Digital Audio

Digital audio is technology that can be used to record, store, generate, manipulate, and reproduce sound using audio signals encoded in digital form. Following significant advances in technology, digital rapidly replaced analog audio technology in most areas. Digital audio systems may include compression, storage, processing and transmission components. It is important to distinguish between the audio coding format, the codec performing the encoding and decoding of the raw audio data, and the container file. Common file formats include .wav, .aiff, .au, .m4a, .mp3, .wma, .ra and .raw.

I have a KVM switch for the monitor, keyboard and mouse and it also has audio connections. The two audio wires from the switch have the green connectors, one to each system.

My speakers have another wire which is a USB power cord.

The KVM solves the two green speaker wires.
How to solve the need to connect the USB power cord (speaker power cord) ?

What amount of power is feeding the speakers from the pc?
Small current such that a Y connector could be used?
Good day! I have an audio MPeg file of a speech. I would like to "convert" that audio into hard copy text like a Word document. How can I do that? Thx
I had this question after viewing Need cordless bluetooth earpiece for cell phone..

While we're on the subject, what is the best hands-free device for cell phones in terms of vocal clarity?
I have transferred music from albums on the turn table to re-writable CD's and at that time I could not edit the CD's such as name of artist & song title. When playing the cd on whatever device, the name of the artist comes up as track one, track two, etc. What I want to do is transfer the music to a USB flash drive and edit the music so that when playing the USB flash drive the artist & song title shows up.
Motorola MBP160 Digital Audio Baby Monitor

My college roommate and I were a band, and now that there is Logic Pro X, we might do things again. What can anyone say about long distance collaboration? - Shared Projects a possibility, or must we use dropbox?

I have a rather urgent need to play certain .wav files on a particular computer.  There are five files that were created the same way, two will play and three will not.  The only difference I can see is that the ones that will play are 17 kbps bitrate, and the ones that won't are 19 kbps.  All are small files (under 1 MB).  The ones that won't play don't play in Windows Media Player (encountered a problem while playing the file), VLC (nothing happens), iTunes (doesn't even show up as files when added).  However there are two computers that do successfully play the files.   Those computers are identical to each other and I assume have different sound cards from the ones that won't play it.  Unfortunately, those computers are not in the location where we need these files to play.  Does anyone have any idea what can be done on the computer that is in the right location to make it play?  Also, on the computers that do play it I used VLC to convert to an MP4 and that didn't work either.  Help!!!
I want to use the built-in mic on a Macbook Air and be able to hear myself talking over my headphones.   Either using headphones with corded plugin or bluetooth.  Using ScreenFlow v6 as the software.

Note: using Quicktime, any sound picked up by the internal microphone can be heard over the headphones however there is a noticeable delay.
What are the best low cost methods for this?

On my Facebook page, what exactly do I do? Create a post with the URL to the video?

I will send out  Tweet and probably post that Tweet, but these are tiny.

can I just post in on various related Facebook pages?

I have my first video ready and need to create a Channel. What info do I need to create the channel?

What about search terms, etc?

How many characters or words am I allowed? Are those associated with the channel or the video or both?

Can I change these values later as I tweak it?

I really want to get this uploaded fast.

What kinds of things can I do to get traffic besides the obvious use of social media to spread the video?

Is there a way to play a brief MP3 or WAV file without opening Windows Media Player (wmp) or another media player?

I've got a subtle computer sound in an mp3 file and a wav file. I want to be able to play the sound as a reminder at pre-scheduled times. Some time ago, I found an app called Karen's Countdown Timer II which makes it easy to schedule various events at pre-determined times. The app offers the option to display an alert window, play/open/run a file, or send an email message. It works great if the desired event is to display a custom alert window. However, if it is directed to play a sound file, it always opens wmp to play it.

I'm looking for a way to play a sound similar to the many other built-in computer sounds I hear from time to time which do not require the opening of wmp.

Alternatively, does anyone know of a different app which enables the creating of audio reminders?

I need to film my desktop and have voice overs I will speak into the microphone. What tools  to I need for that?

I use a Mac (El Capitan) and have iMovie, but can't seem to get it to "create a new movie"?

What's the best tool to record my desktop and also record voice? I am able to edit the voice on Audacity, but mainly to cut and re-record bad sentences that I previously recorded.
I need to speak for a video and scroll the words on the video, like a teleprompter.

I have a Mac but have not done an real video editing before. I do work comfortably with Audacity and have created and edited numerous MP3's.

What can you suggest for a plan for this part of my video? I mean the scrolling script portion...

I'm looking for a way to edit a podcast collaboratively in real time. I'm hoping for something akin to Google Docs but for audio.

My research has lead me to a few cloud options, such as ohm studio, but it looks like these solutions lean more towards real time midi pattern syncs, uploading pre-edited clips, or directly capturing live audio vs. editing waveform like in Adobe Audition or Audacity.

I read a little about using Audition with Creative Cloud, but I didn't come across any info that explicitly described the process I was looking to achieve. It read more like you'd be able to share projects with people using Creative Cloud in the same way you would upload/share something using Dropbox or OneDrive.

Is there something out there that would allow me to accomplish this type of editing?

Thanks for reading!
This is round 2 for a question I've asked earlier, but this time with a better example and clearer explanation of what is needed.

The object is to find a fast and easy way to reformat the names of mp3 files. PLEASE NOTE that I am not a code writer, so any responses about me writing code will be worthless.

Let's say I have this list of files:

I need to change their names to:

So, the first thing I need is some simple way to do this quickly and easily. If the solution is a piece of software, please make sure you have run this project through the software yourself and not just looked it over.

Now, the second thing I need is for the solution to be flexible enough so that a week later (and each week after that), the same re-naming can be done quickly and easily--BUT with the file names  In different order.

Week One Files                  Renamed As

TaxHelp.mp3                      1.1-Spot1.mp3

LifeInsurance.mp3             3.1-Spot1.mp3

Years of experience with User Interfaces of all types.  Using Itunes on Win 10

Before, in Itunes, you could do a search from the "For You" tab.

Open an album of say 13 tracks.

Then, using Control + Click you could select multiple tracks.  Control + Click to select multiple files being one of the most common features of Windows.

Since about the beginning of October seems like that no longer works in searched music from the For You tab.

If I go into My Library and open an album it DOES work.

But, albums searched from the For You tab and opened you can only select one song at a time, then click add.

What do you think is happening?  I even uninstalled Itunes then reinstalled.  Same behavior.

We are potentially going to be moving into a building that has some unique features to it.  In it are several classrooms.  Each classroom has what looks like an IDF in each classroom with switches and audio/visual equipment that I am unfamiliar with. The new office building has an ampitheater that has a whole audio/visual setup like a theater where they can show presentations or play movies.  This theater is able to tie in to the separate classrooms and play the same presentation in the theater.

We are not experts at audio visual equipment.  We may not have access to the previous tenants to know how the setup works.  I know this is not enough detail, but what are some basic components that I need to get familiar in order to know how these projectors and system work?  Is there a diagram online that can tell me how these systems are setup?
I have this expensive professional mic which I plugged into my pc (after purchasing an XLR to mini adapter) and found that the input level was really low.  the mic has a battery so I replaced the battery.  Same thing.  Low level.  My meter on Audacity shows that my voice is registering like mad.  all over the place.  however, when I examine the actual recorded waveform on the audacity screen, it's miniscule. even though when I'm recording the audacity signal meter is jumping substantially.
My audacity mic levels are all the way up yet its still low
Is there something else I should be adjusting?
I have recorded hours of audio to upload to a website. I've had no problems before, but now they're rejecting my audio files saying it's due to Noise Floor.

How can I fix the Noise Floor in an existing audio file?

I just tried to drag and drop a MP3 file from my PC desktop to my iphone and it wouldn't let me. I got the red circle with the slash across it.

I would like to listen to this MP3 on my iPHone.
How can I transfer it?

Is there an app or sw where I can write a TV-format DVD that can display our images?
If that is not possible, I can purchase a DVD that reads digital-format DVD's ... but then same question.
