We have a Dell PowerEdge T620 running VMware ESXi v5.5.0.  It has a single virtual disk containing 6 x 600GB SAS disks in a RAID-10 configuration, attached to the PERC H710 controller, which has 512MB cache and a battery .  We want to expand the array and so have already connected two more disks of the same size, which show up as "ready" in the iDRAC GUI.

We can use the GUI to add the new disks as dedicated hotspares, but there is no option to add the disks to the array to expand it.

We have installed the Dell "Perccli" VIB and can run perccli to administer the array.

How do we either use perccli or some other method to add the disks to the array and expand it?

Hi All,

We have an Dell EqualLogic  6500 SAN that is out of warranty. We pay a third party company for replacement drives. We currently have a few different drives installed with different firmware versions (dependant on the make/model/SN of the disk). These are  Model: ST31000524NS Firmware: KD0A, Model: ST1000NM0011 Firmware: PD0A, Hitachi HUA723020ALA640 Firmware: MK70A8Q0 and Model: Hitachi HUA721010KLA330 Firmware: GKA0AB0A.

We recently had a disk die and had a replacement sent out, a ST31000NM0011 with firmware PD04. The SAN accepted the disk quite happily and the web portal display no errors. SAN HQ however reports a critical error that the disk firmware is out of date.

My questions are:

1. Other than SAN HQ complaining will the out of date firmware effect anything, the disk is currently a spare, if we have another failure can it still function as an active disk if required?
2. Our supplier has stated that they can get hold of a disk but it has a higher version of firmware than what we currently have. Can we use this disk instead, or as it is a higher firmware will it complain / will we have to upgrade the firmware on all the other disks?
3. As we don't have support with Dell, is it feasible to update the firmware on the disk myself, If so how can I obtain the firmware/ are there instructions to accomplish this?

Thanks for your help.

Kind Regards,
Paul

Anyone recommend a video card I can purchase?

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I have a Dell PowerEdge R430 server with Broadcom Network Adapter, Server 2012 R2 OS.
I am unable to ping or remote to the physical server, but strangely the VMs hosted on it are fine and I can reach them.

Any idea as to the cause and possible solutions?

We have four Dell servers of various models and year.  Two of the Dells have LIS2008 HBS cards in them and the other two have Dell PERCH810 cards.

For storage, we have a Dell MD3200 and an IBM V3700 (don't laugh...I didn't pick the IBM).

Interesting thing is, when I connect the two LSI2008 HBA cards to the IBM and the Dell storage, those two cards CAN see the storage on both devices and access it.

The two Dell PERC cards can of course see the Dell storage, but CANNOT see anything in the IBM except the controller.

So, I've confirmed that the LSI2008 HBS cards CAN see both storage arrays but the PERCs cannot see beyond the IBM controller.

Can anyone give me some feedback on why this is?

I need all four servers to see both the Dell and the IBM storage and I'm about to buy two LSI cards but want a second opinion before I do.

Thanks

Problem: The laptop has to be restarted each time it is re-attached to a Dell WD15 docking station, the laptop is not shutdown when it it re-attached to the docking station.
Things already tried: Dell Command Update was already executed.
2.The system pass the hardware diagnostic test.
3.The appropriate power saving options were set, however, I did not disable hibernation.
4. Confirmed that the firmware on the docking station is already updated.

I suspect that the system board will need to be replaced since a I believe the system is undock and re-docked often.

What am I missing?

How to determine what causes File Explorer to crash.
Resolution: Update Windows 10 from 1803 to 1809
Executed Dell Support Assist: No hardware issues were found and all the drivers were updated and I believe everything else in the Dell support assist tool box, were executed.
Plan to run a full office repair next, even though the problem has not re-occured
Since my notes is not on me, I believe I executed SFC /scannow
I also believe DLP was removed, but I was not able to  confirm
What else  should I be looking at to determine the cause (File Explorer hanging)?
Note, no actions were performed that would trigger DLP, so it could be incompatible software
I may have to execute drivers verifier next to determine what drivers that are incompatible
If the problem re-ccurs, I will disable all services except Microsoft and enable one by one to see which one causes the problem.
I will also see if the problem happens in Safe Mode
I did not check to see if the Antivirus software was running in the background

I had this question after viewing Dell server memory configuration on R410.

I have a PowerEdge R410, I recently purchased additional memory for the server.  I have 16Gb originally, 4 sticks of 4GB each.  I purchased 2 16GB sticks hoping I could bump it up to 48Gb total.  What I am finding similar to the article above is that no matter the configuration, it disables specific dim slots.  Is there any configuration I can use that would allow me to have all 48 gigs usable?   It is very frustrating as I thought

Purchasing new server. We have to options, Dell Poweredge R6415 and HPE Proliant DL325 Gen10.  I am familiar with HPE Proliant servers. We have used them for many years. The Dell Poweredge R6415 looks good and it's a good bit cheaper. I'm wondering if any of you have used these. Have you used them as VM host?  Limitations?

1.  Do you wish to create a new Tenant Domain or use an existing Tenant

Domain?
Example: companyx.onmicrosoft.com ?
_ New Tenant Domain     _Existing Tenant Domain

2.  What is the Tenant Domain you wish to use?
The Tenant Domain must always end in ".onmicrosoft.com".

We have Windows Server 2016 on premises, and Exchange Server 2016 on premises.

How do I respond to those 2 questions?

Hi - I have a Dell XPS 15 9530 laptop, that I attempted to update the BIOS last night from A2 to A11, it started and about 2/3 of the way through, the computer froze up, and the fan was loud. It also wouldnt allow me to press and hold the power button to shut it down. So about 45 minutes later, it turned off  by itself (I thought the battery may have died). When I went to turn it back on, it wouldnt. No lights, nothing. Dead. Anyone have any experience with this?

First of all, if this problem gets too involved I will split it out into multiple questions as we conquer one problem at a time.
I recently acquired a used Dell R710 server.
The system had a system board replacement right before I acquired it, and I did s secure wipe on the drives to remove old software and proceeded to start reloading it.  I'm not extremely well versed in Server systems, and even less so in Dell, so forgive my ignorance as you attempt to help m.
I loaded Server 2016 on the system via DVD and this resulted in some missing drivers, as you might expect.  When I started trying to hunt down drivers I found the suggestion that I should upgrade the bios as well as the iDRAC and LCC.
I'm not all that familiar with iDRAC or the LCC, so I spent some time reading up and attempting to upgrade these.  I did finally get the iDRAC upgraded to the latest version, but have been unable to get the LCC firmware updated.  The updates I've attempted, via the iDRAC, remotely from within my LAN, have just sit and spin and tell me that the file is being uploaded, and days later it never changes.
I tried accessing the LCC using F10 on bootup, and this has proven futile. I did manage to access it once, but was unable to navigate to the updates that I had on my network share, and while I was in there I noticed some errors in the logs about new hardware installed, such as the ram, processors, etc.... this was a result of the new mainboard being installed, and I found …

I have Dell PC running windows 10. I use the windows back up and restore software for backing up on external drive. But this has not been upgraded since Windows 7.

Now I have updated Windows 10 I can no long get the back up to work. I need to find a different way now that Microsoft do not provide technical support on this.  Any ideas please for continuing to be able to back up on the external drive?

Thanks

I have a Netgear ProSafe VPN Firewall SRXN3205 that has builtin WiFi.  I just bought a new Dell XPS that has a Killer Wireless-n/a/ac 1535 Wireless Network Adapter.  Other computers have no problem connecting to the Netgear and receiving internet, but I can't do it with the new one.  It connects to the Netgear, but no IP address information seems to come over.  When I do a ipconfig /all, this is what I get for the wireless adapter

Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi:

   Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
   Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Killer Wireless-n/a/ac 1535 Wireless Network Adapter
   Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 9C-B6-D0-BC-64-27
   DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
   Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

Any ideas?

We recently just replaced a hard drive on a Dell Lattitude E5450, and performed a clean install of windows 7 pro 64 bit.

We are attempting to install drivers from the dell website, however, when clicking on the executable files (ex: Network_Driver_D8VDT_WN32_22.3.108.0_A03.exe), we are recieving the following error message: "The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library kernel32.dll"

Has anyone ever run into this issue in the past, and if so, is there a fix?

I must have missed something. The specific model of computer that has gone in to a state of backorder is the Dell Optiplex 3060 but when I look at other vendors like Lenovo and HP their desktop computers are nowhere to be found either. This shortage seemed to start a little over a month ago. Is there something wrong with Intel's 8th gen CPU or something? ANyone have any idea what is going on?

Hi Experts,

My father has a DELL laptop with Windows 10, with expired warranty.

Lately, as he is working or watching movies, the mouse on its own gets stuck on the Start button.  When this happens, the cursor is stuck below Start and a shadow appears near the Start button .

This has been going on several of weeks, but just yesterday this escalated to clicks and right clicks on the start button.  User interaction on the mouse pad is not responsive.

Any ideas.

I tried to help my dad get his computer working after his keyboard started having the control key act like it was stuck after a few key strokes.  Eliminated the hardware as the issue and tried all manner of options including uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, and going back to a January restore point.  Decided to opt for the Fresh Start option in Windows 10 Home and now it boots up with zero keyboard or mouse functionality.

I tried to use Dell's service tag and remote support scanning capability, but even with the latest version of their support too installed, nothing happened.  I also confirmed he was on the latest available version of the bios.

I believe this is an older computer that originally had Windows 7 installed and has an AMD processor.  Just looking for some advice on the best next steps that might not result in total data loss, as he probably has some stuff on that computer he wants to keep.

Just wondering if anyone knows why a Dell 3048P switch would produce the errors below when trying to ping the default gateway:

Thank you!

I am not looking for a long discussion here, I just want to know if anybody ever seen this kind of weirdness before? As a side benefit, perhaps this question will help somebody in the future.

One week ago I installed my coworker's new Dell Inspiron computer onto our Server 2016 domain. The computer has windows 10 pro and Office 365, and several apps that our business has been using for years.

Things have worked very well until this morning when her keyboard stopped working. NONE of the keys did anything even though the shift lock and other lights worked normally.

I tried moving the keyboard to a different USB port, then I replaced the keyboard with a similar model. Still nothing.

The mouse still worked so I used it to close everything on the desk top, which did not help. Task manager also did not show anything unusual.

I opened on screen keyboard ( Start Icon > Settings gear > Ease of Access > Keyboard (near bottom) >  turn on top option ("Use the On-Screen Keyboard")

I used the mouse to open MS word, and used OSK to type the letter X into the word document which worked fine.  To my surprise, the physical keyboard started working.

I closed OSK and things have been normal for an hour.

This is a very simple solution which I have added to my bag of tricks.

But, I wonder if anyone has ever seen this weirdness before, and if they know what happened.

hi guys

I have a Dell XPS 15 9570, with an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050Ti (4GB) graphics card. It also has an Intel UHD Graphics 630.

The question I have is, am I making the most out out of my display for performance? When I go in to the actual Nvidia control panel, I have attached a screenshot of what it shows. It hasn't selected the Geforce, but instead the Intel UHD?
