Digital Cameras / Camcorders

A digital camera or digicam is a camera that encodes digital images and videos digitally and stores them for later reproduction. Most cameras sold today are digital, and digital cameras are incorporated into many devices ranging from PDAs and mobile phones (called camera phones) to vehicles. Digital and film cameras share an optical system, typically using a lens with a variable diaphragm to focus light onto an image pickup device.  Digital cameras can display images on a screen immediately after being recorded, and store and delete images from memory. Many digital cameras can also record moving videos with sound. Some digital cameras can crop and stitch pictures and perform other elementary image editing.

On Demand Webinar: Networking for the Cloud Era

Did you know SD-WANs can improve network connectivity? Check out this webinar to learn how an SD-WAN simplified, one-click tool can help you migrate and manage data in the cloud.

I have an SD card that I need to get the pictures off of.  Something seems to have happened to the disk and it is asking me if I want to format it...and that doing so will cause me to lose all data.  Any help?  I would really like access to the contents of that disk!!!

Part 1) I have tons of images from my research, where I have the same image in many different folders, often using the same filename. These do not involve a human face.

Part 2) I have lots of redundant photos of family and friends on disk and also imported into the "Photos" app on my MacBook.
None involve a human face.

I need a solution to help reduce redundant photos on my disk, since they are starting to clog my disk.

What options to I have?

If I used Picassa, does that only match like photos when there is a human face? Or is it pattern based, so I can use it to match on pictures of buildings also?

Is there an app I can use on the Mac, which I can keep private? I do not relish handing over 100% of my research and family photos to Big Brother in the Sky.

Thanks

An editor is using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017 to edit my video but does not know how to se the default image for the video.

When he text message me the video, I see it displayed the first frame of the video, ad it looks fine. When I copy the video and past eo my desktop, it's another story.

It shows the image which was the first frame on the video a week ago. I told him there was a way to set the default image frame of the MP4.

Is that true? Can't I specify how the MP4 looks when sitting on my desktop?

And if so, ow is this done with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017?

Thanks.

Hello,

We use GoToMeeting, we'd like to get a web camera to connect to our TV (and hopefully somehow to a PC wirelessly). Any options here?

Hello all,

I might have already answered my own question but I am looking for community advice for any other cameras that I should consider.

I am looking for a compact camera that I can carry everywhere in lieu of having to lug around my DSLR and a few lenses.

What prompted this quest was that I need to shoot video this summer and my Pentax K-3 isn't actually easy to use for video work (auto-focus is terrible and it isn't very suitable for long 1 hour shoots). I was going to purchase a video camera but then I thought... I don't want the bulk of a video camera nor do I want to own an essentially single-purpose camera. What about a compaq P&S? They can capture decent video these days, correct?

My requirements or wish list:
  • Ability to shoot decent 1080p video for at least 1 hour. "Decent" meaning reasonably acceptable quality.
  • Must be compact (like the Canon Powershot SX720 HS).
  • 40x zoom or better.
  • The highest zoom setting must be of good quality.
  • Option for full manual control of shutter and aperture.

So far, the best I could find is the Canon Powershot SX720 HS? Ideally, I would like the capability of a longer lens but I think that is the best I'll find for a compact P&S.

Thank you.

I can use Fuzzy Select to find the colored areas I want. How do I then add a dark order to that region?

Right now, it just twinkles to show it is active...so how do I transition to actually use that region?

Thanks

I saw a video which had a long list of optional tools to be used in the Layers window, but I only see a few...

Layers

I have a Mac. Is that the difference?

Thanks.

I need to do a lot of parallel parking in really tight parking spaces in places like San Francisco.

Please provide me with a list of small cameras that I can have mounted to the back of my car (by the license plate) that will then broadcast (using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi) to an Android or iPhone so that I will be able to accurately determine and safely be able to backup my car.

One of a set of tools we are providing to everyone as a way of saying thank you for being a part of the community.

I would like to buy a selfie stick for my iPhone 6 if it let me take pictures in a different perspective, and not of myself.

Sometimes, I want to be a few feet taller.

Can it be used for this?

What is the longest one I could get?

Can it secure my phone safely?

Thanks

I would like the ability to come back that image and update any element which I add today. Does each event go in its own layer?

Or, is there another way to be able to edit, for example, a line? I may want to reduce the line width a month from now...

Thanks.

On the following advertisement, I see an item in the picture that does not appear in the list of items at the bottom of the page...

Any idea what it is?

See attached image...

Gadget
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-COOLPIX-P900-Digital-Camera-83x-Optical-Zoom-Wi-Fi-Black-32GB-Bundle-/322284062468?hash=item4b09a08704:g:gqYAAOSwBt5ZNv5w

ALSO, I have a question about the size of the memory card(s). I see this has two at 16GB each. I also see a refurbished camera with a single 64 GB card.

Can you give me some ice how fast a 16GB card would fit with this camera? Let's say, distant shots require me the max resolution and file size per pic.

How many would a 16BG card hold?

Thanks

I see how to use Gimp for Mac to draw a line, but it's to thick. I want 1 pixel.

I tried using the Brush editor with no luck.

What's the trick?

I have Gimp 2.8.22 (Mac)

Thanks

On one image.

How do I do this? I assume a new Layer would be smart, but can not get this to work.

They are different heights and will need slight adjustments to dimensions.

This one does not work...

I do not see the second image...

Thanks.

I am looking for the best flexibility for the money. I see it may cost upward of $600 to get a complete setup for the Nikon Coolpix P900.

What broader options to I have? It seems, multiple lenses would be useful. Like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CQJHJ2E/ref=s9_acsd_top_hd_bw_bCf6T_c_x_3_w?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-4&pf_rd_r=7Q91KRWBTPT978JNBWFR&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=87d2a035-5f2a-50a4-93d7-a2960559aa53&pf_rd_i=3017941

And if I were to buy a model that was state of the art 3 or 5 years ago, I wold expect to see more of them selling used on Ebay.

Suggestions?

Thanks

I tried the trick with a telescope and shooting into the eye piece from my cell phone camera and my Canon. This did not work for me at all. Also, the act of pushing the button to take the picture throws the image.

I think I need to pony up some cash and get a digital camera I can use to shoot buildings at about 3-4 miles. I do not need great detail, like if it is some kind of product shot, though.

I need an "all in one" solution. Maybe even with different lenses.

I  do not want to buy new, though. I am happy getting used equipment at a discount. Especially since the odd are higher I could get all the various accessories, like remote trigger and extra lens(es) at one price.

Please give me some idea of the camera I could consider. It should be a model that is a 2-5 years old, that may have been pricey in its day, but it behind the curve by today's top standards.

These are recreational pictures I will take for my interest in architecture, and not in any way professional, but maybe the camera would be a former professional grade some years ago.

Thanks..

I need to:

- add an image
- make changes to that image, like adding markers, lines, notes and labels

But I need to be able to move them and update them in subsequent sessions.

Obviously, the JPG (or other format) would be the format for output, but a Gimp file format must retain these object details in the file itself so they can be saved, then updated.

How do I do this with Gimp for Mac?

Modern healthcare requires a modern cloud. View this brief video to understand how the Concerto Cloud for Healthcare can help your organization.

I have a Mac and need a basic image editing tool, bot not as basic as PaintBrush.

I need to ad line and text and various elements, and have the ability to change them later. I find I cannot edit a "flat image file" because I am limited to undo, and can not save the file and edit it later.

Why options do I have? I want a quick learning curve and hope I do not need some expensive tool.

I know for $29/month I can get an online license to Adobe, which totals $360/year! But I may consider that service for a few months IF it has tools I can use.

Thanks.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to display the volume meter on the screen for my Vixia HF G20 GD CamCorder.

I am using a RODE Wireless mic... and it works...

Bt there are times we would like to see the screen "volume bar" on.

When I check eBay for:

4" aperture refractor telescope

I see interesting stuff, that is $150 or higher. But at the bottom I see prices around $60.

For example:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Astronomical-Refractor-Telescope-w-Phone-Mount-Adapter-Kids-Toy-Fast-Free-Ship-/172455991465?hash=item28272d98a9:g:TlgAAOSwA3dYKmzX

Can I photograph a building that's 3 miles away with this? Or is this for the star-gazing only?

Thanks.

I need a telescope which has a much longer focal length for shots that are 3 miles away. I need a digital camera, obviously.

What URL's could you point me to that would get me a camera that can do this, without breaking the bank?

eBay, Buy It Now can sometimes produce a good deal. And that's where I would look for a used camera...

Thanks

I happen to live in a hilly area and see some shots about 3 mile away that I wold like to make more clearly.

I recently bought a Canon 25X optical zoom SX620 HS

which is a pretty handy camera for closer shots and fits nicely into my pocket. I am happy with the camera but would be thrilled if I could get better detail on shots that are 2 to 3 miles away.

I have not played with any adjustments yet (out of fear) but are there settings that could make picture less granular?

Thanks.

I am looking for an outdoor security camera that can view an area remotely on a rural property. The area has excellent cell service on all major cell service providers, but no internet access. So I am looking for a single camera system that can be mounted on a light pole and stream video through a major cell provider like AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, & T-Mobile. This is my main requirement to answer this question.

Optionally, the camera would be able to:
  • Take time laps images
  • Move PTO and Zoom
  • Saves data for later use
  • Operate on solar power
If any of these features are included in the answer, it would be a better answer.

I realize that I can MacGyver a few systems together to make a solution, such as using a WIFI security camera with a WIFI LTE HotSpot device, but I am hoping to find an all-in-one solution that will reduce complexity and the chance of a disconnection/support.
