Network) for 2 server Dell Power Edge R510.
I have never worked with the SAN before.
The Situation:
I can ping this SAN with its IP Address, but I can not Remote Desktop to it (Note: I am not sure whether it is the case to every SAN).
I wander how I can configure this SAN (as I cannot see it; there must be “something to be used” to let me see or configure this device or a software?).

The GOAL: The SAN should be reset to factory default (so I will know the default ID and password)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
tjie

Hi,

Finally, My Dell Power Edge R 510 is running Windows Server 2019 (actually, it is a straight forward installation).

Now, I want to install VM machines in this server.

As Dell Server, my experience in VM machine is also limited.
Can somebody direct me what would I do to create the Hyper V server 2019?

Thanks,
tjie

The user suddenly got a message saying that the power adapter for their Inspiron 15-3565 Laptop  couldn't charge their computer.
Dell Charging Error
I had them shut down the Laptop.  When it came back on, there was no message anymore.  HOWEVER, yesterday they shut down and that didn't help.

Is the problem with the adapter, the motherboard, Windows 10?

How do I proceed?   Replacement 3rd party adapters are cheap enough, if that's the problem.

Thanks.

What is the process to successfully update the firmware on a Dell Wyse D90D7? I have been unsuccessful in updating the embeded Windows 7 OS. The most recent Build Number 7092 15 Apr 2019 is what I tried to use to re-image.

I have manually updated a few Dell OptiPlex workstations using the Microsoft update tool to upgrade from 1809 to 1903.  Everything was working fine prior and everything except Remote Desktop Connection is still working fine.  The boxes that I  upgraded I can access via SCCM remote services, but I can't remote desktop from my box to one that I performed the update to.  I haven't changed the group policy or anything like that and have check all the "basic" requirements for remote desktop.  Any ideas on what my issue could be?

Host OS - Server 2016 Standard with Hyper-V Role only.
Original VM - Windows 7 x86 Ultimate
Attempting to update to Windows 10 Pro Build 1903.
Host Server is a Dell ProLiant R430, single Xeon CPU 6GB RAM

I am attempting to upgrade a Windows 7 VM to Windows 10 and am getting the:
"this pc's processor doesn't support a critical feature (nx)"
error.
I have had a look throug the Host's BIOS and cannot find any mention of Execute Disable, DEP etc etc that I have found looking for similar issues regarding physical updates.
Any suggestions gratefully received as I am trying to avoid having to re-install all the existing Windows 7 applications.
The upgrade worked perfectly on a physical Windows 7 Workstation.
A clean install of a Windows 10 VM works OK.

Cannot upgrade Office 2010 to 2013.  The upgrade starts but fails with error 1935.   I've been Googling solutions all morning with no luck

The computer is a Dell Optiplex 3060 with Win 10.   I uninstalled all pre-installed Office products and installed Office 10 with no issues.

I am hoping someone on EE has actually got this to work

I have a PERC H330 card and would like to build an 18TB raid 5 array out of four HGST 6TB SAS disks. Two disks are 512b, 6Gb/s and the other two 4KB, 12Gb/s.

For some reason though I cannot add them into the same array. They work in separate raid 1 arrays but that isn't what I want.

Is it perhaps the case of an old firmware version on the PERC card (4.290.01-8335) or I simply cannot combine the two types of disks together?

Simple Question (if there is such a thing)

I have a Dell Inspiron with a 4TB drive and Windows 10 HOME.  Only 2 TB are recognized.

Question:  Is the system limited by the Operating System, or by the Hardware?

Hi,
I need to install Dell R510 with the OS Win Server 2019.
Per suggestion one of the Expert of EE, I have to download the BIOS of a Dell machine R710.

I am not sure here; I have a Dell server R720; is it workable?
I have already EXTRACT the Bios of R720 into a USB Stick.

I have here with me the OS of Windows 2012, 2016 and 2019.

I am still confused here:
I will try to install the OS at R510 by deploying the OS;
I will put The Windows 2012 OS; then, where can I INSERT the above USB stick which has the BIOS of R720 in it? What key should I press or select?

Is there any other driver should I download from Machine R720?

Thanks,
tjie

Hi,

We have a Dell Latitude E5430 laptop with Windows 10 installed on it.

Someone's child was using the laptop and now the laptop seems like it is forever in Airplane Mode.

When clicking on "Wi-Fi", it turns to ON for 2 seconds then turns off as Airplane Mode is on.

Airplane Mode is set to "ON" and the option for clicking on "Airplane Mode" is greyed out and can't be clicked on.

We would like to try and fix the WiFi as it worked before this.

I have done the following to try and fix this issue:

1. Connected with Ethernet cable to internet (Internet works fine this way but shows Airplane Mode still on)
2. Updated laptop with most recent Windows 10 updates
3. Updated driver for "Airplane Mode Switch Collection"
4. Updated driver for  WiFi network adapter we use
5. In "Device Manager", disabled then re-enabled "Airplane Mode Switch Collection"
6. In "Device Manager", checked off option for WiFi network adapter we use; "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
7. Uninstalled "Airplane Mode Switch Collection" then restarted laptop to reinstall this software
8. Uninstalled WiFi network adapter we use then restarted laptop to reinstall this software
9. Tried using Network troubleshooter but no solution

Any ideas on what could be done to fix this WiFi issue?

Thanks,
Robbie

At present I have a Dell workstation 5820. I am using a Creative Labs Soundblaster Z card. I am trying, mostly unsuccessfully to make it interface properly with my Plantronics MX10 headset amplifier. I cannot seem to get enough output level from the MX10 to bring the recording level with Audacity up to normal. I have tried many settings. Perhaps the solution lies in a dedicated interface with the analog copper pair on one side and several inputs and outputs available such as audio in and out. USB connectivity and whatever else that might make life easier. That way I could simply use the Plantronics MX10 for the Supra binaural headset that I use alone and have the new device to the other chores. I need 1. To be able to record calls naturally  and; 2. Be able to play output from my computer over the phone line. There are SO many devices that claim the world but I have no idea which one to choose to try. I would ONLY buy it from Amazon since returning an unsatisfactory product is easy. I do not need call time and date logging. I actually MIGHT have everything I require at this time but making it all work together has proven elusive to say the least. The present phone system I have is an Avaya Partner system with 18D desksets. The MX10 connects between the deskset and the handset in series.

I am looking to build a cheap storage device using a DELL perc H330 PCIE RAID adapter and a few HGST 6TB SAS disks.

I tried using a couple of older (6+ years) desktop motherboards but neither of them would allow the RAID controller as a boot device.

Can you please recommend something relatively cheap that's proven to work in this scenario? UK market preferrably, can be second hand.

I have 2 PCs that are both connected to the same WiFi network.  Both PCs are on the same work network, both have the same workgroup name and I have toggled network sharing off and on - on both of the devices.

Neither can ping the other.  However, where it gets strange here... If I run simultaneous cmd pings of each other, #1 PC starts successfully pinging the other, but stops if I stop the ping attempts from the other PC to it.  #2 PC pings never resolve.

Both devices are Dell Optiplex 3030AIO and on Windows 7 Pro, Service Pack 1
