Digital Audio

Digital audio is technology that can be used to record, store, generate, manipulate, and reproduce sound using audio signals encoded in digital form. Following significant advances in technology, digital rapidly replaced analog audio technology in most areas. Digital audio systems may include compression, storage, processing and transmission components. It is important to distinguish between the audio coding format, the codec performing the encoding and decoding of the raw audio data, and the container file. Common file formats include .wav, .aiff, .au, .m4a, .mp3, .wma, .ra and .raw.

What technology do you think is a fad that won’t last?
I like Apple products but Airpods and the touch bar on their latest MacBook are those fads that won't last.

I'm totally speaking hypocritically because I like my Apple machines. I understand their need to stay relevant but I have a feeling it will catch up to them if they don't come out with something revolutionary.

Yeah, I hear you on that! For such a long time they were the underdog and that helped them be really scrappy and daring. But now that they're such a powerhouse, there's a lot of fear that they could become like the Microsoft of old...

On Demand Webinar - Networking for the Cloud Era

This webinar discusses:
-Common barriers companies experience when moving to the cloud
-How SD-WAN changes the way we look at networks
-Best practices customers should employ moving forward with cloud migration
-What happens behind the scenes of SteelConnect’s one-click button

Came across this on Wired today:

I highly recommend following the "Watch" link within; it leads to a video on YouTube of one of the researchers from Stanford editing a video of George W. Bush to insert new facial and speech expression in real time using an off-the-shelf webcam.

Yep... We're going to need entirely new techniques for determining and maintaining authenticity for things like this. Hey, maybe that can be one of those uses for quantum computing somehow... I'm also thinking blockchain solutions too (even though I really have a pretty weak grasp on blockchain, it does seem like a primary purpose is to help with data integrity.)

Photoshop brought about many similar problems for photography and all sorts of techniques have had to be created to detect when things are doctored.

But really, it's most important to always have a healthy level of skepticism... Even without any sort of editing of a photograph, it's easy to bend the truth just by what you choose to show in the frame!

This technology is scary, but it's coming whether we like it or not.

I have a large WAV file that I would like to put on CD's that I
can play on my car stereo..  It is 46.2 MB in size. Roxio will allow
only 24.6 MG, so I would like to split it, using Audacity, then
export the two halves, then burn two disks. .It's been awhile since
I've used Audacity, so I'm asking for advice.

Glen, is the trial fully functional or did you need to purchase? Just had a look at their home page and it looks quite comprehensive. I hesitate installing it if it doesn't allow saves in the trial to give it a decent run before buying though?

I used it free several times.  I will not buy it.  I have completed my objective.
Case closed.  Thanks for your concern.     Glen

I’ve started a podcast with some friends, called “Friend Quest.” In it, we play tabletop RPGs, and we’re currently going through a Pathfinder adventure (with me as GM). The first episode is up now on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/friend-quest/id1232062366?mt=2
New episodes will be out every Wednesday. If it’s not too much trouble, please leave a rating and review.
