A digital camera or digicam is a camera that encodes digital images and videos digitally and stores them for later reproduction. Most cameras sold today are digital, and digital cameras are incorporated into many devices ranging from PDAs and mobile phones (called camera phones) to vehicles. Digital and film cameras share an optical system, typically using a lens with a variable diaphragm to focus light onto an image pickup device.  Digital cameras can display images on a screen immediately after being recorded, and store and delete images from memory. Many digital cameras can also record moving videos with sound. Some digital cameras can crop and stitch pictures and perform other elementary image editing.

Hello all,

I might have already answered my own question but I am looking for community advice for any other cameras that I should consider.

I am looking for a compact camera that I can carry everywhere in lieu of having to lug around my DSLR and a few lenses.

What prompted this quest was that I need to shoot video this summer and my Pentax K-3 isn't actually easy to use for video work (auto-focus is terrible and it isn't very suitable for long 1 hour shoots). I was going to purchase a video camera but then I thought... I don't want the bulk of a video camera nor do I want to own an essentially single-purpose camera. What about a compaq P&S? They can capture decent video these days, correct?

My requirements or wish list:
  • Ability to shoot decent 1080p video for at least 1 hour. "Decent" meaning reasonably acceptable quality.
  • Must be compact (like the Canon Powershot SX720 HS).
  • 40x zoom or better.
  • The highest zoom setting must be of good quality.
  • Option for full manual control of shutter and aperture.

So far, the best I could find is the Canon Powershot SX720 HS? Ideally, I would like the capability of a longer lens but I think that is the best I'll find for a compact P&S.

Thank you.

Hi,

I would like advice or a recommendation for security cameras that would have good color detail at night.
My cameras show fuzzy images in the shadows. :)

What would I look at to pick a very good color detail day and night?
Zoom in ability?
180 degree turn ability and ? tilt 45 degrees?

I am thinking of getting a couple more cameras to see how I like them at my house.
Then may add to my rental house.

Should I look at anything else that I missed?

Thank you,
BillC

I need to do a lot of parallel parking in really tight parking spaces in places like San Francisco.

Please provide me with a list of small cameras that I can have mounted to the back of my car (by the license plate) that will then broadcast (using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi) to an Android or iPhone so that I will be able to accurately determine and safely be able to backup my car.

I am looking for an outdoor security camera that can view an area remotely on a rural property. The area has excellent cell service on all major cell service providers, but no internet access. So I am looking for a single camera system that can be mounted on a light pole and stream video through a major cell provider like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, & T-Mobile. This is my main requirement to answer this question.

Optionally, the camera would be able to:
  • Take time laps images
  • Move PTO and Zoom
  • Saves data for later use
  • Operate on solar power
If any of these features are included in the answer, it would be a better answer.

I realize that I can MacGyver a few systems together to make a solution, such as using a WIFI security camera with a WIFI LTE HotSpot device, but I am hoping to find an all-in-one solution that will reduce complexity and the chance of a disconnection/support.

A friend has intelli-studio on his PC, Windows 10
When he USB-connect his camera, all (new) pictures are automatically transfer from it to his pictures directory.
The problem is that intelli-studio creates one directory per day (on the camera, this is not the case)
I could not find the place where to configure this so that all pictures go inside one single (sub)directory

I need to upgrade our security camera system because we would like to add a few more cameras.
We have Analog camera systems that we can access via web browser.

Q1) Do I want Hybrid system or Tri-brid?
My research told me that Hybrid is Analog + IP, whereas Tribrid is Hybrid + HDCVI (basically higher resolution using old BNC cable?)
So I assume that if we want to add new hi-res analog cameras, then Tribrid.

One of the camera (Tribrid) spec says: 720P25, 720P30, 720P50, 720P60, 1080P25, 1080P30, CVBS.

Looking at another camera spec (Hybrid):
Analog Video Input: 16-ch, BNC(1.0Vp-p, 75Ω), PAL/NTSC adaptive
Composite Video Input: Up to 32-ch (Analog video + IP video )

I think CVBS means legacy analog video cameras. Then the second camera (Hybrid) cannot handle our existing legacy cameras?

Q2) Can these new cameras output lower resoluions?
We access these cameras via internet, so hi-res is less desired due to the amount of data traffic. So 720p is enough, or maybe it slows down the access.

Q3) It seems that the prices vary within a product, depending on the size of the HDD. It is possible to install a brand new HDD to save some money, right? Or is it not worth doing it?

Hello Friends,

Can anyone pls advice if any such VMS software is available (Free/paid) which can be used in front-end to monitor all CCTV cameras.

I mean to ask such Unify VMS software for different NVR & IP Cameras.

Currently I am using HKVISION cameras with KHVISION NVR & Siqura camera with DIVA VMS application.

But now I need to have a common window (App-for windows & Mobile) where-in I could club all cameras & can monitor from single window.

Regrets for long explanation.

Looking forwards to have your experts advice.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

How can you use  you embedded cameras to make a 3D model? How many would it take to make a 3D model of a 2,000 square ft. house? Is there a certain kind of camera you need to do it or could you use any multiple cameras? If there is a certain type of camera you need then how expensive are they?

hi,

can someone recommend a security camera for my home to install?

my next door neighbour happened to see somebody trying to break into their house around about 5 ocklock in the morning. They could see a dark figure but not the face as it is still a little bit dark. Now they are planning to install a security camera.

I told them, i will supply and install it but looking for advice on the best one and affordable for home used.

We live in the pacific and order most of the time from the following supplier in New Zealand:

www.pbtech.co.nz

Can someone recommend the best one used for home?

Regards,

Bakaka

Greetings Experts,

I have a Panasonic WJ-NV300 DVR with several cameras.  I'm having a problem loading the GUI on a few computers.

Have 5 computers in total, 2 work, 3 do not.  All settings are the same in Internet settings.  Flash and Java are up to date.

The video guy, said when he originally logged onto the gui there was a download from the DVR, I'm not getting that message on the ones that are not working.

Also, the one that works has WebMedia Control from Panasonic, in the add-ons.. the others do not.  I'm guessing this is the problem.

I can't seem to find a manual download.

Directx 11 is installed

Anyone know how to get this add on?  I've seen a bunch of dead ends on the Interweb..

Thanks,

Kacey

Hello. I am a private individual, not a business, and I am not a computer professional.  I am in possession of a digital camera that was found in a hotel  room in Las Vegas.  There are MANY photos on this camera and I assume that the owner would want it back.  The hotel has been of no help in providing any information that would help identify the owner.  There are many photos of various people on the camera and so I am thinking that maybe a facial recognition program or some kind of internet photo search program might help identify someone in these pictures which could lead to the owner.  This is a one-off project just to try to identify the owner of the camera and so I do not want to spend a ton of money on software or applications.  Is there any free facial recognition software I could use?  Are there any companies who specialize in this kind of stuff?  Any ideas / suggestions?  Thank You.
