Digital Cameras / Camcorders

A digital camera or digicam is a camera that encodes digital images and videos digitally and stores them for later reproduction. Most cameras sold today are digital, and digital cameras are incorporated into many devices ranging from PDAs and mobile phones (called camera phones) to vehicles. Digital and film cameras share an optical system, typically using a lens with a variable diaphragm to focus light onto an image pickup device.  Digital cameras can display images on a screen immediately after being recorded, and store and delete images from memory. Many digital cameras can also record moving videos with sound. Some digital cameras can crop and stitch pictures and perform other elementary image editing.

Storytelling through Photography
I designed this idea while studying technology in the classroom.  This is a semester long project.  Students are asked to take photographs on a specific topic which they find meaningful, it can be a place or situation such as travel or homelessness.  Students are then meant to compile their images together and give a presentation at the end of the class of their images and reasoning behind choosing there subject.  Strong technology skills are required as this project requires use of camera, computer and editing software.  Students will need to be guided through the steps of taking images, importing images and creating a presentation of there images throughout the entire semester.
1.  Photograph Images (could be taken from DSLR, camera or even just phone camera)
2.  Upload images to Computer
3.  Create a presentation (current video used iMovie)
4.  Add voice over to presentation
5.  Students present their projects to the class with explanation on the chosen topic

Each step should be gone over and taught in class to give students the opportunity to do the same with their own presentations.
