Digital Audio

Digital audio is technology that can be used to record, store, generate, manipulate, and reproduce sound using audio signals encoded in digital form. Following significant advances in technology, digital rapidly replaced analog audio technology in most areas. Digital audio systems may include compression, storage, processing and transmission components. It is important to distinguish between the audio coding format, the codec performing the encoding and decoding of the raw audio data, and the container file. Common file formats include .wav, .aiff, .au, .m4a, .mp3, .wma, .ra and .raw.

Getting Bluetooth Music (from iPhone) NOT interrupted by incoming Text Message

When I listen to music on my BT speakers, a sound plays to announce incoming Text Messages and emails. How can I stop that?

I manage an audio blog. Each day I get an MP3 file from the author, and need to add on an intro and outro. I can do this easily using AVS4U Audio Editor, but I want to give this job over to someone else and make it even easier for him (and if possible, I would like to avoid re-encoding the file as that takes time and can potentially lesson the quality).

Is there some program out there that can combine three MP3 files together and form a new MP3 file?
What devices/platforms are the leaders for e-books?

I imaging iPhone/Android/Bluetooth would be a popular way to list to an e-book, sine lots of people listen in the car.

But, what platforms would I use to reach this market? Is that iTunes? Amazon Audible.com?

Does Kindle support Bluetooth?

Please provide a high level view of e-books, the hardware and the services which can reach the largest parts of the market.

Need advice on making an audio book

I have a book I self-published, which is not selling due to people no longer wanting the weight of a book. So, I would make this into an audio book.

What approach is ideal? What audio format(s) are needed?

I would sell this on Amazon, so what audio formats do best on Amazon?

Also, my book has lots of images to them. How best to explain the contents of an image?

What other differences would cause the audio version to be different than the printed version?

I am having an Audio/U-PHORIA Meltdown!

I recently upgraded my version of the Mac OS. Today, I found Audacity needed to be upgraded to a 64-bit version. I did so, then found my microphone did not work.

I see that Audacity recognizes my behringer U-PHORIA UMC202HD

Audacity 1
I check System Preferences and verified the mic works with this test...

System Preferences
So, what could be wrong with Audacity? When I click Record, no sound shows up even though I speak into the microphone...

I have a file containing 50 or 60 mp3 tracks. I need to manually add a new field in the MP3Tag working screen when the file is loaded, so that I can physically enter a specific number....but I can't seem to use MP3Tag's usually easy to use controls to create a column, name it, and do the work.

What am I missing?
I have these JBL S36 II 6" Wall-Mountable 3-Way Speakers with RCA gold plated connectors.

What's what's the best quick and dirty way to connect then to the music source?   Which is desktop or laptop as a music source.
Any idea appreciated.
There's a song I'd like to download from Soundcloud but I don't see a DOWNLOAD button. Is this prohibited on Soundclouderr
Say, I'm used to using the Audicity program in Windows https://www.audacityteam.org/ . I use very few of the features, just basic audio editing. Kindly recommend an app for Android that is similar in nature and perhaps, compatible. Thanks, Shaun

I have an Samsung TV UE555H6200 connected via HDMI to a settop box.
Other HDMI has Chromecast Ultra.

Now I'd like to attach 2 to 4 (wireless) headphones.
What do I need to do this?

Please advise.
I've recorded a conversation using my cell phone and the built-in mic on my Acer Windows 10 laptop. My guest sounds, as you would expect, like he's on a telephone. But the "phone" quality is in many cases raspy. I can usually tweak and edit silence and such pretty good, but I need help here.

I've tried several different settings but just can't get my guest's audio to sound less sharp, less "telephone-y" and simply more clear.

Any audio production experts out there who can give me what I hope will be a little simple guidance to clean this audio up?
Starter acoustic guitar for use with the Chord Buddy, Android smartphone, and sound amplification

I purchased this thing called the Chord Buddy https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OABXOMG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and am considering this option for a starter acoustic guitar https://www.amazon.com/Fender-FA-115-Acoustic-Strings-Instructional/dp/B0092V7WJ0/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=guitar&qid=1571024587&sr=8-4.

I don't want to spend a fortune but I would like to give myself some long-term options in case I actually enjoy it.

Is it possible to have this guitar interface with my cell phone in some way?

I want to make sure I am going down a reasonably flexible path before dropping another $150-$200 on a guitar, etc first.

Your thoughts and some guidance here would be greatly appreciated.
On a page on my website, I have have 5 mini-players side by side, each of which played a different promotional announcement for features on the site that changed weekly. I had been using Dewplayer, as it was very easy to use, just the right size and worked well. All I had to do was to change the mp3 file for each player and that was that.

Now, with Flash getting the axe bit by bit, I need to find another such player

I thought this would be no big deal, but I haven't found anything yet that I like.

So I'm asking you experts for some help and suggestions on this, preferably players that you know first-hand and are 100% non-Flash powered.
As you may know,  Adobe will be ending support for its Flash player about a year from now.

With the major browsers already blocking Flash-powered players, I am looking for a very simple replacement. I want to put 4 or 5 of those players on one page, make it small and simple, to provide an audio "promo" for each one that I will change weekly.

I have been using Dewplayer, which did the job extremely well, but since it was Flash based, it's trashed now.

I've done some searching the past couple of days and I don't see much of anything that jumps out at me.

Can anyone recommend something that will get this job done?
Is there any software out there (preferrably free, maybe garage band)  that I could use to put together some acoustic guitar chords to go along with singning?  I am using a MAC
I have an old DVD that I love dearly and I want to upload to my cloud and see it any time.  However, when I was about to upload, I thought it was just mp4  files of but it's not.   The DVD is compose of two folders "JACKET_P" and "VIDEO_TS" where the last holds about 4 or 4 GB of data (mostly VOB files) also had 3 files in the root folder of AUTORUN.INF, dvd-rom.exe and go.exe.  I could contact the guys that did this recording but my colleague tells me that that is the format since it has menus and other stuff.

I just want to save my DVD, if possible with the same menu options, in my cloud account and be able to see it anytime and from my computer, iPhone and iPad.  Anyways, I have received a whole bunch of advice that just don't make sense, so help please.

Regardless of listening to music or video, I'm experiencing intermittent static while plugged into my office iMac. The static noise is every few seconds, but there is no consistent timing between noises. I moved the cable away from other electronics and power cords to no avail. Muting audio does not prevent noise. The headphones are Audio-Technica ATH-M40x and the computer is an iMac running High Sierra 10.13.6

I also plugged the headphones into my MacBook Pro (also running High Sierra 10.13.6) and the static ceased, so the headphones are fine?
I regularly travel using Audible books for entertainment, and would like to find the best Bluetooth wireless headset that would allow me to listen to my books but also make and answer telephone calls on my iPhone.  I really don't care about stereo, and would prefer a single-ear device with an ear-hook (since ear buds tend to fall out of my ears).  But when I looked into the top rated devices (Plantronics 5200 and Sennheiser Presence) it isn't clear if they will allow me to listen to books & music in between phone calls.  Can you please recommend a device that satisfies these requirements?

Any suggestions on a bluetooth speaker that I can hook up to my iphone so I can hands free talk in my car on the road?  Old car, don't have bluetooth to hear calls through car speakers.
I made a voice recording (a speech) in a echo-filled room.
How can I use audacity to get rid of the echo in the recording?
Apple Airpods microphone is not working with Windows 10 Pro.

After some research I found this response saying the microphone will not work.  This is from two years ago.  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7895762

Are there any new updates that will allow me to use my Airpods microphone on Windows 10?

Why do I need this ability?
I use Slack, Skype, Zoom daily and this would be nice to use and not have to resort to plugging in my earbuds to use those apps just so the microphone works.

Additional info:
When I use my Airpods with Zoom I've noticed that I can hear everyone talking through the Airpods, but I believe my laptop mic is still the one being used when I talk.  This is fine.  I can hear people talking in the Airpods and I can still use the laptop microphone.

When I use my Airpods with Slack or Skype I've noticed that as soon as I join a call all audio/mic is killed on the Airpods and I have to stop using the Airpods and plug in my earbuds to be able to talk/hear others on a call.  It would be awesome if Slack and Skype would allow me to do the same as I do with Zoom!

Eg Slack interface when I make or receive a phone call > Settings

No matter what option I choose here in the drop down I cannot get audio in the Airpods, but I have had success getting the laptop microphone to work.
Thank you for reading.
I am putting together what I call a computer audio workstation for my office. To cut to the chase, what I want to do is use BOTH a Toshiba laptop a Dell desktop along with an external CD player/burner.  i will also be recording vocal stuff using a couple of microphones routed  to computer through a Berhinger Eurorack mixer.

I'd like to use the screen on the laptop as a monitor for the Dell for certain applications.

I know this sounds a bit old school, and it is. I have some specific audio recording work I'm planning to do on a regular basis and have determined hat a separate audio workstation will  enable me to do it easily and  save time.

What do you recommend?
I need to upload a 113,972 KB MP3 file to YouTube.  That means I need to run it through a converter that will change it to an MP4 with an image.

I've done this often with a free utility, but this file is too large for that free converter.  I don't mind paying for a service or buying an app if someone can point me to one that's legitimate.
