I have a Dell XPS 8500 with an i7-3770 whose motherboard was bricked by a Dell BIOS update.  I've since purchased another board, but am having problems with RAM.

The original board had PC3-12800 RAM modules.  From what I read, these modules (as well as the PC3-10600) should work.  When I put them in the replacement board, I get 4 beeps, indicating a RAM problem.  I've tried some Crucial brand RAM which was listed as compatible with this model and get the same results.  I've tried a single module in each of the slots, one at a time.

The board does work if I use a PC3-10600 module.

I've upgraded to the latest BIOS and reset it to defaults.  I don't see any settings in the BIOS that have anything to do with timing.

I can go ahead and purchase the slower RAM, but I'd prefer not to.

Is this board defective or am I missing something?

Just wondering if there is a way to not redirect away certain hosts/subnets and redirect the rest of the internet traffic using policy based routing on a Dell switch.  This post has a similar issue but not sure what the solution might be (or if there is anyway):  https://www.dell.com/community/Networking-General/S4048T-ON-PBR-redirect-list-is-DENY-possible/td-p/5178333.

Thank you in advance!

I'm configuring a VMware vSAN  on a few Dell PowerEdge R720s with a PERC H710 Mini RAID Controller (embedded) running vSphere 6.5.  I'm trying to surface the drives (2 SSD and 6 HD) but there are restrictions on the H710 not allowing me to convert to non-RAID.  VMware documentation indicates that drives must be set up in a "pass through RAID" configuration.  So, do I get another RAID controller that allows for no-RAID drives or is there a way of creating Raid 0 drives or can I mirror the 2 SSDs (RAID 1) and RAID the other 6 HDs.  Maybe I'm old school but I tend to trust controller RAID more than software raid, but it's required so not sure I can get around it.

Hi,

We are having a new Dell ME4024SAN specced out and they have quoted for 10k SAS disks( 10x1.8 HDD 10k 512e SAS 12 2.5) and also they have added 2.62TB ssd for auto tiering.
If I go with 15k SAS dHardisk  and will it make noticeable speed difference.
Any  help much appreciated
Thanks

I have a EMX CX4-120 that is showing both SPS have cable faults (They don't its a bug in the Flare version we are running)

there is a manual fix that can fix it but needs an EMC support contract to find it our or upgrade to EMC CX4-Bundle-04.30.000.5.526/EMC CX4-Bundle-04.30.000.5.529 to fix it.

We don't have any support on this CX4 and it maybe the end of it, and there is nothing wrong with it apart from this bug that takes the write cache offline.

Can anyone help?

Hi

I have been looking to replace our storage infrastructure. One of the IT companies suggested Fujitsu DX100 S4 would be suitable for our environment.

Please can you let me know a equivalent storage model in DELL and HP.

Thanks

Hi, i am trying to set up a Load balanced web server cluster.

I have configured it to use IGMP Multicast, now this works great for machines on the same VLAN as the web servers, i can drain roles and the other server takes over etc.

However, only our machines on the same VLAN can access the website. Any other machine in another VLAN times out.

I am using Dell N3000's in a stack with 4-5 VLANs. How can i configure IGMP to move support the other VLANs?

I am going to have a read also, but I would appreciate some advice as this is a live network (i wont do any changes until the weekend just in case)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi

We are going to replace our ageing servers. I have been quoted for 2x Dell Power Edge servers R640  and the LAN card on this server is 1Gbe Base T.
To connect the San and Host, we will be using SAS 12GBps HBA.
At the moment the core switch on our network is 1GbE and planning to connect the Host and Core switch with 1GbE copper connection

In a next 5 Months I am planning to replace my core switch and purchase a 10Gig core Switch and during that time will the ethernet card auto-negotiate between 1 and 10-gigabit  on the Dell Power Edge servers R640 ?

Please suggest  and any help would be great.

Thanks

I have a Windows 10 Dell SFF.  I am trying to add Chrome Shortcuts to the c:\users\public\desktop.  When I log in with a user having local administrator rights I do the following:
1. Go to Chrome
2. Add preferred URL
3. I create a shortcut
4. The shortcut appears on the desktop
5. I copy the shortcut to the c:\users\public\desktop folder ( I now have two on this desktop, one local and one public)
6. I log out of this user
7. I log in with a new user
8. The shortcuts appear on the desktop without an icon
9. They also have a strange path
10. The shortcuts open up to a Google Chrome empty page
11. When I look in the c:\users\public\desktop on the new user the same shortcut appears with no icon and does not work
I have actually tried this with a local administrator on the box and they seem to work for that user.
I want these shortcuts to be available for ALL users on the box.
Any help would be appreciated.

Server is R810 with four MD1200's attached.  Oracle db on it.  System had been running fine until last Thursday when it signaled a bad drive on the first md1200. We hot swapped it out and the rebuild appeared to go normally.  However, enen though its led light is normal green and the system states that it's online, performance is noticeably slower.  Also, I noticed that the led's on the hot spare of that md1200 are BOTH solid green while the other three md1200's only have the top led green (and the bottom led is off).  Does this suggest that it's still in some kind of rebuild almost a week later? CPU, RAM and network all seem to check out.  Also, non Oracle jobs are slow, so probably not Oracle.

My OS is win 7 enterprise and I am using a Dell 6500 laptop 64 bit.  From time to time now I get a missing dll whenever I boot up.    tried to fix it using a dll-files client that I downloaded, but the problem persists.  the files are :: MSVCR100.dll or MSVCR120.dll.  Hope the Experts can please explain what is happening and how to remedy this.  My anti virus is Security Essentials and antimalwarebytes which is  out of date, and I did not update it,  as it conflicts with Security Essentials.  Thank u and regards.

Dell Server Drive blinking green/amber alternately regardless of what drive in install in that bay..
I know this is suppose to be an indicator of impending failure, but why does it blink this way when I install a replacement?
I tried resetting the adapter to factory, and that worked for a little while, but then reverted to this behavior again.
I have another bay to use, but just curious if someone else had seen this before.
Thanks as always.

Hi,

I have a server running Vmware ESXi on a Dell Power Edge R510.  It's setup with RAID with 4 10K SAS drives.  The capacity is 1.64 TB.  All 4 of the SAS drives have been recently replaced.  I'm not at all familar with Vmware as I've always used Hyper-V and other VM solutions.  There's only on VM setup running Server 2016.  Xeon X5675 (8 processors) with 48 GB RAM allocated to the VM.  The host has 64 GB RAM. 12 CPUs.  A software vendor (I'll call vendor A) recently upgraded their software on the server and it looks like they're using SQL 2012.  They have another db on the server that also uses SQL 2012 well call from vendor B.  There were a bunch of log errors from vendor B's database.  10 GB worth.  They cleared them but their storage benchmark said that the write speeds to the storage were around 22 Mbps.  On 10K SAS drives that seems excessively slow.  I've logged into the ESXi navigator and have spent a few hours going through all of the settings in there.  Is there a way that I can test if all four of the SAS drives are working properly?  Under Storage, Datastore01 and Monitor, there are a few lines from June 13th (nothing listing anything after that).

Device naa.614xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx performance has improved. I/O latency reduced from 47132 microseconds to 14417 microseconds.      Thursday, June 13, 2019, 03:10:40 -0700      Info

I have a Dell Power Edge T620 Server, with Microsoft Server 2012 and Hyper-V server service installed. On my Hyper-V server I have a DC, Exchange server, File server, app server and 2 servers for a DNS service called Cisco Umbrella. Everything has been fine, but all of a sudden these servers are causing the Dell server to restart randomly.

I've logged into the Dell Server administrator and no errors, I've checked for errors in event viewer and nothing. I updated all drivers and firmware, I've made sure all window updates are done, but these servers still causing problems. This is the only error I receive right before the server restarts.

forwarder-va2' has encountered a fatal error.  The guest operating system reported that it failed with the following error codes: ErrorCode0: 0xB76FD775, ErrorCode1: 0x40000000, ErrorCode2: 0xBF8D7408, ErrorCode3: 0xB774C000, ErrorCode4: 0xB774ED5C.  If the problem persists, contact Product Support for the guest operating system.  (Virtual machine ID 18468AB3-F650-4EF7-B33E-F00B85FA1748)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have a good day.

Trying to install SERVER 2012 R@ or Server 2016 on Dell T110.  Cannot get past the initial setup screen as it says there are no storage devices.
I have 3 Drives in RAID 5 (newly created volume) - When I try to install 2012 or 2016 it tells me there are no storage devices - it doesn't see the integrated Perc S100 controller.  I have downloaded and expanded the Dell Pre-OS Deployment kit and I have to remove the "hide non compatible devices" to see any type of controller, but it does not load it or recognize the Volumes.

Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series: Windows 10.
I have a memory stick which is not working . I would like to save the files on it to my desktop.
When i insert the memory stick into USB socket it shows up (in This PC window) after a good deal longer than usual. I right click on memory stick  icon and it tries to open. Sometimes it succeeds, but more often I get an error message and it disappears from the screen.
On the odd occasion it does open and the files are displayed but when i try the transfer them to the desktop the memory stick disappears and I get an error message. I have tried it in different ports and on different machines, but same result. '

The error message: 'E:/ is not accessible, A device which does not exist is specified'.

When I check 'properties: I am told,  zero bytes. And when I click on  'tools'  and run 'check for errors', I am told that Windows cannot access the device

Client has a DELL R710 with a the DELL custom ESXI 6.0 installed and about 4 VMs defined. It has been running fine for a couple of years, but just started behaving strangely. It seems like it is spontaneously rebooting, as I will remote in to find all the VMs off.  I cannot access the iDRAC to check the the server status, and there is nothing specific to a reboot listed in the VMWare event tab. The main summary page does not show an "Uptime" status, so it is not clear how long the host has been running.

Looked the VMWare system logs, but cannot really decipher the contents well enough to make a determination.

In the Health section, all the sensors report green / normal.

Can anyone advise on how best to troubleshoot and diag?

VMWare Host w/ESXI 6.0 (DELL R710) spontaneously rebooting?

I have a Dell desktop PC running on Windows 10. I utilise the backup and restore (Windows 7) program but which has failed to back up recently. This I believe was caused by some update. Looking at the recent updates they are all windows except there is adobe flash player.

Do I need to uninstall any updates? Can I do a fix without that?

Thanks

Dell T320 Server with PERC S110 Raid 1- has a degraded RAID 1 Array. no Read ahead / write through.

Event logs: Found this error - physical Disk 0;0;0;1 controller 0@connector 0 has failed.

When I use <control> C at boot to enter the raid setup, it states both drives are on line.

question: how do I remove the bad drive and rebuild the array......

Dell H800 with suddenly 20% slower performance.  All cpu's are good, battery healthy, RAID array on MD1200 are healthy.  How do we check the write cache on the controller?  Feels like the old days when the EMC CX500 cache battery died and the cache was disabled.

With this server, though, (running Solaris), we can't tell if the cache is enabled or not.

Hello,

I have a Dell R620 with 3tb of disk on a Raid5.  When I try to install win 2012 .. it does not partition the disk properly.. Essentially I am trying to give os partitioin 400gb and rest needs to be on a single partition of 2.6TB.  I know its an issue with GPT.. I am not sure how to configure it so when I boot off the usb drive win 2012 setup installs it as a GPT.

On the bios I have it setup as uefi.. not sure if it needs to be on bios.

I have two Dell Poweredge R420 servers, with iDRAC, VMWare 5.1 (prepping for upgrade), and two Power supplies each.  One of them though refuses to setup the second power supply in redundant mode.  The iDRAC setup indicates that there is a missing license.    I looked at my licenses on my Dell Account and there is none,  other then the two licenses for the iDRAC's which are held in perpetuity.  I am thinking there is something else going on.  All of the current firmware and updates are installed.  (this was done last week in the hopes it would resolve this.)  Looking for Ideas while I wait for Dell to respond.

I have a Dell PowerEdge R810 server and I would like to install Server Standard 2019 on it.  Dell says it doesn't support it, but I guess my question is, will it definitely NOT work?  I have to get rid of Server 2008R2 because of the EOL and I want to go with Server 2019 ideally.
